bito, If you eat at soup kitchens and dumpsters, everything we do is pointless to you. The journey and the destination are meaningless. The very fact there are so many poor and homeless in the richest country in the world makes every argument we have on ANYTHING a fucking farce. Why even bring that up?

If you feel like you got a fair shot at your dream, put everything you had into it, exhausted every possibility, and still came up short

Could you walk away satisfied that you at least had a real chance and enjoyed the ride, or would you be be constantly reminded of the failure? That you were there and just couldn’t reach out and grab it.

I would be content. All anyone deserves is a fair chance. And I’m still a “the journey is more important than the destination” kind of guy. If I succeed, great. If not, there are no regrets.

Barry Bonds deserves to be in the Hall of Fame. He has the numbers,pre and post steroid use to back it up. He was racking up gold gloves and hitting trophies long before someone put a needle in his ass.

And so he wanted to take steroids to extend his career. I can’t blame him. And neither can most baseball players as reports seem to indicate that steroid use is rampant. So, if the pitchers are juicing, hwo can we condemn the hitters.

The whole steroid era needs to be looked at differently. Maybe separately. Just like the pre-modern era. Before integration. babe Ruth was great, but did he play against black players? Japanese? Latino? did any “great” from that era? No, no, and no.

Substance abuse and performance enhancement has been apart of baseball for along time. From pill popping in the 60’s and 70’s to the steroid use of the 90’s and today.

Baseball says their records are sacred but how can they be if they have NEVER been fairly contested? Bonds is a scapegoat because of his attitude. And like McGuire, Clemens, Palmero and everyone else, he is a sacrificial lamb from baseball execs to cover their own asses.

So I was watching the movie “Confederate States of America”, a mockumentary in which the South won the “North’s War of Aggression”, and established the Confederate States of America. Though it relied far too heavily on hit and miss racial humor, it was a pretty well done production, chronicling an alternate time line.

Some highlights,

Lincoln is caught and arrested while wearing black-face in an attempt to escape to Canada on the Underground Railroad. He is then exiled to Canada.

CSA leaders meet with Hitler in America during what would have been WW2(which we sat out of) and attempt to strike a deal with him by tempting him with our slave labor force. European allies defeat Hitler, ending those plans but we still deal with Japan. The CSA worries about Japan’s expansionism and launches a sneak attack on their major naval base. That’s right. Reverse Pearl Harbor.

The Democratic and Republican parties are reversed. Or I guess you could say they never changed. Republicans still support freedom and abolition and Democrats still support property rights and the dehumanization of non-whites. Republican Presidential candidate John F. Kennedy defeats Democratic candidate Richard Nixon. Kennedy calls for a new frontier in which all are free and equal. His story still ends the same way.

After the explosion of “slave culture”, in music, film, and literature, many artists fled to Canada to escape the CSA’s harsh censorship and banning of non-white literature and entertainment. Elvis Presley becomes a world famous, legendary entertainer. In Canada.

The CSA blames Canada for poisoning their country and builds a huge wall along the border. The CSA enters a Cold War with Canada. To prevent us from attacking Canada, the diplomatic body that serves as the UN in their reality(sans America), forces heavy sanctions on America.

It ends with a controversy in which one of the contributors to the “documentary” is also planning to run for President and it is discovered that he has black heritage. After which he is forced to stare his own bigotry in the face.

Then a shot of school children reciting the pledge of allegiance. “… with liberty and justice for all, white people.”

A pretty creepy movie to say the least.

KQ, Allow me to dispute that.

9/11 was carried out by Saudis, Egyptians, and UAE men who were trained in PAKISTAN and funded in Germany by Saudi Arabia and Yemen.

We went into Afghanistan because we thought Bin Laden was in the hills on the Pakistan border. And because we can’t exactly invade Pakistan(though they seem to be changing course on that lately).

He “escaped”. But that’s o.k. because now we are just there to “spread freedom”. The Taliban did not attack us. No one in Afghanistan did. They were merely “shielding” the people who did, after the fact.

And I am not rewriting history. I remember the last decade quite well.

We didn’t officially declare war on Iraq that first time? I did not know that. I thought that we had. Well, that does change things a bit doesn’t it?

I had always thought Vietnam was illegal. Talk about being lied into an invasion. Korea was just as dubious in my opinion. Bay of Pigs, a fucking disaster. And illegal.

So, yeah, I guess we were. And I guess this is just the continuation of it. But we gotta stop calling them wars. It gives them a cache and perceived legal weight they don’t deserve.

One more thing that I’ve been thinking about today.

Agree or disagree:

The actions in Afghanistan are not a war. We invaded and seized a sovereign nation with the intent of regime change and pacification through military force.

Where it an actual war, it would have lasted 2 days and ended with half the country being burned to glass.

Since this is not a war, nor was war ever officially declared, do all the Constitutional restrictions on Bush and Obama apply? Can they actively bomb, torture, and imprison,regardless of Constitutional mandate and recognized international law?

As long as Congress continues to fund these activities, are they illegal at all?

And not “Obama-Care”? Isn’t that shorting Romney’s contribution to so many thankful families in Massachusetts?

Surely Romney would want to frame his whole campaign around how awesome Romney-Care is. Am I missing something?

I sure do. After you end the Bush tax cuts, end the wars, make all your little cuts, we’ll STILL be in a hole.

Then what? It wasn’t a malaise speech. It’s the fucking truth.

The “budget problem” is OUR fault. And we want to share no sacrifice in correcting it? That’s not good policy, that’s vote pandering.

But I eventually want to move toward eliminating the income tax all together. AFTER we solve our problems.

KQ, I would ask the same question as the article, but with less snark.

When is he going to bring up tax increases on the middle class? He’s not. Last I heard he wants to keep cuts on the middle class. That’s not gonna work.

So, really, no one is being honest about the economy. The day Obama says we are calling in the bills and gives America the speech Carter tried to give them, we can start having the real debate about the economy.

That’s a pretty misleading pie graph. Where it says, “Corporate Taxes” it should point out that this just includes the corporations that bothered to pay the taxes they owe

But I do agree that the tax code needs a complete overhaul and our budget problem isn’t as simple as tax the rich.
