Note to Joe Biden: You Need to Use Judo in the Next Debate

Thanks Murph. It just came out today that the Debate Commission WILL add a kill switch for the mics in the next debate and other provisions, hopefully a punishment for those who repeatedly abuse the rules like a loss of speaking time.

Could I ask you to share this article with the Yabberz folks and anywhere else to get it around? I think it’s an important argument for how Biden should deal with Trump and help bring about a landslide on Election Night that prevents Trump from getting any support on trying to override our democracy.

Yes, as you say, there is nothing that should stop Biden and his surrogates right now from using Trump’s debate immolation to illustrate how unfit Trump is for office and connect it to all of his other acts. Use the theme of “disregard for the lives and well-being of others to grab what he wants”. Cheating on his taxes, lying about being a successful businessman, killing 200,000 Americans, rooting on racial conflicts, and a civil war between Americans.

This is the problem with longtime establishment Dems running Biden’s campaign. They’ve been doing this the same way, election after election or under the wing of those doing it like this for decades. This era is different and while I have noted more openness to trying different things, they noo doubt believe in building and sticking to a strategy, not as willing to change course based on what’s happening at that moment.

I’ve felt so helpless on the idea front, on how to deal with the police and secret police assaults on the George Floyd/BLM protests. Any action, even defensive that protesters make can be used by the police as an excuse to ratchet up the violence. But here, against the assaults by Trump on Biden and the country, there is a tactic for using his weight against himself.

You’re very kind, thank you, I am doing my best now to share this around the interwebs as much as possible and will tweet it to Biden’s Twitter account though I won’t put too much hope in that alone.

Thanks so much, NoManIsAnIsland! Hope I can get it around enough to get his team to consider it!

Trump makes himself so vulnerable to being branded unfit, I think playing it safe and just sticking to the issues is moot when Biden is just interrupted and talked over by Trump.

How Dems Should Respond to Mitch McConnell’s SCOTUS Hypocrisy

Thanks. I can never say enough for the amazing work Choicelady and IMPACT do for regular people.

But there is never anything more destructive and evil than someone exploiting religion to dominate and oppress others.

He is very good as a comedian and performer, right on the money and I’m very picky. It is funny that playing this character with Trump going rogue makes him politically correct. Indeed!

Thanks for sharing this, Kes. Never seen him before but he’s very good! And his point is made so simply, no one can miss it unless they’re a cult member.

My mistake, this article was by Murph and my name wrongly showed as author.

That said, yes, your excellent sports allegories are hardly exaggerations. Even in the campaign, the MSM cooperates and holds the Dem to high standards that they won’t hold the Repub to.

If Biden makes one misstatement in a debate while Trump lies and rambles incoherently, I think the “news” will be about Biden stumbling.

I think it’s time Dems accepted and recognized the double standard game and quit trying to win by its rules. Call it out, condemn those trying to push it and ignore it in actions. Repubs should be run over like slow armadillos in a unitary Dem government. We don’t need their input or their meddling, they’ve done far worse to Dems and the majority of Americans over the past years. Time to even the playing field first then they need to come hat in hand to Dems to participate in Congress.

Any tool of power will always be stolen by the power hungry. That is what’s happened with religion and Christianity in particular in the US. Yet, organizations like IMPACT in CA, are Christian-led but Progressive and truly Christian in their positions in caring about the health and welfare of the people.

But the destructive aspects of the corrupt “Christians” are far more potent. Always easier to destroy than build.

Having politicians appoint judges is a de facto corrupt thing. How can it not be political now, when McConnell killed the filibuster rule for SCOTUS judges? And the Blue Slip for lower court judges. If these things could be legislated into place and not removed by subsequent Republican Senate leaders, maybe there could be at least a little de-politicizing of appointing judges.

And it should always be required that a candidate for the court gets a “qualified” rating from the ABA.

If you really think about Cruz, all he’s said and done through the years, it’s clear why he is the most disliked person in The Senate.

He is a slimy weasel. He looks like a slimy weasel. He crawls through lies and propaganda like a slimy weasel.

I think he would lose hands down to Beto if that election was this year.

» Posted By AdLib On September 22, 2020 @ 2:47 pm

The unfortunate thing is that sociopaths can’t be shamed. We have Russia as a part owner of the GOP and the official owner of the president.

We are in deep shit and if Dems win unified power in Nov as I think they will, despite Trump’s cheating, Dems must toss out the rules that would tie their hands, like the filibuster, to urgently repair our Country and democracy.

» Posted By AdLib On September 22, 2020 @ 2:43 pm

First off, I was helping to post this for Murph and accidentally, my name was listed as author at first (it’s now corrected).

