Welcome to this weekend’s music thread, Planet folks. I thought that it was time for a tribute to an amazing Canadian/American artist that has contributed such a vast amount of great music to the world. If any singer, musician and song writer deserves
a tribute, it is definitely Neil Young.
Pick your favorite Neil Young songs (there are so many) performed by the man himself, some of the other groups he’s been a part of, and/or your favorite artists that do Neil Young cover songs. As always, have fun doing so and don’t forget to smile! 😉
I know this thread is getting a little old, but I had to put in my 2 cents.
Neil Young is the musician that made my junior and senior years in high school tolerable. His music fit my mood and youthful anxieties about our world at the time. And even without the social commentary, his guitar playing, especially with Crazy Horse, was superb – an ebbing and flowing wail of protest. I could, and did, listen to Cowgirl in the Sand, Southern Man, Only Love Can Break Your Heart, and whole album sides time and time again.
So yes, here’s to Neil Young!
Welcome phoenixdoglover! Never too late to comment or post a tune here. It’s good to see another “Neil,” fan.
I feel very much the same as you, regarding Mr. Young and his music. I listened quite a bit while in high school, and for years later. Actually, I still listen!
I’ve been to two of his shows. That old man can rock!
This guy seems like a brother in my travels through life. First in Yorkville, Toronto, in the early sixties ……then ‘in concert’ numerous times ……always’in the now’ ……changing …..experimenting ……BE-ing. Always ‘commenting’ on the state of life in North America through beautifully articulate songs that were often haunting in their complex simplicity. Hurrah for Neil!
Thanks for your personal shout out to Mr. Young. I completely agree. Neil Young has NEVER sold out.
It’s good to see you here on the Music Thread and here on Planet POV. We do this music thingy every weekend. Some times it’s theme based and sometimes it’s play whatever you feel like playing.
My favorite:
I’m shocked to see that not a single person put this one up as of yet, especially in light of the road we seem destined to traverse in this nation of corruption and greed.
Neil Young – Ohio
Hey Smot, I posted Ben Harper’s version of this song. I was there, the day after it happened.
I must have scrolled a bit too quickly, and missed it. Apologies. Good song, terrible tragedy that made it possible.
No biggie, Smot! Glad to see you here.

My favorite performer, he does so many different styles, but I like the hard rock with Crazy Horse the best, they put on two of my all time favorite concerts.
