Are Trump and Bannon Trying to Inspire a Terrorist Attack?

gyp46, as we’ve learned this week, he killed an 8 year old girl, dozens of civilians and a Navy SEAL in his first disastrous military raid in Yemen. He couldn’t wait to throw his power around and order a military attack and did so without caring about the loss of innocent life.

Sociopaths don’t care about the lives of others and are capable of terrible things.

The Revolution Will Be Feminized

Nirek, I think this movement can only grow from the already enormous size it’s started out at. It’s very much about the dignity and rights of Americans, using the chauvinist system of oppression and suppression that Trump embodies as a starting point.

The minority composed of wealthy white males have been squeezing the majority tighter and tighter and I think Trump’s being in the WH will be the last straw.

As Dickens wrote in A Tale of Two Cities:

“It was the best of times, it was the worst of times, it was the age of wisdom, it was the age of foolishness, it was the epoch of belief, it was the epoch of incredulity, it was the season of Light, it was the season of Darkness, it was the spring of hope, it was the winter of despair, we had everything before us, we had nothing before us, we were all going direct to Heaven, we were all going direct the other way – in short, the period was so far like the present period, that some of its noisiest authorities insisted on its being received, for good or for evil, in the superlative degree of comparison only.”

There are difficult times ahead because of Trump but there is also great opportunity for unity because most Americans share a common enemy now. And I think The Women’s March is a powerful step forward towards that and will continue to grow in size and more importantly, in vision and influence.

VB, here’s a link to a slideshow of a variety of signs left behind by Women’s Marchers: https://www.yahoo.com/news/discarded-protest-signs-women-march-slideshow-wp-165716987/photo-p-discarded-signs-women-march-photo-165716151.html

Hey VB, I don’t know how much of the protests you saw, I really wanted to attend the one here in LA but had a conflict I unfortunately couldn’t change. So I watched it for many hours on tv and I saw women of all ethnicities and walks of life, young and old, rural and urban, with signs about a wide variety of issues.

People came out to march for the issues that meant the most to them but it was all under the umbrella of women being empowered. So I would disagree that it wasn’t all inclusive on issues, just google “Women’s March signs” and you’ll see how many different issues so many different women (and men) were marching for.

Also, it’s not the case that this march was white women. It was all races, religions and nationalities. It was in urban areas and suburban areas, in the West and Deep South and it wasn’t just here in the US but was global, in Asia, Africa, South America, etc.

Additionally, I can’t agree with the assumption that the marchers were either Bernie supporters who didn’t vote for Hillary or Trump voters who now have buyer’s remorse. I would however bet that at least 90% of the people who marched in the US voted for Hillary because the signs they carried (and that appear in my post) are the signs of Democrats who oppose Trump. I think they feel just as you do about Trump having won. That’s why they felt they had to do something about it and marched.

I think it would be self-destructive to the Dem party and to any movement being built to oppose Trump and take back the WH if some Dems continued focusing their anger on blaming fellow Dems for Trump winning. This is a time to come together against this sick, dangerous man, which is why I am so enthused by this march. The revolt has started and I think it’s time Dems turned their resentments away from fellow Dems and aimed their anger at the true adversary that poses a threat to us.

» Posted By AdLib On January 23, 2017 @ 5:59 pm

Kalima, I have to think that most Americans (who already oppose Trump anyway) and most people around the world (except the propagandized Russians) feel just as inspired as we do. It did affirm what we may not have been as sure of, that there are millions of fellow citizens around us in the U.S. and around the world who are just as outraged about Trump and will stand up together in big numbers against him and what he represents.

I’d guess that the success of this will snowball and make more people energized to come out the next time.

As for the Republicans you refer to, I think many would say they do respect the women in their life but we would see that their disrespect spoke louder than their words.

The type of men who exploit chauvinism in societies do so because they benefit from it and their selfishness overrides any crumb of conscience. They have a limited capacity for compassion and view women as objects and inferiors because they are in fact threatened by them.

