I’ve met folks from Mississippi when they travel up for football or basketball games and a few that call Kentucky home now. You seem like good people. Kentucky has some pretty shameful moments in it’s past when it comes to race and there are still pockets of it, especially back home in east Kentucky, but I like to think we’ve come pretty far from state sponsored Klan rallies. Their influence isn’t even felt in this state anymore and that is a great thing. I think my grandpa is what kept me from becoming the bigot so many other kids I knew turned out to be. He had traveled the world in the military and met so many different kinds of people and realized they were just like him. I picked up racial slurs from my friends and he immediately set me straight on that shit. Though we do many unhealthy things I just wonder why smoking is always picked on. If people choose to smoke, knowing it may kill them, how is that a problem? Who am I to ordain how another will live their life? And stopping smoking involves a simple change in behavior too. Just saying it’s hard to quit is no justification to not quit. I heard that for years from my brother’s wife. But one day she decided to take it seriously and she quit. As did many many other people I know.
