Let’s talk NFL and health care

Not for nothing, why the heck are citizens paying for stadiums to be built for these teams, I could never figure that one out.

Tax revenue? Which the city would not likely seen for at least 3-5yrs sometimes longer, because the hosting city usually along with the stadium, gives the owners tax breaks as an additional incentive to move there.

Really, how exactly does this benefit us, who really makes out here, the citizens or the team owners?

Kindle review

Thanks for the link to elandscape.com, never used that site. My vendor catalogues are like my bibles, use them more than anything else, plus it tells me what they are stocking.

We decided last night to just put up wreaths on the three doors that we have. I used to decorate the outside of our house quite extensively, real New England with the natural pine roping and lights. Filled every window box and the big urns with natural greens and berries. Just can’t afford it this year.

Inside we’re just going to do the real tree, no roping down the staircase or greens on the mantle. Keeping it simple and cheap.

We’re also bagging the usual family dinner on X-mas eve, hubby and I are just not into it this year.

Well got to get to work, wasted this morning once again, talk to you later.

Morning Monk, how’s everything going. Yes, even though I have my fancy autocadd software that spews out pretty pictures for my non-conceptual clients, I still draw every design on 1/4″ scale graph paper.

Still can’t move myself away from my books, in my office, the old sun room in the house, we closed up one of the three walls of windows just so I could have a custom book case built in for all my garden reference books. I try to look plants up on-line but I never really get what I want faster than what I have on my shelves!

Good for you! I’ll have to think about it, when my eyes start to get really bad, I will definitely have to switch over….can’t go to sleep without reading at night.

» Posted By BigDogMom On December 7, 2009 @ 7:16 am

Afternoon or Evening(?) Kalima, how are you? I tried reading with my girlfriends and just couldn’t get comfortable with it, you can see the print much better than reading a conventional book.

But I’m not quite sold on it yet, my eyes are still OK, though I do need to get new reading glasses, for someone like yourself it might work.

I just ordered 10 paperbacks from Barnes and Nobles, almost all of them had kindle downloads, two of the books where written in the 40’s and just re-released, so this may be the future of books.

» Posted By BigDogMom On December 7, 2009 @ 7:14 am

Thanks, Emerald for your post, my girlfriend swears by her Kindle, not sure if I could switch over, love holding a book too much.

The only thing that I don’t like about this thing, is the coldness of the contraption, I’m sure, like you wrote in your post, it has it’s good points. But, to me there is nothing like curling up in bed with a good book and I love being physically surrounded by them. Can’t see myself hugging my Kindle.

Unfortunately for me, this may be the wave of the future, but I’m going to hold out as long as I can!!!

So many books, so little time.

Rashomon: Twelve views of President Obama’s visit to Capitol Hill

Nah, not really. Just swung over there, some guy got arrested at the Mall of America for throwing tomatoes at Sarah Palin. The idiot missed and hit the cop standing near her.

The left and right are having fun with this…some of the posts are pretty funny!

Lawd, I could go on and on….this morning I had to rush the younger one to the Vets, a small stick was caught in his upper palette and I couldn’t get it out, took two to hold him down and the Vet with some kind of pliers to remove it…dogs fine now, silly thing was smiling after it was removed, but Moms not smiling after the $100 bill!

The Chat Continues…

LOL…don’t make fun of mustard on a hamburger, that’s what I use, less calories.

Besides, only the little people and uninformed use ketchup on their hamburgers!

Night, and thanks again.

Not as bad as they said it would be, just blew all night, not much rain.

My sister has her knees drained every once and awhile, very painful for her, but then seems to recover after a day or so.

I see the pain etched in her face these past few years, I know it must be awfully painful…so I feel you, because I see what it has done to my sister and my late Father.

Take care. I’ll speak to you soon.

How’s your RA in the damp weather? Bothers my sister, her knee’s swell terribly.

We are supposed to have snow here this weekend, not much, only 2-3″. Can’t wait for the ground to freeze up, it a mud pit in my gardens for the boys to romp through.

Good day Kalima, how are you and your furry friends?

I have a young pup laying next to me in my office snoring his head off and running in his sleep! What a happy camper he is…

» Posted By BigDogMom On December 4, 2009 @ 9:27 pm

Night nellie…sweet dreams to you too.

If anyone in the media even asked them a question regarding policy or experience, both would claim that the ‘elitist’ leftist media was picking on them…

But then again, the media is making a lot of money reporting on these two, so they may tread lightly.

Thanks for talking me down, he just seems to be getting more and more exposure…even on my local new station their picking up some of his stories.

Let’s hope you and kesmarn are right…

» Posted By BigDogMom On December 4, 2009 @ 9:20 pm

Night kernsman, sleep well.

» Posted By BigDogMom On December 4, 2009 @ 9:06 pm

There are several meanings that people apply to elitism…educational, which the GOP have demonized; social, which would be the American Aristocracy, the top 1 or 2% wealthy of our Nation; or as you have used it, an “elite squad”, meaning someone or group that really knows what they are doing.

Like nellie says, it is how it is used in context to the subject matter.

Thanks AdLib, I’m glad I stayed awake for this one…now there is no way I can go to sleep!

What is everyone’s feelings on what Beck is up to, do you think he’s making a play, like Dobbs for some political office?

This man scares the hell out of me, more than Palin does. He know how to manipulate the masses the same way Hilter did. He plays to peoples fears and emotions.

He’s up to something, I just don’t know what….

» Posted By BigDogMom On December 4, 2009 @ 8:51 pm

That was very fast and furious, but fun.

The power of the written word

Pepe, what a wonderful story, there is nothing more sweet than to see a child curled up with a book.

My fondest family memories as a child was on Sunday late afternoon in the winter, everyone in our family went to their respective corners with a book, Mom on the couch with the cat curled up beside her. Dad in “his chair”, reading about some long forgotten historical event with one of the many dogs we had at his feet.

My big sister whom I called, still do to this day, “Sisser”, because I couldn’t pronounce her name as a child, on her bed and me in mine…I could remember saying to myself one day, this is what bliss is, true joy.

And I don’t know if any of you do this in your families, but we give books for presents, these, as child and as a adult now, mean far more to me than any bobble or bangle.

I still read every Sunday afternoon in the winter, me in my bed with one dog on the floor and one on the bed beside me….to me this is true bliss…you can keep your chocolate, give me a book every time!
