Bito, thanks so much for re-posting this. I had forgotten just how powerful that statement is! We would do well to watch it often just to remind ourselves of what the 99% is fighting for!

Sally, πŸ™‚

You are smart and I definitely include you among our very intelligent friends here! Now, about that big butt…. I resemble that remark!

Hi Sally! I hear you! I used to be a fan of Dr. West when he made appearances on Bill Maher’s show. He seemed to be so interesting and I thought that it would be a real trip to take a course under him.

But in the last six months or so, he has taken to bashing the President every time he opens his mouth. I know I was not the only one to take issue with him over this. West seemed to join in with the “professional left” to criticize and snipe at PBO every time he had an open mic. Some of his criticisms were so petty. I almost would think he was jealous of another black man who has long since surpassed anything West could ever be!

I admit to being totally in the President’s corner. I may not necessarily like the way he negotiates on a particular issue, but as I said, he is still our brightest and best. I know that his heart is right…and there’s no question that he is one of the most brilliant men in politics today. I trust him completely.

West, OTOH, runs his mouth ad nauseum! I don’t like his implications at all. I would have expected him to support the first AA president, but instead, he tears him down. Thankfully, he has been a little quieter in the past several weeks. Maybe he has heard that some of us out here don’t like what he’s been saying. I agree with you…West needs to just sit on the steps and be quiet!

Hi Kenn! Welcome to the Planet! And thanks for your post.

You will definitely find friends here among our ranks…and some very, very smart people with some really good writing!

You have hit a number of points that are near and dear to my heart, first the corruption of lobbying money in our Congress! IMO, we must concentrate on getting that dirty money out of our politics or we will eventually have no democracy left at all!

Kudos to you for your activism! Wish I could be there with you, but it’s a long trip from where I live. I have signed the petition to amend and have passed it along to my friends.

One word about Dr. Cornell West…don’t believe everything you read or see. I have a big bone to pick with him over his bashing of the President at every opportunity. While I may not agree with the President on every issue, I believe that he is still our best and brightest hope to make the changes that we so badly need. I would, if given the opportunity, ask Dr. West if he would rather see a “President Cain” or “President Perry”!! I can’t imagine anything worse for the country. By his constant and self-serving criticism of President Obama, West only hurts our cause.

By all means, keep up the good work! I’m on your side! πŸ™‚

And please, be careful out there! It can be very dangerous!

Hi Nirek! Just stay and hang out with us here at PPOV! We’re so glad to have you! πŸ™‚

Bito, I think the TP’s are really from another planet. What a disgusting bunch of ignorant bastards!

» Posted By Emerald1943 On November 8, 2011 @ 2:04 pm

Bito, beautiful…wheelchairs and all! I love it! πŸ™‚

» Posted By Emerald1943 On November 8, 2011 @ 1:38 pm

Hi Nirek!

Join the party! I’m in the same boat! I don’t have a single piece of plastic! And I can say that I sleep really well at night!

I don’t have much, but everything I have is paid for…in full! I consider myself so lucky!

KT, WOW! This is terrific! I agree that everyone should read it!

“It is unfortunate, but an unavoidable conclusion that yesterday’s republics have on a grand scale violated their purpose and made the transition from representatives of the people towards criminal slave enterprise which holds the people in bondage, extracting value and joy from them, forever unhappy with their current holdings. The organs and systems which we the people devised not long ago to serve and represent us have been hijacked by a select few individuals, making the commoner irrelevant despite numerous legal guarantees and protections against this.”

Very moving!

Adlib, that is a great line-up! Wish I could be there, but it’s just a little bit too far from North Carolina!

I’m glad to see them pushing the Citizens United issue. IMO, that’s a perfect place to start the changes! I hope that we will be able to see some of the speakers online.

Hi Nirek! You are so lucky to live in Vermont on a couple of counts! You are spot on about Bernie! He’s great! But the other reason is that Vermont is one of the prettiest places I’ve ever been!

I was fortunate enough to go there to ski some years ago, and I will never forget it! Absolutely wonderful!

As for your suggestions, $20 might be a little low. Perhaps $100/person or corporation might be a little better…but NO MORE than that! Public financing of all elections would be the best bet to eliminate all conflicts of interest. I definitely like the idea of NO TV ads! I think everybody gets sick of them way before the elections. They have gotten to be so ugly and destructive. I also think that if the ads deliberately use false information, they should be called out and fined!

There is a petition going around now from a group called “Move to Amend”, calling for a Constitutional amendment to overturn the Citizens United ruling by SCOTUS. I posted about them in a comment above on this thread. You might want to check them out.

Occupy the Courts!

http://movetoamend.org/occupythecourts

I just received this in an email from the “Move to Amend” folks. They are planning “Occupy the Courts” to be held at Federal courthouses all over the country on January 20, 2012.

FYI…

Hi WW! Glad to see you here!

