Klobuchar is a very solid, smart and strong Dem. Her one weak spot is that she opposes universal healthcare, she wants the ACA to continue but be improved. Not a terrible issue for her but some Progressives may hesitate a little on that.

escrib – I’ve been concerned that the Dems, up until 2018, were an aging party that weren’t bringing up the next gen of Dems. I want to support the ones we now have and see them grow into leadership positions (watching all these old Dems and Repubs ask dumb questions when Mark Zuckerberg was at a hearing was embarassing). Dems needed to reinvigorate their ranks and 2018 helped with that in a big way. I know AOC can be a bot much at times but overall, I see her as one of those who are the future of the Dems…tempered just a little as they gain more wisdom and experience.

glenn – Hillary was a problematic candidate, with negatives at the start that were as high as Trump’s and an establishment vibe that wasn’t what energized the younger voters that Dems need. But she would have won if not for Comey and the Russians. This time, we will have a candidate with little baggage and we’ll be prepared for the Russian invasion into our election and beat it just as we did in 2018.

PPO – Yes, I think Beto could be among the few candidates who could really energize the Dem base…but we have to know more about him and see how he handles himself in the primary. I’m going to support multiple candidates. My faves so far are Beto, Warren and Klobuchar (who hasn’t announced yet) but I am open to others. And I will be 200% behind whoever becomes the nom.

Escrib – Charisma is important in a Dem winning the WH. Bill Clinton had it, Obama had it. Dems like to fall in love with their candidate and feel excited about them. In the Dem primary, someone who was more reserved would have a hard time.

What kind of bothered me about Harris is that over the past 2 years, following her on Twitter, she ignored many of the current issues to make “safe” political statements that seemed obvious in positioning herself for running in 2020. I don’t fully trust she is who she represents herself to be.

Good point and one I’ve seen others making (even Harris supporters!). We should be honest and really get to know and criticize any Dem candidates but the focus should be on promoting the ones we prefer and not trying to trash the ones we don’t. I won’t tolerate Dems trying to savage other Dem candidates just to make way for their fave.

I can’t wait for whoever the nom is to debate Trump (or Pence). By 2020, many economists think we may be in a softer economy or even recession. Without the economy, what does Trump or Pence have to run on? A massively growing deficit? A divided and hostile country? Greater poverty and less people with health insurance? A wall?
