WOW…that and editing your own post is simply WONDERFUL…especially to a typo queen such as myself! I read very fast, I took speed reading courses when I was in high school, so I tend to miss the typos on little words, as I glance over them when reading. It’s kind of annoying when one is blogging! I really enjoyed the atmosphere when I first got there and had met so many fabulous people from going there; so for that I am forever thankful. But as I said, in good conscience I couldn’t stay as the values and ideals that brought me there, are no longer there and I am not the same person who started blogging there 3 years ago. The forum no longer is suitable for what I am trying to do with this open communication tool. For me, I can’t speak for anyone else, of course; the on line community that was developed on HP, coupled with the exchange of progressive ideals and the discussion of how to make a difference in our world, was WHY I went there everyday. In addition, the realization that I was not alone in my way of thinking about our world and our problems and that there were others, MANY MANY others who shared those concerns and wanted to lend a voice to those concerns and make their opinions known, made HP good. It’s no longer what it was, and the moderation, censorship and downright suppression of critical thinking and sharing of thoughts, led to my defection more so than the sell out to AOL. I felt that the social contract was broken. People went to that site, to express their ideas, without financial compensation…because their ideas and ability to express them openly meant MORE to them than money. SHE ruined it. I can’t go back or give her even one click as a result. I don’t fault others who continue to use her site…there is still a huge audience. I can’t fault that….nor do I discourage others from taking part…for me however, it’s done. Like a relationship which is no longer good for either party…I had to walk away. It’s been 9 days and I have resisted any urge to even peak. YEAH!!! It’s a matter of principal…My conscience will not allow one click on that site that treats its users with such contempt. If I need the kind of fix that HP provided I take a quick glance at on of the other news outlets sites and read their comments. OR I log on to Facebook. I get it out of my system and then come back here, when I can actually communicate like an adult. It’s working for me.