Many Republican men support positions that would take away the rights of the women in their family but there are a lot of Republican women too who disrespect women, they’ve bought into chauvinism as the way society should be because that world they grew up in makes more sense to their poor corrupted minds.

Though, if a Republican man’s mother, wife or sister was sexually assaulted by a Republican politician with similar views as they hold…might they not feel differently?

Love and compassion are political issues, maybe among the most important right now and we’re not going to see it advanced by Republicans. Who better than free thinking, conscientious women to pursue and promote this and other critical agendas?

I am very enthused by this and whatever the damage Trump does, I think we will come back at him and Repubs in massive numbers to see our society fixed and made better.

gyp46, right with you on that, I started watching the live coverage of the DC march and I couldn’t stop! It was so exciting to watch this happening, such massive amounts of marchers, all so committed and passionate yet calm with confidence.

This is a movement I am thrilled to follow and be apart of. Not a diss of Hillary but this march proved what I feel Hillary never successfully communicated to the country, how strong and effective women can be at leading.

As for Trump for whom size matters, his inauguration crowd looked like a Chuck E Cheese birthday party compared to the massive Women’s March that was worldwide.

Size does matter when it comes to hammering Trump and it’s clear to all but Sean Spicer that Trump ended up (of course) on the short end.

Hey FD, thanks, I am so inspired and energized by this women’s movement that includes all of us. They created a massive global protest that is smart, witty and peaceful. I don’t know a men-driven movement could have accomplished what they did.

And not a small point, their signs all had correct spelling, showing far more smarts to go along with their protest than Tea Party haters.

Cheers to your daughter, very cool!

Will a Trump Presidency Last Four Years?

After seeing the small inauguration turnout, Trump going nuts and Spicer lying to the press and threatening them at Trump’s urging…and yesterday’s record protest march against Trump…I wonder if Trump will even last four months!

» Posted By AdLib On January 22, 2017 @ 9:42 am

You said it, gyp46!

But Bizarro Trump is about to find out that starting off with more than half of America against him is the best it’s going to get for him.

We will watch some awful things come out of DC but the price Trump and Repubs will pay for it will be massive.

» Posted By AdLib On January 20, 2017 @ 12:39 pm

Kalima, as far as I’m concerned, the FBI has lost its moral standing and I have no expectation for it to deliver justice when it comes to their political allies.

Yep, polls show Trump with only 40% approval and 55% disapproval right now, numbers that have been on the decline since his transition began. Obama had 83% approval and 12% disapproval at the start of his first term.

Trump is a terribly damaged president from the start, he doesn’t have the traits to win over those who dislike him. In fact, his instincts will only increase his negatives and turn off many of his supporters.

As with nearly every venture he’s been involved with, Trump’s presidency is destined to go bankrupt.

» Posted By AdLib On January 19, 2017 @ 9:05 pm

Kes, so many folks are understandably still a bit in disbelief that Trump will be President but once you accept it, you see that there’s no way he can ever be anyone else or escape the doom that such a person makes inevitable if he became president.

» Posted By AdLib On January 19, 2017 @ 8:40 pm

FD, yep, they’ll only turn on Trump out of self-interest, if their re-election is at risk. Which it will be.

The denial that Trump and his cronies are in is permanent. Even when 80% of the country is against them, they will just attack the polls and try to plow ahead.

But as mentioned above, Repub congressmen won’t be along for the ride.

Trump is doomed especially because he has no sense of how the majority fo Americans view him and because he is clueless about so much else.

If you judge all Americans based on the fools who bought his con and voted for him, as he does, he has a big surprise coming.

» Posted By AdLib On January 19, 2017 @ 8:37 pm

Kalima, in the first place, the FBI interfered with the election to slant it towards Trump, I don’t see Comey wanting to lift a finger against the crimes circling around his boy Trump.

Hate to say it but don’t look for Dems to stand up bravely to Trump until his popularity crashes through the floor. Schumer is a Wall Street DLCer and I see plenty of Dems waving the white flag and thinking they will look good or smart in saying they’re willing to work with Trump.

