Kalima, I think the worst part of the trip would be waiting around naked in baggage claim and watching people awkwardly hauling their suitcases off of the luggage carousels. And I don’t want to even think of getting trapped in a middle seat between two overweight men.

But, if AOL thinks its okay, who am I to think for myself and fly on another airline?

Now that HP has shown you can lie to your members about not doing something then go ahead and do it anyway, I feel comfortable responding to your inquiry.

It is absolutely untrue that PlanetPOV will require its members to register with Hickory Farms, Grindr or Chuck E. Cheese.com in order to post at this site.

That said, expect that policy to be implemented stealthily within a few months. Have a cheesy day!

Quick Brown Dog, not sure if you’re just kidding but showing Twitter feeds or YouTube videos or whatever on a site is simply showing data from another site, that’s it. Nothing to do with our site’s server or data.

We never share data on our site with anyone.

HP began with a different blogging platform than WordPress which is just a software so no, WordPress has nothing to do with nor any access to our database.

Hope this puts your concerns to rest.

CAdawn, have you signed up for Gravatar in the past? Doing so requires a WordPress.com account and is done as part of that process.

Greta, since WordPress.com is a separate site and has separate accounts, what’s very possible is that someone else already has that username. Try setting up a different username, perhaps adding an extra number letter to your desired username and that should solve that issue.

Many here are right with you, never going to walk off that cliff just for the privilege of being taken advantage of further. HP seems to want to purge its comments sections and membership, reducing them to a more compliant herd that they can shear of privacy for financial and political gain.

Empowering them at this point for any true Progressive is working against one’s own best interest and that’s what we frequently criticize the GOP base for doing.

Have you tried using their lost password function? It’s at this link: http://en.wordpress.com/wp-login.php?action=lostpassword , they will send you a temp password you can then change.

If that doesn’t work for any reason, you can just create a new WordPress.com account with any email address and link that one.

If you’re newer to The Planet, you may not be aware that all members can post articles on whatever they’d like. The articles that are about news and politics are more likely to appear on our front page while articles that are more more personal, observations, about the arts, etc., are more likely to appear in Speakers Corner.

That said, just wanted to point out to our newer members that SmotPoker just posted a new and very amusing article, “The Night I was Karma’s Bitch” which appears in Speakers Corner and if you want a fun read (very well written too), I highly recommend clicking and checking it out.

FYI, all of our posts, front page and Speakers Corner, appear under the “Recent Posts” widget in the right hand column, always check it out to see if you’ve missed a great article (to those who have opted in, we send emails with links on all of our posts to our membership).

Hey CADawn! The best way to see all the replies to your comments, like you could at HP, is by a simple process. Then you will have a Replies icon in the top menu that you can click to see all the replies you’ve gotten to your comments.

It’s easy, just go to your Dashboard, click on Jetpack then again on Jetpack on the sub menu. On the screen that comes up, click the green button to connect your WordPress.com account (if you don’t have one, you can create one by clicking the green button) and you’ll have this great feature.

Most folks here have a WordPress.com account, you need it to register at Gravatar and have an avatar displayed here. And unlike Facebook, these accounts are “dumb”, they don’t request any personal information.

If you need any help with this, don’t hesitate to ask.

Mr. Hoodoo, yes, I did explore that in my post as well and I do think there is a complete package here that one should consider.

Putting the data streams together on one’s explicit political opinions, positions on social issues and party loyalty with one’s personal identity, their friends and families, likes and dislikes, activities and interests, is valuable because it is a virtual carbon copy of who an individual is. If they have all that info about you and you’ve been somewhat of a sharer on FB, they have captured you.

Now, a corporation could compile such intimate and stark profiles of millions of people and sell that invaluable information for great profits…while still retaining their own copies of it.

Who would they sell to? Who would be interested in knowing everything about individuals and their political leanings? Aside from corporations that could use that info to micro target Americans as consumers, it sure wouldn’t hurt the Koch Brothers or Karl Rove to have all that detailed info about who millions of people exactly are and how they think.

And to an corporation like AOLHP which has invaded the world of news and politics or Facebook which has been pushing its way into politics, might it not provide them with a great deal of power and leverage to have this data in their hands?

All corporations want as much data about the people as they can get, it gives them a greater ability to manipulate and exploit people. And if they had a Republican government representing their core interests, how might such data assist them in addressing dissent and opposition?

We’ve seen how corporations like HP deal with dissent, who would want to give them and their allies greater power to squash it?

Not those who walk away from HP and Facebook, supporting this has no good outcome attached to it.

Mr. Hoodoo, very well said, your points are very well made.

I do think that you and Escribacat are talking about two different types of people though.

You’re addressing those who are continuing at HP, participating in this destruction of privacy while complaining about it at the site. Though I understand how people can become vested in a site and not want to leave it because they feel a strong attachment, by supporting and increasing profits to those who are oppressive, one doesn’t convince them to change their ways. Just the opposite, they become even more confident abotu their schemes.

From some of the HP responses to complaints that have been posted here, it’s clear that they are chuckling at those who have conformed then complain about having done so. They see members as suckers, rubes who can be mistreated but always come back to be mistreated more just to vent their displeasure about being mistreated. And all the while, HP profits off of them.

Unless I’m getting this wrong, Escribacat seems to be talking about the HP Rebels who have come here and gone elsewhere or have remained at the site under the Facebook rule but are going through a kind of grieving process as they break away from HP.

I understand that and appreciate those who are still at HP but are working through their difficulties about saying goodbye forever to HP.

Now those who are there to stay for good and still complain won’t get any sympathy from me. People prove who they are and what principles they truly value only when the time comes to make a sacrifice for those principles. Anyone who truly opposes the aggression of corporate power and intrusion into the privacy of individuals would be hard pressed to retain credibility if they remained at HP for good (again, not addressing those who are in transition).

One can’t stand against gun violence and remain an NRA member…with an explanation. You can’t financially support an entity that opposes some of your core beliefs and still be true to those beliefs.

Sacrifices are required to maintain one’s principles and those who believe that they can have their cake and eat it too are only practicing wishful thinking.

HP is now proven to be anti-Progressive in its policy decisions and anti-democratic in its indifference to the will of the majority. Rewarding them by helping them continue to profit from being just validates their actions and the complaints of those who support them but complain about the compromises it costs them to do so, are just trivial amusements to them.

And HP and Arianna have become as corrupt as we predicted all those years ago.

TV pundits wish they were as accurate as folks here at The Planet are about predicting the future.

Fergie1, nicely handled and well said! You made your points firmly without losing your poise, well done!

It seems that HP is so full of itself and has such a low opinion of its members that it is just going to use the Republican tactic of stubbornly refusing any compromise and forcing their policy down the throats of the members…who they apparently seem to see as spineless addicts that will always come crawling back.

The lockstep repetition of talking points, forcing severe policies on the people even though the majority oppose them, cloaking their unprincipled actions with the guise of protecting the people…what political party does that sound like.

These are not the actions of Progressives, they are the actions of corporate Republicans and I think the the mask has slid down all the way this time.

Beatlex, it is really low of them, don’t you think?

First they ambush their members with a policy that they can’t protest on their site unless they acquiesce to it and even then, they censor some of those protests and suspend members for complaining.

Then when members try to close their accounts, they rig their system so they can’t delete their accounts.

They have a term for an organization that behaves like that…Koch Industries.
