Javaz. thank you for sharing your feelings here with us. I know there can be no healing for the pain you have endured over this loss.

We must all learn that NOTHING is permanent in this world. We cling to impermanent things to give ourselves some sense of stability, but in the end, we lose everything. It is hard to let go, but we must. I believe you have come to terms with this loss, but you cannot allow others less “evolved” than you are spiritually to take away what comfort you take from your beliefs. That only hinders your spiritual growth, which IMO is the reason that we are all here.

I do agree with you about the direction our society is going in now. It seems to be off the rails and no one has a good idea on how to fix it. I would call it the loss of our “soul”. We are so absorbed in things that are impermanent and meaningless. It is sad to see a people with so much potential go down this road.

But take courage and solace in this…not ALL of us have lost our way! (At least I hope I haven’t!) I find so many wonderful spiritual people here at PPOV, people who support me and are true friends though I’ve never met any of them. Not religious like the faux Christians that you mention, but spiritual…there’s a huge difference! I count you among those friends! 🙂

Adlib, thank you so much for writing this piece. I concur with all you said here. It occurs to me that this rush to kill by the state is based on our Old Testament thirst for vengeance. The old “eye for an eye” rule. It’s not punishment…it’s revenge, pure and simple. These “laws” from the Old Testament were written several thousand years ago by people who scarcely had the wheel. Have we not evolved beyond that?

In my opinion, punishment for some horrendous crime like murder should be life in prison without parole. I personally cannot imagine anything worse than losing my freedom for the rest of my life. I think I would rather be dead.

The homicide rate in the United States still is among the highest of the industrialized nations. I can find no evidence that the death penalty is actually a deterrent. Angry and irrational people with guns will not stop to think about whether they will receive the death penalty before pulling the trigger!

I hope that we as a nation will abolish this barbaric practice. With the people behind a movement to abolish, it would take very little action by the Supreme Court to do so but I am not holding my breath to see it, not with this group of justices and the prevailing attitudes about capital punishment.

Kes, it’s mind-boggling! When you look at this through the lens of the Dominionists and their sick agenda, it’s not so hard to imagine all the women in burqas! After all, we don’t want to inflame men or give them impure thoughts when they see our hair! 🙂

The contraception part, to me, is the most puzzling. It makes sense that using contraception would DECREASE the need for abortions. I do think this misses the point, though. They are going after the “morning after” pill. If they consider a fertilized egg, even if it’s only a few hours past its fertilization, a human being with all rights, then using the “morning after” pill would be murder. This is so ridiculous I don’t even believe we are having this discussion.

I’m glad you had a chance to read this. When I came across the information, I was stunned at just how far this has come. I don’t know any other way of making people sit up and take notice than to continue to write about it. I just wish that we had a larger audience. The article is lengthy and I appreciate your taking the time to read it.

KT, thanks for your comment. You are so right! It has not been that many years since the “back-alley” and the quack doctors were all the remedies there were. I can’t understand what these fruitcakes are trying to do. I understand their moral objections to abortion itself, but I don’t understand why they want to ban contraception! This makes no sense whatsoever and will only result in MORE unwanted pregnancies.

The ballot initiative in Mississippi is completely nuts. With the poverty and number of out-of-wedlock children born there, you would think they would want MORE contraception. I believe their big beef is with the “morning after” pill, but they are grouping a lot of contraception together with it. As I said before, keep ’em ignorant, barefoot, and pregnant!

Haruko, thank you! This is something that I am upset by too. There is no question that it is a concerted effort all over the country.

I am sorry that the article was so long, but there was a lot of information to share. And to my point about elections, it DOES make a difference who you vote for! I’ve heard so many people with an apathetic attitude about it…oh, they’re all the same! Well, No they’re NOT all the same. The repubs are doing everything in their power to overturn Roe v. Wade. It’s as plain as the nose on your face!

Thanks so much for wading through this. I just hope that in the next election, we Dems can take back the House and hold the Senate. Otherwise, we are so screwed!

Adlib, I see your point, but I am really afraid that if THIS court gets their hands on it, we can kiss abortion rights goodbye for many years. I believe this is one of the reasons that abortion providers have not pushed the issue in places like Kansas. We could really lose it all.

The women I know have sworn never to go back to the days of back-alley abortions and coat hangars, but we may have no choice if Roberts and Scalia have anything to do with it.

Thanks KT! I agree! It makes no sense at all, but this is what they want to do. And the scary part is that they are making progress by getting their people elected to local and state positions where they can have some influence.

There is another ballot issue that I did not mention, one in Mississippi to ban all abortion and CONTRACEPTION! This is completely insane! And with the percentage of holy-roller Christians in that state (about 80%), it will probably pass. This is not just the evangelical wing of the repub party, but is tied in very neatly with the Dominionist agenda. I’m telling you…these people are very, very dangerous!

By all means, keep ’em ignorant, barefoot and pregnant! Exactly the kind of thing you would expect in Mississippi!

16. Repeal of the Health Care Act (Throwing millions back into the “uninsured” numbers)

17. Repeal of Consumer Protections (Allowing banks to charge outrageous credit card and loan fees)

18. Defunding of Pell Grants (Ending college affordability for millions of students)

19. Destruction of Department of Education (Just when we are slipping lower in competition with the rest of the world)

20. Destruction of FEMA (Jeb Bush already has a plan to privatize disaster recovery)

21. Repeal of Equal Pay laws, Minimum wage Laws, and Child Labor Laws

I don’t know all that President Obama hopes to accomplish during his second term, but I see our focus right now as fighting to preserve those gains we have made. We cannot afford to lose both Houses of Congress and have the laws repealed that have been fought for so hard by progressives.

To say that there is no difference between President Obama and Romney is admitting blindness, even more so when Perry is included in the comparison. All it takes to see the difference is to list the accomplishments of this President and the agenda he is pushing to help get this economy up and moving, no small task with the Repub Obstructionist House and with the enormous hole left to him by George W. Bush! I hope that our comments have opened some eyes!
