I once worked with a gentleman whose daughter had been raped and killed by a extreme drug user in the St. Louis area. This man felt the loss of his daughter, but could not bring himself to want to come back to St. Louis and watch the trial for the “pleasure” of it as some of his relatives wanted him to. He realized that in the end the reality was that his loss was permanent, and attending the trial would bring him no “closure”. Instead, he found closure within himself.

He was a far finer individual than I think I could be, and I deeply respect him for that.

OK, that explains my confusion, but I did think most of the Indian art I’d seen also portrayed him as lean.

Is it a cultural thing in various sections of Asia? I’d like to know.

Even in the event of those we know are guilty with absolute proof, and not just the lack of reasonable doubt, I do not feel that publically condoned execution serves any purpose beyond revenge. I personally feel that if you know you are stuck in an 8 x 10 cell the rest of your life you will probably be punished far more than if you are killed. I say this even regarding Charlie Manson, one of the great evil men in later day America. And for those whose convictions were questionable, we can never turn back the clock once they are gone. Revenge is a really bad motive.

Now for the gory part. Executions only serve as a detriment to crime when they are seen. When in the wild west the bad guy was hung in the town square and even little six year old Johnny watched, he walked away with the lesson that what the bad man did was not good, especially with this ending. Unfortunately with today’s society and the glorification of gore, there would be far too many people coming just for the excitement and spectacle. Either way, not good.

KQ: I think you have the classic confusion on Buddha vs Confusius. Confusius was the fat fellow, the Buddha is almost always portrayed as lean. And he had elongated earlobes.

Sounds like that lawsuit was ‘nipped’ in the ‘bud’ with this revelation.

Now I can’t put my finger on it, but I’m willing to bet she transfers from that Christian College in San Diego next semester. Even they won’t cut her any slack now.

Bito, has the performance improved as of late? I know the President has been pushing hard for getting things right at the VA. My contacts who use the Bob Dole VA Center say they’ve seen a difference.

Did she praise Jesus in this flick? Was there a halo over her head? Were her hooters the standout of the scenes? Inquiring minds want to know.

Kalima, yes, Jesus was always a Jew. Even upon the cross (if the mythology holds true). Nowhere did he declare himself a Christian or set up a new church, contrary to how the fundamentalists portray him.

He didn’t tell Peter to set up a new Church upon that rock. God, I love fundies!

KK. Be yourself. Conformity sucks. You put in at least 2 years in the ultimate conformity factory which I wouldn’t have survived, and I’m sure you had your fill.

One of the reasons I dropped from the liberal forefront for so long was the expectation of conforming to their given ideals, not following my own beliefs.

Or, we could all just be imaginative figments of some greater beings thoughts, and only exist in the ether. Whether it is incoming or outgoing, we have to have a belief in something, whether it is pure spiritual, pure science, or a combination of the two in order for us to make some sense of this world.

KQ, I find it interesting how man thinks he can define the roles and rules by which something that is so greater than he himself is. We “dictate” to GOD what he is and how he shall behave. That is so arrogant. Frankly, if the devine exists, I figure we are all going to be suprised on the day we get to meet it, if we are so lucky enough to do so.

I still hope he looks like a classic Chinese Confusius statue, the one with the clock in the belly. That should freak all the religious right wingers out extremely fast. And all I ask is to be allowed to watch and laugh.

It’s not just the Catholic church, but so much of the religous right who holds these views. And yet they would allow for, maybe even demand, inter-uterine surgeries in order to save the unborn child. If the right want to talk about healthcare costs rising, they need to find out how much our advances on neo-natal care have added to the costs of healthcare. Oh, but that is different…. BS.

I love the desert. I like heat. It used to be I’m the guy who would be doing yard work in the middle of the summer afternoon after all the hispanic laborers had decided it was too hot to work. Sort of a mad dogs and Englishmen type of thing.

I don’t look forward to the “cold” in January. Hate it when the Bougainvillea gets frosted and turns black. Let alone the other “sensitive” desert plants.