Secondly, I am in strong agreement on Dems ending the filibuster and using a unitary government to fully reform the courts. Part of that requires enlarging the SCOTUS to 13 seats, one for each district court, and enlarging district courts. First, it will undo the stacking that McConnell and Trump have done in their evil, hand-wringing way. Second, it will provide for more cases to be heard by all courts and fix some of the long delays that are common.

Part of justice reform should include the ability to rotate judges out of the SCOTUS after a period of time because lifetime appointments are a bit insane in the SCOTUS (what is the point of Thomas being on the court for another 10 years?).

Also, there needs to be a quick path for urgent issues, like a president refusing to turn over his tax returns or Congress enforcing subpoenas and testimony.

Inspector Generals should not be able to be fired by a President without Congress’ approval and even then, only for Proven cause, not to prevent their investigations.

There should be an independent prosecutor provision that is triggered automatically whenever a president, his staff, VP or a cabinet member is accused of potential wrongdoing by Congress or an IG. Neither the President or the DOJ should have any authority over that prosecutor, he/she should report only to Congress.

And let’s get the Hatch Act invigorated and enforceable by Congress/Independent Prosecutor. And pass nepotism laws that prevent a president from giving a grain of power or government money to any relative And give that Independent Prosecutor empowerment over enforcing the emoluments clause and modify the law to allow any citizen, who is indeed directly impacted by a president being bribed, to file charges against a president so there is never an obstacle of having standing to pursue such crimes.

That’s a start.

How to Stop Trump’s Race War

Very good advice. Especially for those in swing states, early voting is a very good idea though just as good as dropping off a mailed ballot at a drop box well before the election. My one concern though is voting on machines that don’t have paper trails and have modems that allow them to be hacked.

States usually start counting early votes and mailed-in votes before election day so as we’ve seen in past elections, very often the first vote totals we see when polls close is of early and mailed in votes.

Trump seems desperate to make everyone vote in-person so I have to wonder if he has been counting on, with help from Putin and/or Repub pols in states, some sort of operations on Election Day to disrupt and/or hack voting on that day. From Putin hacking into the power grid and causing chaos (knocking out all electronic voting machines along with traffic lights, gas station pumps, etc.), to polling places being suddenly closed or running out of ballots, to Trump declaring a state of emergency due to an alleged threat by Antifa, etc. and rolling out the military to polling places to scare away and intimidate voters, to an admitted scheme already underway to send 50,000 Trumpers to polling places around the country to challenge the legitimacy of voters, most likely people of color, and force them to vote provisionally, Trump’s plans for cheating on Election Day are too worrisome.

So, as I’m preaching now, Americans must vote BEFORE Election Day to protect their rights or they may find them taken away. Since the mail is no longer as trustworthy, if people can’t mail their ballot at least 2 weeks ahead of time, they should use drop boxes or drop off at polling places o Election Day if their state allows that (most states do but important to doublecheck your own state).

War Is Peace; Freedom Is Slavery; Ignorance Is Strength – 1984

Hi twilson117, I absolutely know what you mean. I’ve found it much more challenging to write articles in this manic period of the Trump Era because each outrage is quickly topped by another the following day. I know that the strategy of authoritarians is to overwhelm and overburden citizens so that thinking about what is going on is exhausting, divining what is true and what is propaganda is more difficult and erosion of rights is so frequent it’s hard to stay focused on protecting any one of them.

Still, what was a severe issue yesterday can be replaced with a more outrageous one today which can be disconcerting at the very least.

I think there is a link between sabotaging education and playing the racist tribal game with the less educated who adopt political authoritarians the same way they view religious leadership, absolute and deserving of blind faith.

As the wealthy and corporations have used the GOP to continuously destroy the standard of living for the less educated, they have also been very clever in dodging the blame by holding up the Dems and people of color as the ones responsible for the damage the wealthy have inflicted on the poorer white population.

Tribalism is all they have left and they cling to it with a form of desperation. Despite their failing standard of living, the one thing they’ve had to soothe their insecurity has been white supremacy. Even those who are not openly racist and even see themselves as fair minded may have relied on, “Everything in my life may be bad right now but at least I have the built-in advantage of being white,” and as that belief is challenged more and more in society, they too find excuses to be tribal and support the avatar of white supremacy and hatred of racial equality, Trump.

It’s actually absurdly easy to convince these racist tribalists of anything as long as it enforces tribalism, “We’re righteous and they’re the enemy deserving of hatred and abuse.”

There is no critical thinking in the Trump cult, as with any cult. It is seen as opposing the leader to question the propaganda and an affirmation to quickly adopt even the most ridiculous positions such as protesting against wearing masks in a pandemic and believing QAnon’s insanity about Dems being child molesting cannibals.

The question may be, if we hopefully win this election as we should, what do we do about this?

