Abby, As much as I love and agree in spirit with what you are proposing, i just don’t know if we should cater to a generation that is slowly making us all stupider.

The answer the trivia question was indeed C, Gandhi.

Gandhi believed in non-violence above all but on several different occasions encouraged people to defend their homes.

He wanted to win through non-violent means but he also did not want to lose India. He did not promote violence. But he did promote a sovereign India.

Well, we are running out of places to bury our nuclear waste. And if Yucca Mountain is a predetermined dump site, oh well.

If they block the dumping, then what? Some other place is gonna get it. And on and on and on.

But they should calm down. Both democrats and republicans are pushing for more nuclear energy. Soon we’ll all be within 100 miles of a toxic dump.

I think local government should be running the cleanup with the federal government assisting them. The federal government can provide better logistics but the local government does indeed know the area and people better.

I thought the President came off pretty good. Like Clinton and Reagan he can tailor himself to fit any audience. A valuable quality to have if you’re President.

And, like the President, I wish they had the time to have gotten into energy a little more. I think that is Obama’s next big thing. He keeps bringing it up over and over again. But will we see something start this year or will he wait for re-election? I hope it’s soon but I do very much understand the politics involved in waiting til you are cemented into that office.

Last week, on The Daily Show, they had a joke about the future of Republican health care being a giant robot that beats poor and old people to death with a copy of The Fountainhead.

It’s one of the best jokes I’ve ever heard. Whoever wrote it needs a raise.

I know we are all rational people here. And everything that goes with that.

But here’s my question.

Which would you be more apt to believe?

The existence of ghosts or the existence of psychic abilities. ESP, mind reading,fortune telling, yada yada yada.

I know that many will answer neither BUT for the sake of argument, say one was somehow proven true tomorrow. Which would your money be on? Some peripheral form of existence after death, or the ability to use extraordinary brainwaves to manipulate time and space?

Honestly, I’d bet ghosts over psychics as the one proven correct.

We should elect a leader. A single leader. That individual is in office for life barring removal by a recall election.

But while in office, that individual has complete authoritarian rule of the country. Hear me out here. If we were judging how high I am on a scale of 1 to “look how big my hands are”, I’d only be at, “that dog has funny ears”(6).

I’m not talking about totalitarianism, there is a difference. There will still be states rights decisions and individual freedoms. Most of the government would run almost exactly as it does now but one man or woman would have the final decision on all issues of national importance. Anything that is in the power of the federal government to decide. A veto-like device will be in place but it will require a large majority of people to veto it.

I believe this will accomplish two things:

1.)Get more people involved in voting and affairs of the nation.

B.)Get. Shit. Done.

I realize there are holes in this plan. But monarchy’s don’t work and neither does democracy. We STILL aren’t ready for a true democracy. I’m trying to find a happy middle.

There are things I recognize as needing treatment but I just feel we retreat to the pills far too often.

I recently had a conversation with my mom that led to talking about people who get way too excited and do crazy things. They’re not crazy. Just, at that moment, WAY too excited.

I brought up Tom Cruise on Oprah and the whole couch jumping incident. The man just got way too excited. He had just got engaged and he was selling it way too hard. And whether you believe it was because he was being too enthusiastic to cover up that he might be gay, who cares, and it is still just him getting way too excited.

But what gets lost in that is his talk show appearances to promote War of the Worlds in which he got into his thoughts on psychiatry and the way psychiatrists over medicate their patients. And even further to talk about parents doping up their kids to make them “manageable”.

And, I gotta say, I was right behind him. I know depression is a real thing. That it is purely psychological almost like a phobia and people really truly just can’t help it. But far too many times people are just prescribed whatever trendy drug is available at the time and sent on their way.

Me and my brother were pretty rowdy kids. My brother especially. We did things that drove our grandparents crazy. But they would have never drugged us. My grandpa was a teacher and he had kids that very easily would have been diagnosed with ADD. He got them through just fine.

But is it just drug companies who do routinely develop bullshit medical conditions(restless leg syndrome? are you fucking kidding me?) and quickly supply a new pricey drug for them, or have we developed a dependency on solving shit with a pill and the demand more than justifies the supply?

I encourage everyone to watch The Daily Show’s piece on Dennis Kucinich. It was hilarious and brings up a great question,

How? How does he keep beating Republicans election after election in Ohio?

As John Oliver said to one Republican, “Either he’s superhuman or you guys are just that terrible.”

The Republican response? “We’ll have to look into that.”

Go get’em Denny. If they take away your district go take another one from them.
