It is ALL utter lunacy! Sometimes it truly does feel as if the lunatics are running the asylum!

And it does seem to be by design. The plutocrats are doing a bang up job keeping the nation divided.

YOU never know if you might have something someone else wants, that you might not even consider important but might be to someone else.

I know that one was very serious. I think I have mentioned it before, But I do volunteer work with the homeless…and unfortunately many DO resort to that…which we discourage as well.

There were a few witty quips in there 2CCP. Those quips added a little bit of levity to a very serious subject.

Like the comment about Brad Pitt or the one about the USDA not having a recommended daily allowance of brand names. I thought that was very humorous. 🙂

Great article…with MANY great tips.

On of the things we do in my family to save money(we have the storage space) is buy food in bulk. IF one has the luxury of storage space, and/or a freezer, buying in bulk really SAVES a ton of money in the long run.

Yes, it is an upfront investment, but it does save on one’s monthly food budget. I usually do bulk shopping a couple of times a year or if I see a really good deal on something that we use, we stock up on that item.

Another avenue to consider IF one has the access,(meaning knowing someone in the restaurant business) is restaurant supply stores and food purveyors, the purveyors sometimes have outlet stores located near their warehouses that are open to the public. Some good deals can be found there, if you have the space for the quantities sold.

Other ideas, for buying kitchen appliances and/or kitchen necessities is believe it or not is Targets end cap displays…they have some good household stuff CHEAP on those displays. Also, ALWAYS, ALWAYS first check the clearance racks at ANY department store or discount retailer, such as Big Lots, TJ MAXX, Marshalls, Ollie’s, K-mart or even JCPenneys. I have found unbelievable deals on the clearance racks at these stores. I mean really cheap. It’s hit and miss, but it’s worth the look, if you are there or looking for something you need.

My Fiance is a chef, and he has taught me many ways to keep our food budget in check and make cheap food taste good…as well as different recipes that can feed a family without breaking the bank.

Soups, stews, casseroles, are all good, healthy ways to feed a family.

Also, instead of buying fancy drinks and sodas, water is always a great option. If your tap water is not that good, I don’t suggest buying bottled, but rather get a pitcher style water purifier. THEY are a one time investment of under $20 and the filters usually run around 5-8 bucks, and only need replacing every 60 days. So if you do the math, they are well worth the money for decent drinking water.

OK Cher…that was a pretty depressing run down for a Saturday night!

The two articles that REALLY got me, were the one about the automated trolls and the taxes. I new that big business doesn’t pay taxes, but every time I see those articles…my blood pressure rises substantially!

I don’t know if there really is so many opportunities.

Back in the 50’s, 60’s or even to the 70’s and early 80’s ONE DID not need a masters degree to get most jobs. NOR did one need to have a specialized degree in order to try different careers.

In addition, it was easier to start a small business back then as well…today with so many Multinational corporations controlling everything, it’s difficult to raise the capital required to compete in most businesses and the cost of entry can be quite substantial these days. AND then there is the issue of staying in business and being able to compete…economies of scale, make that difficult today as well.

I guess that was what I meant by lack of opportunities. WHILE for one with MEANS there are a plethora of opportunities in today’s world, those who DON’T have the means(the majority) are not as blessed.

Excellent point about the lack of community these days, as well as the focus of individualism at the expense of all else.

That was a great point. The self imposed isolation of our current social culture, probably is at the heart of much of what is wrong.

You really got me thinking with those points. Perhaps, by isolating people and taking the focus OFF people, we have created a false sense that things aren’t really about people. We use words and phrases that take the focus off people and instead place the focus on the THING or the outcome or the concept. WE don’t talk about the human impact of actions and behaviors.

For an example of what I mean…let’s look at the concept of a corporation. A corporation is a paper entity…a man made construct. HOWEVER, it is RUN BY PEOPLE! PEOPLE make the decisions for the corporation…yet how many times do PEOPLE make comments that seem to NEGLECT the fact that PEOPLE are in charge of what a business does?

OR how about economics…we don’t talk about the impact of the real human toil of economic policies…we generalize and use conceptual theories and words that takes the focus OFF the actual HUMAN needs that economic policy is supposed to address.

WE have dehumanized ourselves…in so many ways. It’s troubling.

I agree that is very hard to do. Your father’s story was a great example.

For myself, I’m trying to find that…and am hitting obstacles for many of the reasons I outlined in my article.

Sadly, our society has evolved to a point, that it is quite difficult, in today’s day for many to actually pursue what their lives purpose really should be, due to our economic situation and the need to survive. Granted it’s NOT impossible of course, but VERY difficult.

I think other generations had more opportunities to pursue vocations than today. THAT is a problem.

Excellent points Khirad. I tend to agree that true selflessness is rather rare…as motives for behavior can on the surface APPEAR selfless, but if one digs deeper, there is a selfish reason for the action.

Although, as a mother and from my interaction with other moms, mothers (I’m not as sure if fathers are the same) often do make many sacrifices for their children and many times (not always) they are of a selfless nature.

CL….I hope you are right that we can sustain it!

I’ve been told by some, that I’m such a downer…and that I am too critical. BUT in my mind, how can we fix things or attempt to fix things if we just keep sweeping the broken pieces under the rug and ignoring that these problems really exist? It doesn’t serve any useful purpose to look at the world through rose covered glasses.

An honest assessment IS required if we ever hope to make the world a better place.

Why do we have to accept that this is how it is? The French peasants in during the age of Louis the XVI didn’t accept the status quo, neither did the founders of this nation, nor more recently the Egyptians.

Just because this is how things ARE, today, doesn’t mean they have to STAY that way.

AND I am sick of accepting the status quo…I for one DO not accept that this is HOW things have to be. I’m tired of the way things are…especially in business today. It’s fucked up!