Americans have to be willing to come down on Dems that give aid and comfort to Trump as well as Trump and his supporters. Anyone assisting Trump’s destruction of our society, democracy and economy need to go down with him and voters should make this crystal clear.

BTW, I saw a comment at WAPO with this quote, had to share it:

“As democracy is perfected, the office of president represents, more and more closely, the inner soul of the people. On some great and glorious day the plain folks of the land will reach their hearts desire at last and the White House will be adorned by a downright moron.”—Henry Louis Mencken (1920)

PPO, his ego won’t let him avoid public appearances but I wonder if he’ll do what he did in the campaign and only appear publicly when they are assured of a friendly crowd? So maybe no Superbowl but plenty of NASCAR appearances?

» Posted By AdLib On January 19, 2017 @ 8:04 pm

Kes, you make a good, rarely discussed point that since Trump has hidden most of the facts about him, he could be in far worse health than anyone knows.

We know he has all the symptoms of a serious mental illness too so that or both physical and mental illnesses could be set off by the pressures of the office and the unavoidable permanent confrontation he is going to have with the majority of Americans.

The only way his presidency wouldn’t be a disaster would be if all of his lies weren’t lies. But they are.

And as far as delusions go and how they can lead to danger, here are two stories about Trump’s inauguration and North Korea:

Trump Used North Korean Military Parades As Model For His Inaugural Celebration

During the preparation for Friday’s transfer-of-power, a member of Trump’s transition team floated the idea of including tanks and missile launchers in the inaugural parade, a source involved in inaugural planning told The Huffington Post. “They were legit thinking Red Square/North Korea-style parade,” the source said, referring to massive military parades in Moscow and Pyongyang, typically seen as an aggressive display of muscle-flexing.

http://www.politicususa.com/2017/01/19/trump-wanted-inauguration-celebration-resemble-north-korean-military-parade.html

Will North Korea test-launch new ballistic missile to coincide with Donald Trump’s presidential inauguration?

North Korea may already be preparing to test-fire an upgraded intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM), warned South Korea on Thursday, after reports that intelligence agencies had spotted the transport of suspicious military equipment.

The news sparked immediate speculation that North Korean dictator, Kim Jong-un, may be planning an early provocation to test the incoming administration of US President Donald Trump.

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2017/01/19/will-north-koreatest-launch-icbm-coincide-donald-trumps-presidential/

Let’s face it, any smart dictator or terrorist group out there knows Trump has a hair-trigger reaction to being insulted or challenged and that it will only undermine him and the US. So wouldn’t it be logical to predict that many bad players in the world will be working to challenge and provoke Trump?

This could indeed be a very dangerous time for the world.

Nirek, I do think that greed is behind most of what he does so it probably will be what destroys him. He’s a narcissist too so his ego could be what cuts him down too. Or both!

It is hard to imagine how he could continue as president with most of America against him, his criminal behavior as president destroying our democracy and principles and his continued hostility against the press and most Americans.

Repubs in The House won’t even think about impeachment even when it becomes clear he has committed crimes in office…until they see that sticking with him could make them lose their own elections. Then, just like the rats they are, they would quickly leave that sinking ship.

» Posted By AdLib On January 19, 2017 @ 1:55 pm

Kalima, it will take time for Repubs to back away from Trump even after all of the outrageous truths about him come out, look how brazen they are now about trying to destroy ethics standards that he and his cabinet are grossly violating.

The Repubs will have to see the public up in arms and the polls for the next election crashing around them…then I do think it will be possible for Repubs in the House to impeach him and in the Senate to throw him out of office.

If you bet on Repubs doing what’s most self-serving, you’ll rarely lose.

Trump’s being allowed to take the oath of office because both the Repub and Dem establishment don’t want to rock the boat even though a foreign dictator and a partisan FBI Director corrupted the election. They may be different parties but they are both the establishment pols who would rather have a nightmare for four years than do anything that changes the system they control.

