Having worked as a critical care RN, I have seen patients grouped unfairly into those who have a “legitimate” medical condition and those whose problems are just “psychosomatic”. Once a patient has been put into this latter group, it is almost impossible to shake that label. They are presumed by the medical establishment to be “head cases”. It seems that if the doctors cannot find the source of the illness, then it MUST be psychosomatic, a practice that has damned so many patients into lives of pain and suffering. The doctors, of course, cannot simply admit that they don’t know…that would undermine their gigantic egos! (I know that’s a generalization that I probably should not make, but it often rings true!) Sorry if that chip on my shoulder is showing! I’ve been through some things too, although nowhere as bad as your uncle’s situation. In fact, that might be a good subject for another article… Again, so sorry for the loss of your uncle. Keep drinking fluids and stay hydrated. One of the strangest stories you have posted for us today is the one about the terrible threats to scientists who study chronic fatigue syndrome. These angry folks definitely need to take a chill pill for their ailments! I think it bizarre that they would actually call for physical violence against the very people who are working to find a cause and a cure for this debilitating disease. As usual, I am late…time zone problems. Tomasky’s article was hard-hitting, and in many ways, he is correct. But I believe he overlooked possibly the main reason that the President is holding off on the Constitutional option…he doesn’t want to play his cards now, still trying to force the Congress to do its job. Jay Carney reiterated this in his press conference just an hour ago stating that it was the Congress’ responsibility to raise the debt ceiling. If the rethugs thought that he was actually considering using the 14th, there would be little reason for them to move at all. I don’t think that he is as naive as Tomasky would have us believe. He is, after all, a superb strategist and has managed to put John Boehner into a box that he cannot escape, plus the fact is that the President is winning the message war with the people. There have been varying opinions on the legal aspects of this with pundits and lawyers on both sides. But the point remains that the President would be acting in the best interests of the American people AND American business in preventing default. I don’t see how the SCOTUS would rule against him, not without showing their extreme bias towards a Democratic president. I think it’s a toss-up on how they actually would rule. At least, it would give us some time. Law suits can take forever. Maybe I am looking at this too simplistically but I think the President will wait until the very last minute. He must realize the extreme threat to our country and act unilaterally.
