Vox Populi, our weekly live chat about the week’s events, begins tonight at 7:00pm PDT. Don’t know what happened this week that we will talk about but we can always debate it. Hope to see you then!

Hey slm!
AdLib2 hours ago
hey ad
sillylittleme
The real event yesterday wasn’t the debate IMO, it was Jon Stewart’s last show.
AdLib2 hours ago
the ending was great.
sillylittleme
Hard to believe he’s gone from my tv now.
AdLib2 hours ago
I especially loved watching John Hodgman record Bruce Springsteen up close.
sillylittleme
He’ll be back in some form after a nice long rest. Seinfeld will guide him.
sillylittleme
I expected all the folks from the past to show up, he was hardly able to hold himself together.
AdLib2 hours ago
I think he’ll focus now on directing films.
AdLib2 hours ago
Amazing the number of stars he created
sillylittleme
So true! A real reunion show.
AdLib2 hours ago
It’ll be interesting to see how Trevor Noah does, he has an interesting take on the world
sillylittleme
not much to add here……never watched him…..

Hey Murph
sillylittleme
Hi SLM
MurphTheSurf3
Hi Ad Lib
MurphTheSurf3
Murph – You have heard of him, though?
AdLib2 hours ago
Ad, I have watched moments from the show, lifted by others…..
MurphTheSurf3
Hey glenn
sillylittleme
slm – Yep, Trevor seems a bit more reserved but I’ll give him a while to click.
AdLib2 hours ago
Hi glenn…
MurphTheSurf3
Hi glenn!
AdLib2 hours ago
Ad – his humor is a bit dryer. He won’t be giggling at his own jokes…
sillylittleme
slm – I remember when Colbert started his show, I thought he was a bit stiff but as time went by, he became great.
AdLib2 hours ago
Hi Ad, SLM, Murph. Jon Stewart has left the building. A nice tribute to him airing now on MSNBC.
glenn
Ad – true but that was the character he played
sillylittleme
glenn – Yes, have it on in the background now but recording it to watch later.
AdLib2 hours ago
I fear that I am a …… in regard to political and social comedy.
MurphTheSurf3
slm – I meant as a performer, Colbert was a bit shaky about starring in his own show but as he got comfortable, he became amazing.
AdLib2 hours ago
Ad–good idea to record it; that way you’ll have it to watch more than once, if you’re so inclined.
glenn
Not at all Murph, just a big fan myself of Stewart and Colbert.
AdLib2 hours ago
Murph–perhaps, but you’re spot on in the real word of politics and socialability.
glenn
Ad – agree, just that Jon sometimes had a hard time getting a line out because he was laughing at himself. From what I’ve seen about Trevor his style is different. I think he’ll kinda fantastic, actually
sillylittleme
Thanks glenn and ad.
MurphTheSurf3
Love that they replay his takedown of Jim Cramer, it was amazing.
AdLib2 hours ago
SLM–I agree about Trevor. I’m looking forward to a fresh view of American politics. Not that Stewart was stale; just that I think Trevor will bring a different perspective.
glenn
Hello PPO…
MurphTheSurf3
Hey PPO, how are you?
glenn
‘Morning all. Hangovers all gone?
pinkpantheroz
slm – That’s a comic’s thing, they laugh at their jokes to kind of encourage an audience to do so as well.
AdLib2 hours ago
Hey Pink
sillylittleme
Ad – maybe true, just Jon seems to be remembering what it took to construct that joke and is having a private laugh
sillylittleme
slm – I am expecting to be won over by Trevor.
AdLib2 hours ago
So…c’mon guys, speaking of comedy, views on last night’s debate? Sorry I couldn’t make the live blog, so I’d like to hear your thoughts.
glenn
Hey PPO! I think it’s called a Foxover.
AdLib2 hours ago
Have they figured out yet who’s the biggest Loser from last night?
pinkpantheroz
PPO…..and all…I was in Indianopolis last night for the quarter finals of the Drum Corps International World Championship. NO hang over….happy as a clam.
MurphTheSurf3
Glenn – I kept having to smoke more pot, nothing was funny about it
sillylittleme
Murph–do your ears hurt?
glenn
Murph – so envious, that musta been so much fun
sillylittleme
SLM–there was no way I was going to watch those fools. I figured I”d be able to catch the clips, and that would be enough! And…BTW, I was correct. Just watching christie brag/lie about 9/11 on the clip I saw was enough.
glenn
glenn – The biggest news from the debates is that Fox News now owns the GOP’s nominating process.
AdLib2 hours ago
He looked like an overcooked Twinkie. There was way too liberal a use of tanning spray last night.
sillylittleme
Glenn…It was glorious…..15 fantastatic 15 minute shows by some of the nicest young people ever.
MurphTheSurf3
Hey Sabreen
sillylittleme
Ad–except that’s not news. As soon as fn announced their “criteria” for the debate, it was known that fn owned the gop nominating process.
glenn
Murph–seriously, those kids work hard and some of their formations are fantastic!
glenn
SLM…fun…hardly the word. I used to teach at a University that hosted DCI regional competititons and got to know them there……
MurphTheSurf3
I thought it was horrid the way they tried to get them to bicker with one another and ultimately not discuss any important issue.
sillylittleme
Hi folks. Just stopped by to say hi. I really enjoyed last night’s analysis of the Republican debate of all those intellectuals.