If it does turn out that Trump took Kremlin Kash through Russian pawns in the US, Repubs will bail him out and claim he didn’t know.

I think that the way that Trump gets taken down is by himself, with the horrible, unethical things that he and those in his admin do and the realization of the morons who voted for him that they won’t be getting a unicorn on their birthday.

» Posted By AdLib On January 19, 2017 @ 1:49 pm

FD – It sure seems to be an obvious conclusion now, after Trump’s inexplicable and aggressive support of Russia that they have his hamster-sized balls in a vise and he’ll do whatever they ask. And Repubs will go right along with a Russia-influenced presidency because they can use it to pass the horrible bills they want passed.

Republicans embracing Russian control in the WH, Reagan is spinning in his grave as fast as Kellyanne on a talk show.

All of this will sicken and anger the public. As I mentioned, he starts with a majority of Americans against him, it can only get worse as he continues to spew hatred and contempt, flail and fail in the WH.

Bush was bailed out of stealing the WH by wrapping himself in the flag after 9/11 but he eventually burned through that goodwill with all his lies and disasters. Understanding how unhinged Trump is, even a national tragedy wouldn’t rally a majority of people to him, most Americans see him as a political terrorist already.

Even the more open minded people will get fed up with him quickly as his lies and cons are laid bare.

Trump is doomed and the GOP is for supporting him, they just don’t know it yet.

If Trump and His Team Were Characters From Horror Films

VB, I know how you feel but keep in mind that all those rubes who helped elect Trump felt the same way in 2008 and 2012.

The pendulum just keeps swinging back and forth and the proposition I’d offer is that after it’s swung so far right as to put Trump in the WH, imagine how far it will swing back in the Progressive direction in the next elections.

Trump and the GOP destruction machine simply can’t last long. So many tripwires for them to stumble into, from destroying healthcare coverage to slashing taxes and thus slashing revenues to finance the government.

Mexico isn’t paying for a wall, manufacturing jobs ain’t coming back and the DC swamp is only getting deeper.

And what happens when his admin does terrible things against minorities/the poor/women/undocumented immigrants?

Or when the economy and unemployment heads south? Or when another police shooting of an unarmed black man is rationalized by him? Or when the Russians, Syrians, Israelis, etc. do something horrible and he shrugs. Or when another terrorist attack happens in the US, under the guy who promised terrorism would end in America once he was elected?

Trump is so set up for a massive fall. He failed in virtually every business venture, this will be no different.

Since he’s built himself up on a huge pile of lies, just being logical, when they fail to come true as this year unfolds (when the wall isn’t paid for by Mexico, his ignorant voters lose healthcare and don’t gain well paid manufacturing jobs, etc.), he has nowhere to go but down.

I was in a bit of shock after Trump was elected but now that he’s nearly in a position he has no decent qualities to succeed in, I am anxious to get this game on and use each day as another hammer to pound him, the Repubs and their corrupt beliefs into the ground for a much longer time to come.

» Posted By AdLib On January 13, 2017 @ 6:43 pm

fjb, I think we need to laugh in the face of danger because danger is a thin-skinned, mentally ill bigot with narcissistic personality disorder who can’t stand being laughed at.

Good point too, with all the rural folk who voted for this psychologically deformed creature, we do have the plot of a freaky, backwoods horror film.

Wait and see, fjb, I think all the hatred, anti-American/pro-Russian, betrayals of his voters and all Americans will turn on and devour Trump.

We’ve been in a holding pattern while Obama remains President and Trump only threatens to do damage. Once the damage is being done and his own voters are among those most hurt, once his being an embarrassment, liar and fraud has been going on week after week, even more will turn on him.

Never forget, a majority of Americans opposed him in the election and oppose him today. His disapproval is at a record high for an incoming president, in the 50’s, his approval is in the 30’s. He has no mandate or buffer, if things just stayed as they are, he would be in big trouble as bad things happen during his term…but it will get worse.

