I remember being so angry about welfare reform, back in the 90’s, it was one of the reasons I didn’t care for Clinton all that much…for me, he was the lessor of two evils. ALL the assholes who claim the poor are the problem and helping the least fortunate through our taxes is the problem…need to get out of their lily white suburbs and spend some time in poor neighborhoods and living with the poor and talk to these people; REALLY talk AND LISTEN to those who’s lives are dependent on social services and find out the REAL reasons why so many NEED these programs. The root causes of such high poverty and NEED for social welfare programs are due to problems inherent in our systems…they are systemic and cutting aid to these people, does NOT make the problem go away, it just creates OTHER BIGGER problems…like growth of the underground economy and increases in what mainstream society considers criminal activity. Another point that I thought had merit, is regarding the trust factor of the media. I can understand why some people might be suspicious of things that the MSM does and says. I can also understand WHY some people are suspicious of anything that comes from the government, as certain administrations HAVE used propaganda many times in our past…so the suspicions do have some merit. Personally, I accept that he IS dead. I have no doubt in my mind, on that. So far this is what I think…I believe that Obama believes this was the best course of action for our nation. I truly believe he feels very strongly that OBL should be brought to justice and that this was the most logical justice that COULD be done. I also believe He felt that taking out OBL was necessary for making AL Quada less powerful AND for making Americans feel more confident in our nation and our strength. However, I am not sure that I like the idea of our nation assassinating people, publicly and openly…and with such acceptance. It’s the old…’two wrongs don’t make a right’, for me. I realize it is done and has always been done, I’m not naive, but I don’t like us doing it. While I don’t think that OBL was a good man, and I think he was deluded, I’m not sure he was the most evil man on the planet. I tend to save that moniker for some more close to home. Personally, I think I would be happier if the big announcement was that ALL the perps behind the Economic collapse and Bush/Cheney were all being arrested and indicted. But that is just me! I guess, the double standards bother me, too…it’s ok for Bush/Cheney to go out and kill 300,000 Iraqis….without being held accountable but OBL who is JUST as bad, was the worst person in the world and must be stopped at all costs. Terrorism is a methodology, usually employed by those who have little power, as a way to take on those of GREAT power. Think David vs Goliath. While, terrorism is unsavory, it is also an old, OLD method of warfare, and has been used throughout history by those who feel they are under siege by a much larger oppressor. It’s about perspective I guess…one man’s terrorist is another man’s freedom fighter. While I don’t AGREE with OBL or what he and Al Queda believe and think they are fighting for…I think they are off base completely, BUT I do understand WHY poor, oppressed people are swayed by the messages of such people and I don’t think taking out OBL really accomplishes anything. It’s a feel good thing, that is to make Americans feel better…but I don’t know if it was really that necessary. I tend to think, we would have much less threat of having anyone want to harm us via terrorism, if we stopped all our wars and stopped interfering with other nation’s sovereignty UNLESS they are truly doing something awful (like genocide) and stopped our imperialistic ways AND stopped allowing major corporations to control US and the people of the world. I think if we stopped, behaving with such arrogance and acting as if only RICH, powerful corporations and those who run them matter; and started behaving as good world citizens, we could probably be confident that NO one would want to inflict harm upon us through terrorism. Contrary to what Bush said…they don’t ‘hate us for our freedom’ they hate us for our greed and arrogance.