Sabreen60
Glenn….and the music is ethereal.
MurphTheSurf3
The debates were just more Fox reality tv. The “moderators” just asked the most personal attacking questions they could, asked pro-Republican, anti-Dem questions and challenged all of them to stand by the party line. No substantial questions on policy, what they would actually do if elected President. Fox has defined the primaries as a reality tv series.
AdLib2 hours ago
Murph – One of my friends is really into it and the incredible discipline it takes is amazing
sillylittleme
SLM…..I am astounded that it goes on and on and on….but it has a powerful life of its own…the music, the dance, the costuming and the raw energy.
MurphTheSurf3
Ad – I did think Ben Carson’s assessment that the Ds didn’t have a candidate, the height of R projection
sillylittleme
Sabreen – I would say that the GOP has fallen in the gutter but they would need a ladder to climb up into it.
AdLib2 hours ago
slm – Rubio also claimed the Dems can’t field a single decent candidate. Yep, he said that with Donald Trump center stage.
AdLib2 hours ago
Ad – Rubio doesn
sillylittleme
t stand a chance at squat
sillylittleme
SLM-saw a Sanders tweet today that says no talk about climate change, income inequality, Citizens United, or student debt. But, we know how and why trump became a republican; how to wage war on both women and Iran, and other important “stuff”.
glenn
The bottom line is that every single one of them holds multiple stands that are offensive to the majority of voters. Ending abortion completely, even when the life of the mother is at stake? Refusing citizenship to 11 million Latinos? Crushing Obamacare and taking health care away from 11 million Americans?
AdLib2 hours ago
Glenn – I still think his whole candidacy is an art school project, plus I read on Kos today that Bill Clinton talked Trump into running (don’t know if it was snark or not)
sillylittleme
Ad–I think the bottom line for me about this debate is we learned NOTHING new. Same old, same old.
glenn
glenn – They mentioned Black Lives Matter to (of course) the black candidate only…and Carson responded by calling all black people the true racists for claiming there is still racism being used against them. Wow.
AdLib2 hours ago
Ad – he went to the Frank Luntz school of how to win friends and influence people
sillylittleme
hey choice
sillylittleme
Eveing all – nice to see you. Hi SLM – good to see you again tonight!
choicelady
Hi CL. Hope you got some rest.
Sabreen60
SLM–Sanders’ candidacy? Or trump’s? To be more clear, Clinton’s version is that he encouraged trump to take a more active role in republican politics. BTW, how sad is it that trump admits that he had to pay Hillary Clinton to attend his wedding? Seems to me, that says a lot more about trump than it does about Hillary.
glenn
Hi Sabreen – yes finally. Long icky drive yesterday, but rested up now.
choicelady
Hey Sabreen, hey CL
glenn
glenn – I thought that wedding comment was pathetic!
choicelady
Glenn – Trump, both art school and the other rumor
sillylittleme
Glenn – well they did take the money…
sillylittleme
SLM – I’m lost – art school? Are we saying The Donald is gay?
choicelady
slm – Yes, looks like the Clinton camp leaked that info about Bill’s call with Trump, encouraging him to run. The TrumpLumps supporting him don’t care about anything though, facts, truth, nothing. They are mindless supporters of his.
AdLib2 hours ago
Hey CL!
AdLib2 hours ago
Hey back atcha, AdLib!
choicelady
Choice – no, that it is a stunt
sillylittleme
CL–If you have to tell the world that you have to pay someone to attend your wedding, then it’s more than pathetic; but I don’t know what word covers it; so pathetic works.
glenn
SLM – if it’s The Donald, it’s a stunt.
choicelady
Choice – exactly
sillylittleme
glenn – that’s a good question: what’s more pathetic than pathetic?
choicelady
pathetically pathetic?????
sillylittleme
AdLib – I’ll say it again. Carson has lost his marbles. I read his autobiography many years ago. Even gave it to my son to read. It was a really good read. I sincerely believe his close encounter with death, the extreme chemo and radiation affected his brain. I’m really serious. Some of the crazy that comes out of his mouth is not something a sane person would say.
Sabreen60
SLM – that works!
choicelady
glenn – So true! You’re supposed to have the public think the Clintons wanted to come because you’re important, not that they don’t want to be at your wedding but came because they owed a favor for a contribution.
AdLib2 hours ago
CL–abhorrent? humiliating? Or one of my favorite expressions–“gag me with a spoon?”
glenn
Sabreen – I think you’re correct. Had a CPA who did taxes who, after something the same, filed the wrong people’s taxes for us, and it took us 3 years to get it unsnarled. She just lost it.
choicelady
Sabreen – I’m still confused how being a brain surgeon is training to be POTUS
sillylittleme
glenn – Valley Girl Speak has a good role in this kind of discussion!
choicelady
Sabreen–Have to agree about carson.
glenn
SLM – well Carson portrays himself as a businessman who obviously therefore knows everything.
choicelady
Choice – so brain sugery is a business??
sillylittleme
My best memory of the debacle was Trump’s calling out on, of all things, campaign contributions and then telling all that each of the other candidates had received money from him! Also that, like all the other 1%, he expects a quid pro quo down the line.
pinkpantheroz
Sabreen – Carson’s ramblings defy any other explanation. How anyone with an education could say the things he does…only brain damage makes sense to me.