Folks need to keep their spirits up and have confidence in the laws of physics and probability. What goes up, must come down and Trump and the unprincipled GOP are going to learn that faster than they could ever imagine.

Bi-Partisan Solution to Repeal of Obamacare Emerges

LJ, as many here have repeated to you, there was and is a statement at the bottom of this post that plainly and explicitly states that it is satire.

You missed it, you made a mistake and because you did, launched on this whole misguided criticism. The post did just as you described it should have done and yet you still don’t seem to recognize this reality.

The first step in confronting fake news is to be grounded in reality and arguing that posts should contain statements they already do isn’t a great start in that direction.

You now appear to be proposing that satirists aren’t serious thinkers. Following one mistake with another is just digging a deeper hole.

Jonathan Swift, Mark Twain, Will Rogers, George Carlin, Jon Stewart, Stephen Colbert, etc., have been far more serious and influential thinkers than the majority of “serious thinkers” you could list.

If you think political satire is only about laughing, you have a big gap in your education when it comes to political history and the influence of satirists throughout the years.

Why am I here? Because this is a site where everyone can freely express themselves with confidence, where ideas and concepts can be presented to smart and knowledgeable people for critique and contribution and where many who are witty gather to share incisive and clever humor to skewer and deflate the powerful and yes,to hopefully encourage a smile as we go through difficult political times.

I can’t imagine any site you could go to where you would find many in agreement with the propositions you’re making here, they fly in the face of what progress is all about. The majority of Americans oppose Trump and want things to get better and improve, they don’t want the country dragged down to cater to the ignorance of the poorly educated.

People should not be advised not to write intelligently because someone who’s not intelligent may not understand them. It would not make our society better to pull down those who are more able just because those less able can’t keep up with them.

This election drew a line between the educated and uneducated, the majority of the uneducated backed Trump and their candidate prevailed. He’s not even president yet and he’s already enlarged the political swamp in DC he lied about draining, claims American taxpayers will now pay for the wall and is backing off a day one repeal of the ACA.

Who believed all his obvious lies and con job? Not bright people and not people who rational people should ever allow to dictate their thoughts and manner of free expression.

The reason I said that people who don’t understand satire are people I’d like to satirize is because like most Americans out there, we’re not backing down or giving into the ignorant. We’re not conceding that we have to pander to them or be afraid of them.

They are the ones who need to become enlightened and step up to the level of the majority of Americans who have the ability of critical thinking and are better educated…meaning, less vulnerable to being conned by a blatant fraud like Trump.

These people don’t need to be attacked for the social failures (mainly due to Repubs) that have led to their poor educations, they need first to recognize the mistakes they’ve made by voting with their emotions instead of their reason and Trump will teach them that lesson very painfully.

Then they need to recognize the value of truth, voting in their own interests and employing critical thinking.

The people you’re urging others to cater to are the ones who need to smarten up, we don’t need to dumb things down to accommodate those who are lacking insight. We need to help them climb the ladder to rise up from ignorance and emotions overpowering reason, as it’s being used by the powerful and wealthy to manipulate them.

The worst thing we could do is buy into and validate ignorance. Ignorance should be called out and shunned, it leads to poverty and disempowerment.

Did you know that most Trump voters heavily rely on the subsidies of the ACA for healthcare? And yet they voted for the candidate and party that vowed to rip it away from them on day one. Some of them could literally be an accomplice in their own premature death. Those are not people whose ignorance should be affirmed and accomodated.

Those who are co-dependent share the responsibility for the damage to our democracy and society that stems from ignorance. By accommodating ignorance, one is surrendering to it.

And as I said, it is very unlikely that educated and enlightened people out there would be sympathetic to your call for accommodating ignorance by self-censoring oneself or always explaining jokes in case they’re read by those who aren’t bright enough to get them.

Dumbing down is not something most Americans would support, certainly not journalists or those who write well considered thoughts about what matters in our world.

We’ll leave that to the Alt Right sites, they’re happy to dumb things down and cater to and encourage ignorance.

You are right about one thing though, that isn’t going to happen on this Planet.

