Last year, Art Pope, a wealthy financier of right-wing causes and board member of the Koch Brothers’ Americans for Prosperity front group, spent heavily in Wake County schools elections in order to elect board members who would end the district’s racial integration program. The amounts outlined as part of the Recovery Act and the Health Care Act are “peanuts” when you look at the percentage of our total budget. We’re not talking about spending huge sums of money here! It’s obvious that there is a tremendous return on those dollars when you look at the long-term results. I simply cannot figure out the republicans. What is wrong with these people? Is there NOTHING worth spending the taxpayers’ dollars for in terms of helping the people? The President said it well…these children in Head Start are much more likely to have less problems in school and much more likely to graduate from high school.