AdLib2 hours ago
SLM and CL–I think you’re missing the point. The standard to be a republican candidate for president is to be a rich hypocrite.
glenn
SLM – when you’re a RW doofus, yes. Medicine is a business.
choicelady
glenn – ah, I see you’re going for the GLOBAL assessment of GOP standards. It works! Rich hypocrite. Yup.
choicelady
Pink – that was funny, Rand was trying to make a point. Trump pointed to him and said I gave him money. It was like a comedy routine
sillylittleme
All – the overwhelming sense I have about the GOP is that vulgarity on all levels has swept the party.
choicelady
slm – It’s not training. The man is wacko. Plus he’s not practicing any more. Hell, the students at Johns Hopkins didn’t want him to speak at their commencemen.t
Sabreen60
PPO – Trump really laid bare that the wealthy own politicians and what was sad and funny is that other candidates started begging him for money after he said that!
AdLib2 hours ago
Ad–since I didn’t watch the debate, and I’m having trouble watching some of the clips, what did the others say to beg trump for money?
glenn
AdLib – will there be irony if we challenge Citizens United because of THE DONALD???
choicelady
CL – You’ve put your finger on the key adjective for the GOP primary, it is The Vulgarity Olympics.
AdLiban hour ago
CL – If he’s so successful as a businessman, why did he lose his partial in his grits? Why not implants. He actually spoke with missing teeth. I saw the picture.
Sabreen60
Ad–does that make the candidate the Village Vulgarians?
glenn
Would anyone want a POTUS who would be prepared to file Chapter 11 on the USA to avoid debts, and then be proud of screwing his creditors?
pinkpantheroz
AdLib – we are only inches away from scatological references. Only the GOP fear of women keep that aspect relatively clean. Not in policy but language.
choicelady
glenn – Answering a question about what he got from Hillary for giving her money, Trump said she came to his wedding. Then he talked about how he’s donated to many of the people on stage, then some of them started “jokingly” asking him for more money. So ridiculous and pathetic.
AdLiban hour ago
BRB
Sabreen60
Sabreen – he’s above “image” y’know.
choicelady
Good Friday evening, kids! Have your brains all recovered from last night’s Odyssey in Crudeness? Where did they bus that debate audience in from? Those were not Clevelanders!
kesmarn
KES!!!!! How are you?
choicelady
Hey Kes
sillylittleme
Hey Kes–how goes it?
glenn
Kes! Great to see you!
AdLiban hour ago
Kes – I know Cleveland. You’re quite correct – those were NOT Clevelanders at all!
choicelady
Hey, kes! Just finishing cleaning out my mouth from the foul tase left over.
pinkpantheroz
Doing well all! A few issues with the 93 year old Dad, but other than that– OK!
kesmarn
kes – if you’re Dad is 93, he has a right to have issues. Not easy on YOU, but certainly something he’s earned!
choicelady
I think they brought in every Klansman from a 200 mile radius to cheer for The Donald there.
kesmarn
Does anyone think that Fox failed to isolate Trump?
pinkpantheroz
glenn – Maybe it makes the Repubs “Vulgans’ from the planet of the same name. “Live long and prosper…from crushing the majority!”
AdLiban hour ago
kes – if you watched the audience, the cheering and whooping was highly varied. So you may well be correct about if not the Klan, certainly the Minutemen!
choicelady
Right, c’lady! We’re really lucky he’s still as active as he is at his age.
kesmarn
PPO – Fox failed to isolate The Donald.
choicelady
AdLib – too funny!
choicelady
Huckabee described the whole GOP: “We kill people and break things.”
kesmarn
CL – I think scatological is unavoidable, where else can the GOP go now?
AdLiban hour ago
kes – I could NOT believe he said that because it was honest!
choicelady
Ad – full on poo flinging?
sillylittleme
PPO–I think fox’s tactics backfired. I think they just made trump more popular. After all, he’s now the “victim” because kelly was picking on him. Nothing the repub base likes better than a whining, white victim. If you’re black, of course, you’re not a victim, you’re a thug, even if you have a PHd.
glenn
Down Under, I was only able to hear the debate online on radio, not see the audience. Sounds as if I got the better deal!
pinkpantheroz
It was. The person who worries me is Kasich. Looks rational and genial. But totally KOCH!
kesmarn
Glenn – I too think it was a mistaken tactic.
sillylittleme
AdLib – they are out of alternatives. The Donald “I’d date my daughter” has lowered the discourse along with his refusal to be politically correct. That means he refuses to respect people who are not follically challenged white Billionaires, and that stinks a wad.
choicelady
glenn, I think pitting Megyn against Trump is a variation of “King Kong vs. Godzilla” They deserve each other.
kesmarn
kes – I do NOT think Kasich did well at all so not to worry. Walker was a dud, too. The Koch brothers bought them some dull candidates.
choicelady
Kes – true, but his talking points don’t match reality in OH
sillylittleme
PPO – I think Fox ultimately failed at axing Trump from frontrunner status and started a feud that will (hopefully) tear apart the GOP even more, especially if things go to plan and they hand the nom to Jebby. I smell revolt.