» Posted By AdLib On January 11, 2017 @ 11:09 pm

LJ, you don’t seem to know the difference between an echo chamber and someone disagreeing with you.

What I wrote was a disagreement with your crusade to wipe out satire. It’s wrongheaded and is a Trump policy, very surprising that you would embrace a policy of Trump’s while expressing you oppose him.

I disagree that a society should dumb itself down to the lowest mentalities.

If it’s helpful, here is how “echo chamber” is defined by Wikipedia:

An echo chamber is a metaphorical description of a situation in which information, ideas, or beliefs are amplified or reinforced by communication and repetition inside a defined system.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Echo_chamber_(media)

And here is how “disagreement” is defined by Merriam Webster:

a difference of opinion : an argument caused by people having different opinions about something

https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/disagreement

A person can’t be an echo chamber, when I disagree with you, your calling me an echo chamber is a misunderstanding of what it means.

I disagree with you, some here didn’t respond to you in disagreement and were only complimentary of the points you made that they did agree with.

I’ve disagreed with virtually everyone here at one time or another, though many here share Progressive values, they have their own unique views and are as free to express them here as you have been.

That doesn’t happen in an echo chamber. What does happen at Progressive blogs though is that someone may propose something that is on principle, objectionable to many.

As I’ve mentioned above, advocating censorship will never get wide approval from Dems or Progressives. Calling those who oppose censorship an echo chamber is just avoiding facing the reality of your proposition and the views of most Dems and Progressives.

Anyone here advocating against any other core Constitutional rights here would likely meet the same objections.

But you weren’t censored, your comments and POV remains here as part of the conversations and available for everyone to view and assess for themselves.

That doesn’t happen in an echo chamber.

» Posted By AdLib On January 10, 2017 @ 6:32 pm

LightningJoe, I would think that the reason that some folks here don’t understand your rabid opposition to satire and free expression is because among Progressives, your views are very rare and contradictory.

Progressives value and believe in the 1st Amendment and protecting free expression. Progressives see satire as a valuable tool to expose and attack those who would use their position of power to take away the rights of others.

Your position against people expressing themselves as they wish is not a Progressive view, in fact, it is actually in line with what Trump advocates.

Trump has attacked SNL for satirizing him and thinks the show should be cancelled because of it. You’re similarly advocating the silencing of satire against Trump, you just have a different (and questionable) reason for insisting on it but your ultimate goal matches Trump’s, stopping the satirization of Trump.

It’s difficult to understand your proposition, that the way for America to deal with malicious forces such as Putin’s Russia and the Alt Right abusing our freedom of speech in this country with spreading fake news, is to convince people to stop exercising their own free expression.

Isn’t it obvious that anyone desiring to suppress the freedom of expression of Americans, especially when it comes to political views, is in direct conflict with the 1st Amendment and the core rights that this country is about?

In fact, the 1st Amendment is primarily aimed at protecting the political speech of Americans. Standing in opposition to the 1st Amendment isn’t going to attract applause at any Progressive site.

This all comes across as pretzel logic, Americans opposing Trump should only write with Trump voters in mind as their readers so in the unlikely case that a Trump voter ever read what they wrote, it won’t be misunderstood by them and satire wouldn’t be spread as truth.

Do you really think that Progressives silencing themselves will somehow stop Trump supporters here and in Russia from spreading fake news? I don’t see any connection.

For the most part, Trump cultists only write to and read from each other. The election was proof of that, they’re in their own little bubble, immune to reality and facts, they don’t read anything outside of their bubble and not from sites that don’t affirm their emotional (and often bigoted) beliefs.

It’s pointless to ask Progressives to dumb themselves down to the level of those who are too ignorant to recognize obvious humor and are too dumb to understand expressly written statements in satirical posts that state that they are in fact satirical posts.

Scapegoating those here who express the same common sense on this doesn’t accomplish anything, you would be just as hard pressed to find anyone at any site (other than pro-Trump sites), agreeing with your call for people to censor themselves to cater to ignorant Trump supporters.

