The pundits ARE a big part of the problem. They espouse a thought and everyone is supposed to follow suit. I for one, am just as tired of the supposed ‘left wing’ pundits as I am with the far right ones. They all seem to have their own agenda, and what is good for the majority of the populace IS NOT in their cards. For me, I don’t really care which man,person, child, alien..WHAT have you…has the ability to bring this very divided nation together. Something DOES need to be done to bring us together, otherwise we will not survive and will indeed become a 3rd world nation. SHIFT happens and it is happening right now, even though too many in our nation are not even aware it is happening. I’ve spent the last few months seriously studying the history of the US from the last 100 years from the perspectives of a variety of folk, and what I have learned is nothing is as simple or even as complex as it seems on surface. On the whole I like architecture. I love looking at buildings, especially old ones. But I’m concerned about this constant desire to build taller and taller buildings. It bothers me for some reason. Perhaps it’s the false sense of safety about the engineering that accompanies such man made marvels. In so ways it reminds me of the ill fated ‘Titanic’. This concept that bigger, taller, more stately is better and safe…seems to me rather arrogant. We have yet to really understand the power of nature. WE are limited in our understanding of nature, as well as the consequences of man made constructs. WE as a species are very arrogant and assume we can overcome whatever nature throws at us…but really that isn’t true. These tall buildings bring with them many potential unintended consequences and also power issues. A tall building can block out sunlight to areas surrounding it…a Tall building can be difficult to take down and can cause much damage in it’s wake. A tall building can block air circulation or can trap heat when surrounded by other tall buildings in the area down below. There are so many things that bother me about these very tall structures. The events of 9/11 showcased alot of them. Like the inability to get to those trapped on the top floors if something happens below. I brought this is up before with a list of the top 100 government contractors and the value of those contracts to the private sector. It’s mind boggling. Take away the government spending and they will see further retraction in the overall economy. Economics is a social science and usually requires some knowledge of numbers and the aggregate effect of economic policy on other sectors. ONE would think that someone who supposedly studied economics…would understand the cumulative effect on cutting spending to those entities that provide such services.