AdLiban hour ago
Ad, Good!
pinkpantheroz
Kes–I don’t think Kasic has a chance. He sounds reasonable and is willing to admit that gay marriage is the law of the land. Also, he accepted the Medicare funds for his state. So, he’s toast.
glenn
SO true, SLM! And C’lady I’m truly hoping your assessment is right — which is usually is!
kesmarn
AdLib – pundits (for all they know anything) state that Jeb! did very poorly. No one shined.
choicelady
glenn, from your lips to God’s ear!
kesmarn
Did anyone see any numbers on who won?
sillylittleme
Did you see PolitiFact registered Walker’s claim of a surplus a TOTAL pantsonfire LIE? They have a $1.6 billion DEFICIT in WI.
choicelady
Hiya kes!
Sabreen60
Kes – Very funny! Huckabee is going this Halloween as “The Wrath of a Vengeful God”.
AdLiban hour ago
Choice – ya I got that tweeted several times today
sillylittleme
I have this feeling that Jeb’s heart isn’t really in it. He doesn’t even look like he wants this thing. I think he was pressured into running.
kesmarn
HEY, Sabreen! How are you?
kesmarn
Ad–I think the gop will nominate someone other than trump. I’m hoping that trump stays with his promise to run as a third-party candidate to siphon off votes from repubs. That will almost guarantee 4 more years of a Dem president. Providing, of course, that the lazy Dem voters get off their asses and vote!
glenn
Did ANYONE think the panel’s request that all the candidates tell how their CHRISTIAN VALUES shaped their politics was not just WEIRD but hopelessly EVIL?
choicelady
LOL! AdLib — Huckabee as a latter day Jonathan Edwards is too funny!
kesmarn
CL–walker is a lying, union busting, POS, and he’s proud of it!
glenn
slm – Poo Flinging is actually the name of Donald Trump’s speechwriter.
AdLiban hour ago
kes – Huck is no J.Edwards. He is another vulgarian who distorts faith and panders to Mammon.
choicelady
Roll up, Roll up! See the Fat Christie standing on the Skinny Man’s Kock your eyes over here and see the Leopard with the 14 spots on his Willie clost the door theres a draught coming in from the elephant’s Hol(e)d your tickets for the next performance please!
pinkpantheroz
AdLib – Poo Flinging – does this mean The Donald hired an alien?
choicelady
Ad – LOL
sillylittleme
PPO!!!
choicelady
PPO–
glenn
He sure is, CL! When Trump was backed into a corner on religion all he could come up with a week or so ago was that he used to “drink the wine and eat the little cracker” back when. LOL! I guess that was supposed to be communion!
kesmarn
CL – Trump’s political incorrectness just cements his hateful base while cementing 70% of all voters against him. So, he can possibly win the GOP nom with it but instantly be disqualified from winning a GE.
AdLiban hour ago
BRB – smoko
pinkpantheroz
AdLib – someone I like a lot who is well educated thinks Trump is great because she hates undocumented immigrants. (I like her for other reasons, trust me there are many.)
choicelady
So … who IS going to eventually be the GOP candidate?
kesmarn
Kes–I think bush or walker.
glenn
BRB
glenn
Kes – McCain will take it at the convention. lol
sillylittleme
SLM -Too funny – but eerily possible.
choicelady
glenn, Walker wouldn’t surprise me. LOL! SLM, McCain! Too funny.
kesmarn
I do agree, Bush was hurt by a weak performance (he’s a lousy campaigner and debater) and Trump may be insulated from damage because Fox targeted him so obviously. The most terrible statement the GOP made yesterday is that Carly Fiorina won her debate because she was so nasty and called Hillary a liar. That is the yardstick the GOP uses for “How to be the best candidates”.
AdLiban hour ago
kes – I think Walker has all the charm of the back side of my thumb. I do NOT see him grabbing anyone’s attention.
choicelady
AD – Jeb! looks to me like he just wants to enjoy all his ill gotten gains and not have to deal with people.
sillylittleme
AdLib – if there is a vulgarian. Carly is it.
choicelady
CL – Glad that Walker is being shown up as a fraud and a liar. That should help his poll numbers with Repubs!
AdLiban hour ago
SLM – Hmmm. Running for President while ignoring the voters. It’s a new strategy OK.
choicelady
CL – The audience applauded Trump as he demeaned women.
Sabreen60
I still wonder if Kasich may be able to pull it off. Although the thing that makes him electable (his alleged — not real– moderate stance) is what the base hates the most.
kesmarn
What gets me is the MSM treating this fiasco as if it were a serious debate – talking about he was best, blah, blah, blah
Sabreen60
Sabreen – that little moment was despicable, yes. I thought Megyn Kelly finally did a good.
choicelady
I know, Sabreen! The media actually pretended to take this all seriously.
kesmarn
Sabreen – it is, has been, and long will be the worst part of American politics: the ignorant and venal MSM.
choicelady
A very interesting photo of Carly from the debate:
AdLiban hour ago
AdLib – all I see is a picture of a mountain with the sun over it. If you mean an empty suit…yup.
choicelady
And they complimented FOX on their “tough questions.” Look at all the questions they didn’t ask: about income inequality, gun violence, mass incarceration, ALEC, etc.
kesmarn
Coice – understatement
sillylittleme
kes – I actually thought the questions WERE tough, but they were also irrelevant issues.
choicelady
That’s the sun setting on Carly’s career.
kesmarn
One more time, photo of Carly from the debate last night:
AdLiban hour ago
kes – I heard that all the candidates KNEW the questions ahead of time. Borrowed Sarah’s “Palm Pilot” I guess.
choicelady
Choice…
sillylittleme
She is a Vulgan.