The irony is that you are the only one here actually supporting Trump and his supporters (who are the ones who support and promote fake news), on their calls for censorship of Progressive voices and silencing satire of Trump.

To be clear, satire is not fake news, they are nowhere near the same. Satire is constructive political speech, important and valuable and has been proven so throughout our political history.

Advocating censorship has always been rejected by those who believe in The Constitution and the 1st Amendment. Folks here and at any legit Progressive site do support them. The only kind of site I can think of where you’d find others supporting your call for censorship would be populated by Trump voters.

Ironic indeed, in the pursuit of opposing Trump, you’ve adopted one of his policies and criticize Progressives for opposing it.

As they said in Airplane 2 (a satirical movie), “Sometimes irony can be pretty ironic.”

Funk, good point, I could absolutely see them turn the ACA into an annually approved program too use for extortion but wouldn’t insurance companies bail on the ACA rather than be under annual threat of having it killed?

The dog caught the car and doesn’t know what to do now!

» Posted By AdLib On January 9, 2017 @ 5:03 pm

Funk, especially when the only idea you have is to make the wealthy wealthier, not an ideal mindset for figuring out a system that supports the majority who need the wisdom of a compassionate goovernment.

What we have seen especially from McConnell and Ryan is that they have no shame in claiming that something they condemned under Obama is a fantastic thing now that they’re in power. So I wouldn’t doubt at all that they could just repackage the ACA with extra Repub goodies and claim victory. But in the end, it would damage them anyway because it would affirm what frauds they are.

» Posted By AdLib On January 9, 2017 @ 5:00 pm

LightningJoe, this past election did seem to illustrate that Trump voters lack self-awareness, the ability of critical thinking, principles, acting in their own best interests and a decent sense of humor.

I think it would be handing them, the Russians and Trump a victory in suppressing free speech if we voluntarily decided to self-censor ourselves because of their lack of comprehension. If they don’t understand satire, my instinct is to satirize that.

Ridicule is one of the most powerful tools in weakening support for horrible government officials and it’s not one we should voluntarily disarm ourselves from using.

Fake news isn’t funny, it is actually easier to discern from satire because there is nothing funny about it and it usually contains powerfully denigrating claims about Democrats or glowing falsehoods about how wonderful one or more Republicans are.

When people voluntarily give up rights as a response to those exploiting those rights (as happened right after 9/11), the damage is exponential and long term. Not only will those abusing the freedoms of a society continue their abuse, the rights that people give up may be difficult to reassert.

Lastly, nothing expressed by anyone other than a RW extremist will penetrate the closed and narrow minds of Trump loyalists and if they run with satire as if it’s the truth to the public, they will be humiliated for doing so very shortly.

The more others abuse our 1st Amendment, the more we need to exercise it to combat them.

» Posted By AdLib On January 9, 2017 @ 4:50 pm

LightningJoe, this article is satirical. I know that in this Trump Era, the line between satire and reality is a bit blurred but have no concern that fake news is echoed here at PlanetPOV.

Your concern over fake news is appreciated. It needs to be rejected outright while we affirm the importance of being able to ridicule those in power, using satire and humor in general to bring them down from the pedestals they climb on top of.

» Posted By AdLib On January 9, 2017 @ 2:20 pm

Well done, Funk!

The Repubs seem to have really identified the main problem with Obamacare. It was passed by Democrats and Obama. Just by changing the name and voting for it themselves while removing most of the financing for it will surely make Trumpcare far better than Obamacare.

Looks like Repubs may not get to do Repeal and Delay afterall:

Paul, Trump upend GOP’s Obamacare repeal plans

After Rand Paul spent the last week urging the GOP not to repeal Obamacare without having a replacement plan ready, his phone rang on Friday night with a call from a new supporter: Donald Trump.

“He called after seeing an interview that I had done [talking about] that we should vote on Obamacare replacement at the same time,” Paul said in an interview on Monday. “He said he was in complete agreement with that.”
