Vox Populi, our weekly live chat begins tonight at 7:00pm PDT. Due to a sudden call from the Jeb Bush campaign that they’re having a fire sale on cell phones, celebratory confetti and balloons and Presidential-looking 3 piece suits, I can’t resist a bargain and will unfortunately not be hosting Vox Populi tonight. So tonight, Vox is an open bar! Have fun and chat about the week’s events or whatever comes up but please, no jumping on the furniture! Should be a fun evening, will catch up on the conversation later tonight! Have a great Vox!

hi glenn! will be in and out today for a few minutes. I’m sure there will be lots to talk about after the debacle of the GOP debate

Hey PPO, how’s everything down under?
glenn
PPO–what gop debate debacle? The candidates bashed each other; bashed the “liberal media”; and bashed the moderators. From a gop point of view, it was a rousing success!

Hey, glenn! Hey, PPO! Hope your Friday is going well?

Good Friday to all! Anyone believe that Paul Ryan is going to bring a touch of warmth and humanity to the House GOP?

Howdy…..This is the triumph of the Trump bluff…if the networks do not play as I want them to play….I am not showing up has now expanded to the entire field….censorship right wing style.

I also just noticed that even though AdLib is on the roster there on the left, he’s not really “here”! So we seem to be on the honors system tonight. Wow…he might regret that….
kesmarn
Murph… they seem to feel that if any moderator asks them anything more challenging than: “What’s your dog’s name?” or “What’s your favorite color?” they’re being persecuted.
kesmarn
Kes….what they want is the chance to use their talking points and to go at each other…..if I could figure out how to do it with 15 people … I would endorse the idea….I think they should go after each other.
MurphTheSurf3
They’re so used to big, fluffy soft ball questions from FOX that they can’t cope with anything else. Maybe one big free-for-all — as you suggest — would be for the best! The one thing I would say is that one minute to answer any of those questions didn’t seem to be a realistic time frame.
kesmarn
15 people in a debate…insane….the Dem debate had five but it was really three and THAT is what made the debate interesting…plenty of time and three very informed people who are each policy wonks.
MurphTheSurf3
When you compare the two debates, they don’t even seem to have happened on the same planet! I heard a story on NPR about word analysis of the candidates’ speech. Trump speaks at about a 4th grade comprehension level. ALL the Dem candidates used more advanced language levels than ANY of the GOP. Cruz ranked highest for the Repubs.
kesmarn
Kes…very good point…the level of engagement was very sophisticated.
MurphTheSurf3
I realize I’m not exactly unbiased, but I think it’s safe to say that the Dem candidate field is just plain smarter than the GOP one. Although some of them are reasonably intelligent — but are doing their very best to accurately impersonate idiots I think.

Hey everyone. I was away, but now I’m back for a few minutes. Hope everyone is well.
glenn

glenn! I wondered what happened to you!
kesmarn

Kes….what is clear to me is that the base is not very smart….this is the Tea Party phenomenon writ large….and the candidates have to appeal to that base.
MurphTheSurf3
Hi Glenn….we are on our own tonight….Ad is ghost hosting.
MurphTheSurf3
Kes–have to agree with you about where the two debates occurred. However, since we all know that repubs live in an alternate, fact-free universe, it’s only fitting that it seems that the debates happened on two different planets.
glenn
Trump is good at appealing to that base. He really knows how to deliver what they want to hear. In one syllable words. “Wall.” “Yoooge!”
kesmarn

glenn, right! FantasyLand works for the GOP.

Murph–so does this mean we have reached the “adult table”?

A friend of mine tweeted: “Poor Jindal. He’s sprinkling glitter on that dead horse that is Louisiana’s economy and calling it a unicorn.” I retweeted it, and then guess who picked it up and retweeted it again? George Soros!! The bete noir of the right!

Murph–I have a question for you. What does someone do if they lose their employer-provided insurance and then do not qualify for subsidies?
glenn

Glenn….oh boy….I would need a lot more info….to answer well.
MurphTheSurf3
Is this in a state that accepted the Medicaid expansion, glenn?
kesmarn
Murph–and..according to what I was told, all new policies have higher deductibles and cost 40% more. Keep in mind that I live in GA so we don’t have a state exchange.
glenn
Glenn….why does this person not qualify for ACA?
MurphTheSurf3

Glenn, it all depends on which policy the person is going for….bronze, silver, gold, platinum…..to use the categories.

Murph-apparently they make too much money to qualify for subsidies. All of this was told to me by the driver who took me home from the airport last week, so I don’t have a lot of detail, but you do know it’s all Obama’s fault.
glenn
Murph–isn’t cobra extremely expensive? I know when my husband and I had to use cobra, it was very highly priced.
glenn
It all sounds odd to me…..they need to contact the Marketplace and have an interview. They should also get to a navigator…. here is a site to look at.
http://www.legalconsumer.com/obamacare/topic.php?TopicID=9&ST=GA How Do I Sign Up for Obamacare in Georgia?

Cobra is expensive but if they have lots of money they should be able to afford it until they get better coverage.

Sabreen…we are seeing your comments….
MurphTheSurf3
Murph– I guess they don’t have lots of money, or if they do, they don’t want to spend it on insurance; better to complain about President Obama. Has nothing to do with the fact that GA didn’t accept Medicare, you know.
glenn
glenn, I don’t have the bar to roll the comments
Sabreen60
Glenn…this discussion is too obscure to make much sense of it…..
MurphTheSurf3

Sabreen–I find that if I put my mouse somewhere in the Vox box, click my mouse once, then I can scroll using the little doohickey on the mouse that rolls.
glenn
Murph–I know; every time I tried to give him a solution; he rejected it. Of course, that was purposeful, IMO. Better to complain, dontcha know?
glenn
Glenn, people like that usually have no interest in solutions, only in problems.
MurphTheSurf3
Murph–Yup, you got it. Typical conservative….the world is coming to an end because we have a Democrat in the White House. And, of course, Hillary lied to the American people, so she is scum, too.
glenn

Murph–Thanks for trying to figure it all out for me; and for providing the link, though. I knew you’d have some answers for me.

KillgoreTrout

Murph–so do you think Hannity and Limbaugh will moderate the next gop debate? Now, that will be a hoot. Can’t you just hear the questions? On a scale of 1-10, please rate how much you hate the President. And, on a scale of 1-10, please tell us how Reagan is the greatest president who ever lived. And, what are you going to do about all these gays trying to shove their agenda down our throats? And what about the Muslims?

As a great way to share this experience, PlanetPOV is hosting a live chat (live typed comments) tonight to discuss the night's results as they come in along with everything else this election will bring and what folks think it will mean for the future.
It is long past time to stop playing Trump’s game of racism, hate, misogyny, and abject greed. If Trump is elected, he will end democracy as we know it. Harris will preserve it and work to make it better and far more inclusive so we can have it, as Lincoln said, a more perfect union. It will only happen if you vote.