AdLiban hour ago
Exactly, CL! The questions were meant to bait the candidates. Not enlighten anyone.
kesmarn
Ad Lib….you are just so terrible….terribly funny…
MurphTheSurf3
Ad – Just vulgar
sillylittleme
AdLib – ahhhh. I’d say this was an insult to Vulcan women but yes, she’s a new breed – Vulgan indeed! Good on you for that!
choicelady
Hey Murph!!!
choicelady
That Vulcan has better make-up than Carly did…
kesmarn
CL – Trump can appeal to haters of all kinds but they are a minority.
AdLiban hour ago
AdLib – Oh lordy I hope so!
choicelady
Just want to add this before I leave. #DumpSchumer was trending on Twitter today. He got so much push back that he cancelled all his camera time – and you know how he loves the camera. Anyway this is a pretty good article from the Zizi at The Obama Diary:
Hi choice….I have been here a while just enjoying the conversation re. last night…I was in Indianapolis at the Drum Corps International Quarter finals. A far better choice than the debate
MurphTheSurf3
Wonder why my links are always cut off?
Sabreen60
Sabreen, I signed a petition condemning Schumer for his stand on the Iran treaty. What an awful thing to do.
kesmarn
Sabreen – that is great! Thank you. You off for the night and weekend? Good to see you, however briefly.
choicelady
Murph, was Marian University at the Drum Corps finals?
kesmarn
Sab…..I am very pleased you brought this up. Schumer is so in the backpocket of the Israeli Lobby that I think it should keep him from Leading the Dems in the Senate.
MurphTheSurf3
kes – I sent Reid an email saying that while Schumer has a right to his vote, he has made clear he does not support peace or the US and MUST be replaced as Senate leader.
choicelady
Kes – Kasich is not attractive to core Repubs. Supporting Obamacare, embracing gays, sounding reasonable? That’s not who they want. In a GE, he would present a challenge but I don’t see him getting the nom to get there. Also, the establishment would have to jettison Bush and no matter how weak he looks, they won’t.
AdLiban hour ago
Sabreen – Schumer’s type of politics is in sunset mode now. And not representative of any besides AIPAC
sillylittleme
Ad, all the better for Dems, but we need to organize and GOTV big time
pinkpantheroz
Kes….no the DCI units are organized by regions….not schools
MurphTheSurf3
Murph – remember I tangled w Barbara Boxer (she CALLED me) over an award she gave then pulled to a leader of CAIR here? She was in the AIPAC and Steve Emerson pocket and STILL is voting for the Iran agreement! Schumer has no excuse.
choicelady
I’m so relieved to read that AdLib! He looked formidable — but only to a rational person. I keep forgetting they have totally different standards.
kesmarn
Thanks for the info, Murph! (My old alma mater.)
kesmarn
Murph–I hope it keeps Schumer from leading the Senate Dems. What an appalling stance to take. To vote with Israel instead of the US is just ….I just can’t think of a word right now.
glenn
kes – #DumpSchumer was started because people don’t want him to be Senate Leader. He was wrong on Iraq; wrong on ObamaCare and now wrong on the Iran Deal. People on Twitter were absolutely livid. People were calling and emailing Reid all day.
Sabreen60
Schumer’s really terrible — no he shouldn’t be Senate Leader.

Sabreen – I am so opposed to Schumer, we need to push our Senators not to let him take the leadership role. He is an enemy of Progressives, opposing Obamacare, peace in Iran, pro-Iraq War…that’s who we want leading and whipping votes in his direction? No way!
AdLiban hour ago
Warren would make a great Senate leader!!!!
sillylittleme
She would, SLM>
kesmarn
SLM–there you go! Warren is the best!
glenn
Is Schumer a closet Republican?
pinkpantheroz
Appears so, PPO!
kesmarn
Pink – no just another blue dog, posing as a progressive…
sillylittleme
SLM – I think Warren is great but too narrowly focused, and Jan Schakowsky would be my pick, or her counterpart Al Franken.
choicelady
CL – Yes, even though it is annoying that Boxer had to mull it over, glad that she is supporting it. Schumer is too slaved to AIPAC to be able to make that decision.
AdLiban hour ago
I hate to duck out so soon, kids. But tomorrow’s going to be a long day. Hope you all have a great weekend!
kesmarn
SLM – Schumer is NOT a blue dog on most issues. Why he picks some to be an asshole over I will never know.
choicelady
Nite Kes
sillylittleme
G’nite, Kes. You have a great weekend, too!
glenn
Goodnight kes – glad to see you even if just for a bit. Have a great weekend!
choicelady
Choice – Franken would be an interesting choice, I like Jan too.
sillylittleme
I’d vote for an Al Franken/Jon Stewart Ticket!
pinkpantheroz
G’night, Kes
pinkpantheroz
Pink – That would be some ticket
sillylittleme
Good night Kes.
