There are going to be a number of legal challenges to this bill. It will not be implemented right away. There’s the near-term challenge of how the bill got passed tonight. It was done in a way that may have violated open meetings laws, by not allowing 24 hours notice for a public meeting of the conference committee. There are other statutes about collective bargaining that may be brought up in court and fought. And there’s the issue of the bill having a fiscal impact. Scott Walker spent three weeks claiming that collective bargaining was a fiscal issue, and then the legislature just passed the bill as “non-fiscal.” Courts will have to wade through a lot of this, and it’s sure to go up to the state Supreme Court. Which brings us to… • Supreme Court fight. The matchup between David Prosser (R) and JoAnn Kloppenberg (D) for the state Supreme Court on April 5 just got very interesting. It’s a statewide vote, and the balance of power on the state Supreme Court is at stake. Right now there are 4 Republicans and 3 Democrats on the court, but one of those Republicans is Prosser. Expect lots of organizing and millions of dollars poured into this election, which is much like a political election, with debates and everything. If Democrats win, the legality of what took place tonight may be put in greater question. Here you can help Kloppenberg: Support the recall effort against Republican state Senators in Wisconsin by contributing to the Democratic Party of Wisconsin. The Democratic Party of Wisconsin is the organizational hub for the recall effort. http://www.actblue.com/page/orangetoblue2012?refcode=3_10_Recallc If I can’t be there to support the Wisconsin recall effort, the least I could do is send some money! » Posted By BigDogMom On March 10, 2011 @ 8:15 am US-Uncut, local Moveon.org or Organizing for America seem to be in the fore front now in my area, sign up for their e-mail alerts. I’ve been using Facebook to get the word out, educate people and post my concerns…seems to be working, because what I put out there seems to go full circle and come back to me from one of my friends! 🙂 » Posted By BigDogMom On March 10, 2011 @ 7:47 am Morning CL-On the Ed Show last night the reporter for The Nation said that there are 100’s of people out in Wisc. that have never protested before…to me this is a good sign. That protesting is not just for those 60’s type radicals…this is for all of us to do! » Posted By BigDogMom On March 10, 2011 @ 7:42 am Morning kes, sometimes I think that the President’s strategy is to just step back and let it all unfold, let the GOP dig themselves deeper into that big hole of theirs by their actions of late. Lord, I pray that if this is what he is doing and that it succeeds in 2012, it brings back a Dem majority with more friggin PROGRESSIVES that get the job done! » Posted By BigDogMom On March 10, 2011 @ 7:37 am Buddy your very talented, every time I see or hear the words “Fear” I repeat this statement to myself: FEAR: False Expectations Appearing Real Fear and anger are definitely connected, but my question always was, what came first? I hate to say, but this is just what the Country needs to wake up out of it’s slumber of the last 30 odd years of Reaganism. Maybe now things will slowly change…. » Posted By BigDogMom On March 10, 2011 @ 1:16 amComments Posted By BigDogMom

But even in midst of the wreckage falling around us, never forget that we have recourse to overturn this bill and restore workers’ rights. The two most promising avenues are legal challenges and recall campaigns. David Dayen breaks down the legal situation:
