Beats me! The fact is of course, it’s not really personalized anymore than is any e-card. Just kinda cute, and admittedly, an impressive amount of work to key in every one of those millions of names. I was just struck be the fact that they realized it was necessary.

So I just looked at my email and lo and behold– there is a new message from Organizing For America, Obama’s campaign organization. There is a brief message asking me to PLEASE watch a video “just for you!”

My first reaction was that I’m not watching another damn video, but I am going to reply with a few choice words! But before I did, whatever, I watched.

Well, it’s a cleaver video, all these people across the country holding up signs with my real name, my name in lights on the side of buildings, on the side of a barn, trailing an airplane, etc. People thanking me for my hard work, wishing me Happy Holidays. Then at the end, Barack Obama looks into the camera, and wishes me Seasons greetings, sits at a desk and signs a card addressed to ME.

My husband was watching me, and said my face was hilarious– first angry, cynical, then surprised and finally, smiling. OK, I am a known sap.

The cynical me says, “Sure, throw the base a cheap bone, after disappointing them so often.”

The real me? Says, “Gee, they ARE worried about losing us.”

BTW, this was one of many emails I get from the White House daily! Trust me, I’m not a big donor.

Why would anyone do that to you? Seriously. You honestly have a right to your feelings. We’re not “over there” anymore, no trolls to make me defensive and mean. :~))

Oh, you’ve hit the nail on the head there. And to mix metaphors, it’s a sore spot. I believe that the backlash against Obama from the Left has a lot to do with hopes dashed almost as much as with policy. At least, the feelings are stronger than they would be on policy alone.

We were on such a high! And we were so pent up after 8 horrible, disgusting years, we were like starving people, gorging on the hope Obama stood for. Now, the sugar high is over and we’ve crashed and are seriously pissed.

I see an inordinate ire with him because “Hell hath no fury like a (voter) scorned.”

But to be clear, I’m upset with the actual policies too. I just resigned to more incrementalism.

I’m sorry, Nellie, I didn’t mean to say YOU are dismissive. Please let me explain: What I meant to say is, that I feel as you do, and feeling that way makes ME impatient with those who are ready to write Obama off. I have called them childish. I have argued with them disrespectfully.

Then I came to realize that they have their point of view and that if I dismiss them, I have no chance to reason with the— That I shut off dialogue. I know you don’t do that, but many do. I am looking for another way, that’s all.

I know, Nellie. But I sense a serious case of demoralization among far too many, and worry about it in 2010. I think it’s important to understand where they are coming from. It really doesn’t help to dismiss them.

LITU, I really hear what you are saying– especially about Clinton and the mainstream Dems– they are hardly Liberal and rarely even what we used to call “Democrats.” Remember Hubert Humphrey, Walter Mondale, Adlai Stevenson? Those guys would be seen as radicals today! And yes, this country is more Right than many of us can bear to acknowledge.

But I must take strong exception to your characterization that Dems are the same as Republicans. You see, I am unhappy with my Party, but to be frank, I HATE the Reich-wing. And if you believe, as I do, that the Dems have moved Right, then you must also see how far Right the Republicans have become. They are now actually John Birchers. Prayer meetings to ask god to stop health care reform? Really? I didn’t see any Dems doing that. Homophobia, hatred of minorities and immigrants– those are practically part of the Republican platform. Not the Dem platform.

If you are outraged about Afghanistan, I bet you’d go nuclear about 100 years there and Iran next. And are both Parties in the pockets of corporations– yes. But what financial reform could you expect from the Right? We are not doing nearly enough there– it is my biggest complaint, but at least I see Democrats who believe reform is essential, not detrimental, as do the Repubs.

To sum it up, I honestly do not understand how you cannot see the difference between President Palin and any Dem President. If that seems incendiary, I’ll amend that to President Pawlenty, or President Huckabee vs any Dem President. The differences seem obvious to me. Aside from all I’ve mentioned, the Democrats are not Christo-Fascists. The Republicans are purging all who are not.

That story makes me weep in frustration with our country! I have only one biological child– he is the most important person to me. I have told him I’d like him to consider leaving the US for Western Europe/Canada –someplace with humanity. I mean it. He should leave this backward place for somewhere where his life will be better.

It’s a sad irony. My grandparents endured severe hardships to get here from Poland and Tsarist Russia, where they would have perished. Now, the second generation advocates returning, if not to those places, to the Old Country.

The expression “beneath contempt” fits them perfectly. They really are beneath my contempt, but the Blue Dog Dems are not. I just wish the rest of the country sees what they are doing and punishes them at the polls.

You know what? Abortion aside for a moment– and I mean JUST for the moment– what Nelson did for his state…Is it really so terrible? That’s what Senators do: Work for their state. In CA, Medicaid is broke.NO FUNDS! Maybe DiFi and Boxer need to hold the country hostage too. Look, I’m only being partly serious. But if Nelson and Landrieu can do it, what’s to stop every Senator?