MurphTheSurf3

Schumer, as an NY senator, is a war monger puppet of AIPAC, an anti-regulations Wall Street puppet, and disloyal to the Democratic President. Yeah, let’s make him the Minority leader in the Senate!
AdLiban hour ago
Night Kes!
AdLiban hour ago
PPO – there you go! I have a ‘no celebs’ policy but Franken was the exception for his excellent policy analyses on Air America.
choicelady
My Senators Ben Cardin and Barbara Mikulski are sitting on the fence. When Bibi disrespected PBO and we called on Dems to speak out against it, Cardin responded to me that he respects Bibi. I understand Debbie Wasserman-Schultz may be a “no” vote, too.
Sabreen60
Sabreen–so cardin respects bibi more than the POTUS?
glenn
Could these traitors overturn the veto?
pinkpantheroz
Sabreen – sorry, but anyone buying Netanyahu’s 30 years of lies should get OUT of Congress. They represent the USA not Israel’s imperial policies and war mongering.
choicelady
Sabreen – They should all be taken out to the woodshed. It is a symbolic vote anyway. This is a multi-national treaty. Congress can only throw a tantrum
sillylittleme
AdLib – I so agree. People on Twitter told Reid that Senator Dick Durbin should have the spot.
Sabreen60
Choice – spot on
sillylittleme
Good night kes. Glad you were here!
Sabreen60
Sabreen – I’d be for that because Durbin has been very pro-Israel AND is smart enough to support the president.
choicelady
SLM–well this congress, especially the republicans, is getting very good at throwing tantrums. If only we had more adults in Congress!
glenn
glenn – what is this alien word “adults”?
choicelady
First, let me be clear that most American Jews and many Jewish organizations, even top Israelis including their President and intelligence officers, support this deal and President Obama. Understanding that, what is the justification for Dems who are Jewish giving their primary loyalty to another country? Really, Israel comes first before an unnecessary war with Iran that will kill thousands of American soldiers and bankrupt our nation?
AdLiban hour ago
Well, I’ve stayed to long at the dance. Hope to be here next week. Y’all take care ya hear
Sabreen60
Seeya, Sabreen!
AdLiban hour ago
AdLib – it is precisely the Jewish support for the agreement that makes it obvious it’s AIPAC.
choicelady
CL–it’s a rarely used word in Congress, along with “bipartisan” and “compromise”.
glenn
Good night Sabreen – lovely to see you!
choicelady
Ad – you took the words out of my mouth
sillylittleme
IMO the Iran/Israel problem is moot to the USA. Israel’s Mossad have more eyeballs in Iran that the US and would be quite ready to go to war themselves with a pre-emptive strike if an Iranian attack were imminent.
pinkpantheroz
Nite Sabreen
sillylittleme
glenn – gasp! Perfidy in these words!!!!
choicelady
G’nite Sabreen. Always good to chat with you.

Even lefty friends keep thinking the way to bring tyrants to heel is to expel them. NO! The way to bring them to heel is to INCLUDE them and surround them with both enticements and barriers to their worst actions. Keeping Iran in the international sphere is the ONLY way to keep their potential excesses contained.
choicelady
PPO–that’s what I don’t understand about this whole Israel argument. Israel has its own army, its own nuclear weapons, and a willingness to go to war. Why is bibi so afraid of the Iranians?
glenn
Choice – gold star for you
sillylittleme
As to the BS about Iran bombing Israel, can anyone explain why MADD wouldn’t apply to Iran but does apply to all other countries? A nuclear Iran would have more leverage in negotiating things but they would never use it or Israel and the US would wipe it off the map. But who needs logic when fear is more useful.
AdLiban hour ago
glenn – Bibi cannot go to war if there is peace with us and the EU nations. He wants to be FREE to bomb them to the stone age.
choicelady
Agree, cl. Think of so may countries whose ‘terrorist’ leaders became close allies – Kenya, Germany, Japan, India. You name it.
pinkpantheroz
Choice…wise words….bringing Iran into the community of nations and its people into the commonweal is THE exciter for change…yep.
MurphTheSurf3
AdLib – Iran obeys the international limts NOW more than does Israel.
choicelady
Ad – its a load of bull. Persians and Jews have a long, healthy history. This crap is MIC driven. Period.
sillylittleme
PPO – exactly. And look what happened to N. Korea when Bush blew them off? They are real tyrants but might NOT have been were they included in the international community.
choicelady
Ad–to repeat CL’s question. What is this word “logic” of which you speak?
Israel’s nuclear arsenal ???? The unspoken reality.
MurphTheSurf3
glenn – oh, duh. Got it, thanks!
choicelady
CL – Americans want to believe that pressing the red “Bomb!” button can just simply and quickly solve any international problem. Such flawed and simple thinking leads people to support dumb and dangerous propositions.
AdLiban hour ago
Murph – can
sillylittleme
AdLib – that and “bomb a Musim for Jesus’. Muslims have replaced commies.
choicelady
brb
pinkpantheroz
t talk about it, because then the US would have to reveal where they got the latest nuclear technology.
sillylittleme
CL–no problem. I don’t know all of the acronyms either.
glenn
glenn – that one I SHOULD remember!
choicelady
CL – Because when there are only a billion or so Muslims out there, we can bomb them all out of existence.
