Well, thanks a lot planetpov peeps! You did it again…you managed to inspire me and INSTEAD of doing my homework, like I was supposed to do like a good girl, I felt compelled to write another article!!

On the serious note, I’m hoping now that that is out of my system, I can NOW concentrate on my actual homework…on the plus side the article was related, so not all lost! 🙂

It sounds like a good idea to split them, there is so much going on over there and splitting them will probably make it easier for you to write and the readers to follow.

I really felt for both you and Adlib AND tex last night. It was an odd exchange and both you and Adlib seemed to be trying so hard to help get to the bottom of it…

But it wasn’t all for naught…while much time was wasted, the positive part of the exchange, is I think we all learned something from it and took something away from it, that might benefit us all going forward.

Seeing all the thoughtful comments today about last night…was rather good in it’s own weird off topic way!

WE all learned something…and it was kind of sad, but I think we can take lessons from it! Just my 2 cents! 🙂

I’m really into this making lemonaid out of lemons thing lately! 🙂

SO I have on old re-runs of ‘Bewitched’ playing in the background while I’m playing on the computer…and I am so thinking that if I could twinkle MY nose and make things happen instantly…

Sarah Palin would be sent to Mars, along with all her family and all her friends, Rush, Beck, Bachman, Boehner, Koch brothers, Scalia and Clarence Thomas and his dreadful wife.

WOULDN’T that be hysterical?? They could all live just as they all want…no healthcare, taxes, roads, intrusive government regulations…it would be paradise for them. 🙂

Next, I would twinkle my nose and have Bush, Cheney and the perpetrators of the wall street fiasco zapped into jail cells…
THAT would be paradise for us! 🙂

Oh, the fantasies I’m having….THEY put a BIG smile on my face!

Good points there! Yeah it would have been nice to be able to pull him aside, but as you said it’s probably not practical.

I like texlib, so I was really confused with what transpired…I too, usually want to mediate, but thought better of it last night. I was sensing some serious defensiveness and didn’t want to make it worse!

I tend to agree its not the union per se protecting them, but sadly in NY some of those at the top of that particular union which represents those patronage jobs…are the same people who are there due to favors owed.

The corruption is ridiculous!

He gets to me as well…as does Beck, Palin and Bachman…I have a very hard time being nice or speaking kindly of charlatans! AND that is EXACTLY what people such as they are, snake oil salesman, con artists, shysters, flim-flam artists or charlatans…all those words are appropriate to describe what those people do!

I was actually here last night working on my article, and making other comments at different spots, and saw that very strange exchange. To be honest, I was VERY confused by the whole thing, so I opted to stay OUT of it!

In the light of day, I would like to chime in a little on how I perceived the whole thing.

HP for a while, sucked me in as well. I felt I was contributing something and maybe getting others to see things from a different perspective, I also learned a lot from the different posters. I learned SO much from the posts and links posted by some of the really good posters who were there to really share information and their perspective. In turn I tried to do the same.

However, the forum WAS very limiting in how much you could really provide in way of substance and in my opinion was going down hill, at a drastic rate, especially in the last 6 months.

I was never banned, and really didn’t have many problems on the site, personally. MY issue was the moderation and censorship on the site…it WENT against MY value system and thus is why I CHOSE to leave and never return.

For me, I outgrew the site and the games there. It was no longer a positive. Hence why I sought out another ‘home’. 🙂

I came here because I like the forum and the ability to write REAL articles and have REAL discussions on a variety of topics of interest. I also enjoy immensely the posts of others that provide information from which I CAN LEARN new ideas and things…like Cher’s Reality series or PW’s business series.

THAT is what I am looking for at this time in my life. I don’t need game playing anymore and want to be able to provide REAL commentary on REAL issues. THAT is WHY I prefer it here…NOW. I wasn’t ready for this type of forum a year ago! 🙂

I like texlib…and think maybe he was feeling slighted by all the anti HP talk that has been going on of late. It seemed to me, the comments last night (or early this morning, as the case maybe) were defensive in nature. And I can understand that to some degree…as people in general tend to want to protect what they like and what suits them AT the time.

I had a minor spat with my SO last week (nothing of substance) where I had made a comment about SUV’s and I made a generalized (biased) comment about the TYPE of people I felt drove the BIG SUV’s and Hummers. HE got real defensive with ME, because he has always wanted one…he got hurt that I looked at people who drive SUV’s with disdain (I think they are bad for the environment, the roadways and find MOST people who own them, do so for status and not for practical reasons) JUST MY OPINION! 🙂

I had to step back for a second, and it dawned on me…I DID insult him with my comment.

So anyway, that was how I interpreted Tex’s comments…that he was hurt by the anti HP comments.

We have so much corruption here and yet everyone goes after the Teachers, cops and other essential personal…and no one wants to address the REAL problem…the corruption inherent in the system that has allowed all these patronage jobs, that are also in the the CSEA.

It’s a problem and no one talks about it! Because most of those back room jobs fly under the radar and are not in the public view. Many of these jobs also pay a heck of a lot more than they SHOULD.

Instead teachers, police, fireman and even street cleaners, garbage man, etal WHICH are all ESSENTIAL services are targeted!

It gets my goat! I get so mad about this…Where I live over 45% of all jobs in the region work for the government in some way. I have no problem with the essential jobs. They are necessary and worth every penny.

But all the clerks and secretaries…come on! Why are there five different clerks in one department, as well as 5 secretaries and other clerical staff, to service 1 small department in the year 2011, when all the stuff is computerized?

Some of these jobs have been in place since forever and are no longer relevant TODAY, yet they are still there and are still being filled with friends of friends, relatives, etc.

And the clerical jobs I’m talking about are UNION positions, with a union contracts. Where I live all the services you mentioned are not state jobs, but are ALL town/city or county jobs…and they do all have a union.

Those are NOT the jobs I am talking about.

In NY, there are many patronage jobs in many levels of the state and in municipalities. These are often clerical positions and are NOT essential to the functions of their departments.

I am NOT talking about important jobs like garbage pick up (which aren’t state jobs, but are municipality jobs.

I’m talking about layers of secretaries and clerical staff, that are just no longer needed in today’s office environment, that are still in place in many states. I know we have MANY of these useless jobs…here, that are filled based on someone who knows someone, or by friends of a friend, relative etc…who simply had to pass a simple civil service test and got in.

WE have many of these jobs in New York and the cost the state a bundle.

THAT is what I’m talking about.