This is brilliant! Count me in! I must receive 10-15 of these damned things every week at my shop. From now on, they’re going right back from whence they came!

Maybe we should include some “post-it” note sized messages like “We are the 99%” and other slogans just to p*ss them off!

Thanks for posting this!

Hi Nirek!

You are 100% correct! We are supposed to have representation but we haven’t had any for a very long time. Our system is broken. I can only hope that it’s not too late to fix what ails us.

I would love to have a Senator or Congressman to do nice stuff for me, but unfortunately, I CAN’T AFFORD ONE! πŸ™

» Posted By Emerald1943 On November 3, 2011 @ 6:58 pm

Hi Murph! I was trying to respond to you earlier when my computer got another one of those corrupted cookies that I could not remove. It prevented me from getting on PPOV! Oh the horror!! I think it’s fixed now…thank goodness!

I was hoping that the Oakland strike would be some kind of indicator. I’m not sure of the numbers but one TV report said as many as 10,000 people turned out. For a city the size of Oakland, I would say that’s pretty good, especially on a weekday. I was also glad to see that they were able to effectively close down the port! Impressive! And all of this with minimal problems or arrests.

One other thought…there must be lots of folks who cannot stay throughout the Occupy thing. Work and family responsibilities would prevent many from participating. However, a one or two-day event might pull a big crowd if it’s scheduled on a weekend.

Thanks for your update! If I can help you in any way, please let me know! I am not necessarily able to attend protests, so this is my little way of contributing. πŸ™‚

» Posted By Emerald1943 On November 3, 2011 @ 4:53 pm

KT, exactly! Sue posted earlier about somebody using a quote from Lenin. She was worried about how that would be taken. I would imagine that few noticed it with all the other signs and banners. But you are right…they need to watch how they say things. It just gives the MSM another excuse to ridicule.

» Posted By Emerald1943 On November 2, 2011 @ 3:51 pm

KT, some of these guys don’t have very good marketing skills! πŸ™‚ A good PR person would be helpful, no doubt!

» Posted By Emerald1943 On November 2, 2011 @ 3:42 pm

Bito, I read it in the “chat” on the ABC live feed. People were tweeting about it. We will probably see more later if I know the MSM…if it bleeds, etc., etc. You know how this works!

» Posted By Emerald1943 On November 2, 2011 @ 3:40 pm

Hey Murph! I am excited by the strike in Oakland! Looks like it was a rousing success with lots of people turning out. This makes me think that a national strike on Washington DC would work! Have you been in touch with your friends who are working on plans to sustain the movement? I am anxious to know what they think of the idea.

BTW, I really like this Bill of Rights poster! There needs to be thousands of copies all over this country!

» Posted By Emerald1943 On November 2, 2011 @ 3:38 pm

Bito, some in the crowd suspect undercover police.

» Posted By Emerald1943 On November 2, 2011 @ 3:32 pm

Thanks, adlib. It looked like there was a group of guys doing some window breaking. Some in the crowd were trying to stop them. It’s hard to get much detail.

» Posted By Emerald1943 On November 2, 2011 @ 3:21 pm

Adlib, wow! I’d call this a big success! Thanks for posting the pictures. There’s been nothing on TV.

» Posted By Emerald1943 On November 2, 2011 @ 2:30 pm

Sue, just be safe! We don’t need for you to get your head bashed in by a tear gas canister! God forbid! I just don’t trust the OPD after what they did. I’m sure they are all tense and ready for trouble!

» Posted By Emerald1943 On November 2, 2011 @ 1:51 pm

Sue, Okay! I was just worried about you! With the Oakland police department, you don’t know what they’ll do. They have a terrible record of abuse!

» Posted By Emerald1943 On November 2, 2011 @ 1:05 pm

Sue, that’s great news! Please be careful!

» Posted By Emerald1943 On November 2, 2011 @ 12:49 pm

Kes, great! πŸ™‚ Love the music!

» Posted By Emerald1943 On October 29, 2011 @ 8:24 am

Cher, sorry for catching up on comments so early this morning. You are absolutely right! We have NO news! They have to have time to put Paul Ryan on to blast the President about “class warfare” and dividing the country! What an asshat!

What is wrong with these people?????!!! I am so sick of it!

For the most part, the ‘news’ is a big joke!

» Posted By Emerald1943 On October 27, 2011 @ 5:09 am

Khirad, Taibbi makes a very good point. When the TBTF banks can “borrow” money at ZERO percent and loan it back to the government at market rates, how can they fail to make a killing…and at the taxpayers’ expense?

It’s way past time for these banks to be broken up and placed under strict laws to prevent them from doing what they have done again. But we all know how that argument is going to go in Congress!

» Posted By Emerald1943 On October 27, 2011 @ 4:44 am

Good morning, Khirad!

This is great! Thanks for posting! And Washington just can’t figure out why the people are protesting in the streets!