AdLiban hour ago
AdLib – and leave all the converted and good Jews and Christians totally unscathed, of course.
choicelady
Ad – we need to have an enemy, any one will do, the best are those of our own creation
sillylittleme
Ad–You know, in all this talk about Iran having a nuclear weapon, the US seems to forget that we are the ONLY country to have detonated an atomic bomb. And not just one, but two. It just blows my mind that we have the arrogance to say any other country can’t have nukes, when we are the only ones who have ever used our nuclear weapons!
glenn
SLM – yup. The Paranoid Style o American Politics.
choicelady
What I wish would happen is that Obama would continue to have public, televised conferences with Congress as he did on Obamacare so the people could here the lying Repubs and their BS and Dems and Obama could knock it all down in front of the American people.
AdLiban hour ago
Ad–and after we bomb them, we have created a million more people who will now hate the US.
glenn
AdLib – I think that may happen. Right now with everyone on vacation, it’s the informational dead zone.
choicelady
CL – How are things going on that Muslim Nuke, that only kills Muslims?
AdLiban hour ago
Oh Glenn – there you go again using facts
sillylittleme
glenn – well then we’ll just bomb THEM, traitors that they are.
choicelady
AdLib –
choicelady
CL–but when is Congress NOT on vacation?
glenn
Sorry -‘smart bombs’ and all.
choicelady
glenn – LOL! Good point. This time, for 17 days, it’s also the president.
choicelady
Ad – I think they call them drones…
sillylittleme
slm – We have an enemy already, the Kochs and the religious extremists and domestic terrorists. They’ll do.
AdLiban hour ago
SLM – I don’t think drones and nukes are very compatible…
choicelady
glenn – And if the RW had their way, we’d drop another nuke on Iran.
AdLib44 minutes ago
AdLib – problem with that group is they are the ones wanting to bomb the hell out of everyone and everyone INTO hell.
choicelady
Ad – yes they are, but we can handle two fronts
sillylittleme
Choice – micro everything is possible…
sillylittleme
SLM–sorry–sometimes I just can’t help myself with those pesky little facts.
glenn
CL – Hope it does, would really be good for our democracy to have more involvement of people in the process and more promotion of truth.
AdLib43 minutes ago
SLM – LOL! The image of a tiny nuclear explosion is kind of funny!
choicelady
Choice – because they live in a mental hell every day, hate does that
sillylittleme
SLM – indeed!
choicelady
Ad–I know. Dropping two bombs is just not enough. After all, why have those nukes sitting around doing nothing?
glenn
That’s what Repubs really want, Nuclear Drones!
AdLib42 minutes ago
AdLib – well they don’t need drones when there are entire countries to wipe out!
choicelady
glenn – Didn’t you know, bombing countries that cause problems makes the problems all go away!
AdLib42 minutes ago
AdLib – surrrrrre.
choicelady
Ad–oops–guess I haven’t learned that “lesson” yet. But I have learned that “we’re #1”! Is that good enough?
glenn
I really do think a law should be passed that requires those opposing peace treaties or voting for war, to have to have their kids drafted into the military.
AdLib40 minutes ago
AdLib – hell NO – THEY should be drafted, and I don’t give a damn if they’re old!
choicelady
CL – Works for me, draft them as well!
AdLib39 minutes ago
Ad–I’ve read that more than once lately. Let those who think bombing is the answer volunteer their families to lead the way! And CL is right–no age limit, either!
glenn
Right on, AdLib! No deferments either! Never mind that prostate problem!
choicelady
Choice – so agree!!!
sillylittleme
Choice – or an ass boil
sillylittleme
Can anyone really imagine what would happen if any Repub became President? War with Iran, another financial crash, an end to Welfare, Medicare and SS…how can any of them survive a GE?
AdLib38 minutes ago
No deferments for Ted Nugent no matter how crappy his pants!
choicelady
Choice – make him wear them for the entire war
sillylittleme
SLM – right! No deferments period!
choicelady
SLM – make him sleep alone in a tent. No use offending the regular troops. He has to be in solitary AND on the front lines.
choicelady
I think the Repubs controlling Congress hurts any Repub winning the Presidency. As long as the Dem nom and the DNC push the vision of all that would happen without a Dem President vetoing the Repub Congress, the Dems should win by a big margin.
AdLib36 minutes ago
Choice – he could be a human shield all by himself.
sillylittleme
SLM – pushed out in front w bayonets. We can issue gas masks to those doing the pushing.
choicelady
Choice – LOL!!!!!!
sillylittleme
AdLib – that is a very interesting observation. Like it.
choicelady
The Repubs use fear very successfully, the Dems could legitimately use it to describe the horrible future waiting for America if Repubs control Congress and the WH.
AdLib34 minutes ago
AdLib – if the Dems were organized, they’d do just that. Too many are wimps. Hope they get a spine before too long.
choicelady
And Nugent should have to wear a suit, not combat gear. He’s been wearing combat gear without being in the military, so he should wear a suit when he’s in the military.
glenn
My greatest fear remains the uninformed and disengaged electorate. I spent some time two days ago helping a women get health care for her husband’s daughter. She had no idea that CHP existed and then it turned out that she was not insured and ACA was perfect for her. If folks do not get this then how can we expect them to deal with matters far less directly impacting on their lives?
