He has been the biggest disappointment in the Administration. He has continually come out and announced the appointment of some “Special Prosecutor” for this and that…then NOTHING is ever heard about it again. That was the situation with the CIA torture tapes. He was supposedly investigating it. Much later, it was discreetly announced that NO prosecutions would be done. That was it! A tiny little notice on Page 12, buried in the adverts! That really frosted me! And concerning the Wisconsin voter ID thing, of course this is a poll tax! They were trying to hide the fact that they were required to furnish those ID’s FREE of charge, IF you could find a DMV office open. Some counties had NO DMV office available at all. Anyone with ANY common sense would know that this has to be illegal! Where are the courts??? January and the recall of Gov. The story is being reported that an email was discovered telling employees of the DMV in Wisconsin NOT to tell people that a FREE picture ID was available unless they asked for it!!! Very damning! An employee took the issue into his own hands and sent out his own email, telling everyone to publicize that the ID’s were available free of charge…two hours later, he was fired!! BTW, the charge for the ID’s was $28, an amount that lots of people could not afford! Surely, the courts will step in here! This is criminal! They are not even trying to cover up that they are attempting to suppress the vote. The repubs are aware and are doing everything they can. I am encouraged that some states are trying to stop this. I don’t live in a “neighborhood” but in a rural area of the mountains. But the closest town is only 12 miles away with an Obama/Democratic Party office and pretty good organization. We also have a fairly large university (Appalachian State U.) where I am hoping we can do a vigorous voter registration drive. To my knowledge, NC has not passed any draconian voter ID laws yet, although we do have a repub controlled State legislature. I would not put it past them to try. I’m hoping to be a part of whatever activities are planned. Last election, I made phone calls for the President. It was really interesting to talk with such conservative people. Most of them were nice and did not mind talking about the issues, but there were several that were just not very receptive at all! Dick Durbin was just on MSNBC and he said there were going to be hearings on the subject…tomorrow, I think. I just heard the end of the interview. He did mention Wisconsin, Michigan and Florida…sound familiar?? He talked about Wisconsin closing the DMV offices among other things. I don’t know whether to be happy or not…the best way to kill off something in Washington is to hold hearings. Then nothing ever happens. I tried to go back and find it but was unable to lay hands on it. Anyway, it showed the result that only 0.3% of layoffs were the result of regulations! This completely blows a big hole in the repub’s talking point that excessive regulation is a “job killer”! Lack of demand was the overwhelming winner. Financial concerns came in second.