I think the first principle should be to stand tough and aggressive on racists acts of violence and threats. Trump has made so many feel they now have permission to spout open racism And be violent. That needs to be slapped down hard.

Then, real help for all Americans on the many critical and neglected issues need to be addressed, especially institutionalized racism and economic injustice. The latter would benefit even the angry racist types. Education needs to be strengthened because the ignorance of these people has made them easy marks for these con men and women. And promoting the benefits of the change that is happening and will happen, to battle against the lies from Fox News and the saboteurs on the right is critical.

I don’t expect we will be able to change the minds of a majority of these racist, authoritarian tribalists. I do think making everyone’s lives better (aside from the 1%), will at least lower the level of anger and conflict in the country and give people better lives.

To accomplish this, Dems need to win the WH, The Senate and hold The House then they need to get rid of the filibuster in The Senate. Big change fast is needed and while I already have heard the old school Dems backing away from this, allowing Repubs to block big change will only hurt the nation and damage the Dems in the next election when they have failed to pass big changes.

America needs change in the vein of FDR, to get us past COVID-19, the recession/depression that’s being covered up by Trump’s trillions in handouts to Wall Street and very importantly, bring the nation together with a better standard of living for people of all races.

It is a necessity to be bold and effective in 2021, I like that Biden and Harris are saying they will be, as long as they are brave enough to follow through and delegate power to other strong and smart Dems and professionals, we could come out the other side of the Trump Era with a better life for all and hopefully, a less influential hate machine on the right that has only the intention of dividing and oppressing.

Excellent article, twilson117! You really touched all the bases and brought it all home by applying Orwell’s pillars of totalitarian propaganda from 1984.

There are competing outrages in all of this, also a trinity. Who is more frightening and shocking to be involved in this attempt to overthrow our democracy?

Trump? The GOP? Or their cult-like, deranged voters?

I don’t think Trump or the GOP actually believes in the worrying propaganda you point out. Trump is using it as part of his con job, solely aimed at his cultists. The GOP appears just to be mercenary, their beliefs don’t matter to them, they’re only about clinging to the cult figure who their maniacal voters are devoted to above any of them…and fearful of crossing him because he can turn these cultists against them.

Then there are these cultists. Republican voters who are so blinded by their racial hatred and worshipful of their Avatar of Bigotry because he hates and attacks all the “right” people. He is their protector of white supremacy and affirms their resentment against the majority of Americans who simply want equality…which they see as stealing power and superiority away from them.

So they are Trump’s cult no matter what he says but the propaganda is meant for them and the pliant media, to give all these fake arguments to them that simultaneously support their need to righteous. And when they see the propaganda all over the media, supportively on Fox and OANN and informationally on other news networks, it affirms it all to them.

This Orwellian propaganda is only consumed whole by those already addicted to the Trump Kool-Aid. They need a constant dose of it to stay deranged and whipped up and Trump knows this, as all cult leaders do. They must continuously feed their cult members fear and affirmation. Fear that their enemies intend to destroy them and everything they care about and affirmation that they are the true heroes in this conflict, they are protecting their tribe and their God-given entitlement to power over the “non-believers”.

And of course, the generator of all of this is the growing majority that rejects white supremacy and is changing the balance of power to a multi-ethnic majority where the white power types will be in the unempowered minority.

I’m not concerned that voters will be swayed by Trump’s authoritarian propaganda, after all these years of witnessing Trump’s 20,000+ lies and the revelations from Bob Woodward, Mary Trump, Michael Cohen, Jeffrey Goldberg, etc., they know wh Trump is and how his words are betrayals.

But it is of value to do as you did, call attention to the malign intent behind what he’s saying and doing, so the majority of Americans can be even more motivated to rebut Trump and defeat him no matter what on November 3rd.

Stealing From Taxpayers, Charities and Voters…Trump is a Career Thief Who Must Be “Arrested”

Well that’s a first! What’s abusive about calling someone a thief who has been found by courts to be a thief, with Trump University, Trump Foundation, etc, where his criminality was proven?

I see Facebook as a Trump-loyal platform that has and continues to exploit and abuse its users for its own profit and power. I don’t think any article from The Planet has ever been blocked before but as Facebook cements itself into a pro-fascist stance, it’s not terribly surprising.

Even so, it’s posted on our Facebook page at this link so you could just link to it there:

https://www.facebook.com/planetpov/posts/3441820872503228

And I read recently that their algorithm, there or on Instagram, was “accidentally” blocking criticisms of pro-Trump posts but not doing the same for pro-Biden posts.

You know, so many accidents always happen at Facebook that benefits Zuckerberg and Trump and never benefit the users or Trump’s opponents. What a coincidence!
