We had an enormous pecan tree in our backyard and she would send me out back to collect the pecans. I was about 8 – 10 years old. Then while she was watching Lawrence Welk (Ha!), she would sit and shell the pecans. A great childhood memory and terrific cookies! Interestingly, I now live underneath TWO enormous pecan trees. I’ve never really taken the time to collect the pecans, leaving them instead for what can only be described as a herd of squirrels.