MurphTheSurf3
Glenn – a shitty suit that he has shat in
sillylittleme
AdLib – Murph showed what can happen when this confronts people directly in the Lysistrata ladies. People need to hear what can happen.
choicelady
CL – I’m just hoping at least a core group of Dems can help promote this legit result that a Repub WH would bring about. Of course, some cowardly Dems will run as Repub-Lite and others will tread lightly. But being aggressive on this would pay off big time.
AdLib32 minutes ago
Ad–and the Dems could point to the states like Kansas and Wisconsin who have massive deficits, teacher shortages (I know that’s not a negative in republican circles), and all kinds of problems. States that have republican majorities in both their legislatures and governorships.
glenn
SLM–goes without saying.
glenn
Murph – through people just like you. We had a guy come in for ACA who said he’d never been “in the system” and was resentful. My quip to him was “we’re sorry to break your perfect record, but now you’ll at least have health care!” It made him laugh, and he moved on. It’s that human engagement we MUST have, and you do it to perfection.
choicelady

AdLib30 minutes ago
Seeya PPO!
AdLib30 minutes ago
glenn – just saw the Nugent-in-a-suit recommendation. I so agree! And he needs to wear a tie.
choicelady
G’day PPO – lovely having you here.
choicelady
CL–a tie that’s a little too tight!
glenn
A bow tie!!
sillylittleme
glenn – well, of course! And it has to be a Windsor knot.
choicelady
SLM – that’d have to be hand tied, natch.
choicelady
glenn – Excellent point! Two states spiralling into terrible debt, damaging their infrastructure.
AdLib29 minutes ago
Have a g’day PPO
MurphTheSurf3

Well all, time on the road is still catching up with me, so I bid you all a good night. Hope to see you next Friday! Be well!
choicelady
Ad–and let’s not forget christie’s “leadership” where the state’s credit rating has been downgraded 7 times!
glenn

Nugent should have to ride a kamikazee drone into ISIS headquarters. Boom goes the dummymite!
AdLib28 minutes ago
Night CL!

glenn – But he said, “You should have seen it before!” in the debate, doesn’t that make it all okay?

choicelady
AD–“boom goes the dummymite”! Love it!
glenn
Ad–really–that’s his excuse? And was the state’s credit rating downgraded 7 times before he took office?
glenn
Glenn – don’t you understand he inherited a mess…
sillylittleme
What’s up?
KillgoreTrout
Hey KT
sillylittleme

Christie lies like a rug and is so evasive. He just evaded the facts so I’d guess things have been worse under him.
AdLib25 minutes ago
Hey slm!
KillgoreTrout
Hey KT!
AdLib25 minutes ago
SLM–and so the way to fix the mess is to get the state’s credit rating tank?
glenn
well, I am heading to bed….I conclude from tonight’s discussion that last night was every bit as much a desert as it appeared to be from Indianopolis.

Night Murph! You’re right, it was apparent.
AdLib24 minutes ago
I caught a little of the debate on youtube today. I could only stomach about 5 minutes of it and then had to turn it off. The stench of bullshit was just overpowering.
KillgoreTrout
KT – it was a grotesque display
sillylittleme
KT–I’m with you. Never watched it at all last night, and couldn’t watch any of the clips for more than 30 seconds!
glenn
I did, however, enjoy the final episode with Jon Stewart.
KillgoreTrout
KT – It was only an exercise in reality tv programming, little of it had to do with politics.
AdLib23 minutes ago
Or reality.
KillgoreTrout
My turn to say good night. Hope everyone enjoys the weekend. So, hello and good night to you, KT!
glenn
KT – That was the biggest and most important story last night, Stewart’s last show.
AdLib22 minutes ago
I did enjoy the laserlike death stare Megan Kelly gave trump, on his views of women.
KillgoreTrout

Night glenn!

KillgoreTrout
Have a great weekend slm. I hear Mass is thinking about legalizing rec pot. Very cool.
KillgoreTrout
KT – Yep, that was a wonderful end to the show. Hard to believe though that he’s gone now.
AdLib19 minutes ago
Yeah, he’ll be missed. If Jon has confidence in Noah, then he may be a decent replacement, but there is only one JS.
KillgoreTrout
Then too, TDS writing staff will still be on board.
KillgoreTrout
I’m intending to be won over by Trevor but he’s got to win me over. My initial impression is that he’s a bit reserved compared to Jon.
AdLib17 minutes ago
Well, time will tell. Jon was a bit shakey in the beginning. That’s why I have confidence in the writers.
KillgoreTrout
Colbert was shaky when he started out in his show but became amazing.
AdLib16 minutes ago
Salon has a wonderful piece by Patton Oswald who did a blow by blow tweet session during the debate. Pretty funny stuff.
KillgoreTrout
I like Larry Wilmore but he’s not as funny as Colbert.
AdLib15 minutes ago
I will check it out!
AdLib15 minutes ago
I’m looking forward to Colbert on the tonight show.
KillgoreTrout
Well folks, I just wanted to POP in for a moment. Have a great weekend folks.
KillgoreTrout
He’s going to be on CBS actually and I too am looking forward to it!
AdLib14 minutes ago
Take care KT, see you on the Weekend Music thread this weekend!
