glenn – Just for the record, I think the pundits predicting his demise were mostly tone deaf pundits who usually are clueless about everything but the status quo. Right now though, Trump has for the first time, got multiple candidates attacking him, he’s attacking Carson and Fiorina and upsetting Repubs. I think Carson could overtake him (but Carson is so awful, he’s got no chance in a GE).

BTW, I flipped over to MSNBC this morning and once again, they were showing the broadcast from 9/11 on the anniversary which nauseates me due to the crass mentality by the MSM to keep doing this. Maybe some here disagree with me but to me it’s like wallowing in terrorist porn. Old terrorist porn. I do believe in having all the observances but running the footage over and over each 9/11 is like giving a free congratulatory ad to Al Qaeda.

KT – Agreed, I saw Carson in Ferguson today at his press conference and he will scare a majority of American voters who try to imagine him as President. He’s a meek and emotionless nerd. Who has extremist RW views. If it’s not Trump, I hope it’s Carson.

And how about Hillary declaring that she is a “moderate”. She’s losing her grip in the primary and has already stampeded to the middle to gain some stability in support. And did you hear her war mongering talk? She’s sliding back into her anti-Progrssive clothes and they’re a perfect fit. Meanwhile, Bernie keeps gaining on her (and Biden!) as her numbers sink.

KT – True, Biden is not a true Progressive but he does support many Progressive positions (he supported gay marriage before Obama did). He is a center-left moderate but Hillary is a center-right conservative so he’s a far better choice than her. Bernie however is a genuine Progressive.

Murph – It isn’t the mystery the MSM likes to present. Carson is close with the Fundamentalist extremists who have been and continue to carry him. That’s it, pretty much. He always touts his religiousness and his adherence to Fundamentalist values. Trump’s supporters are the Tea Party types, two groups that sometimes crossover but are two main constituencies of the core GOP. No mystery, the support for each is very shallow and primarily those small groups of voters.

Murph, I saw the same speech by Carson, it came off as very tepid and muddled to me. As a reporter there noted to him, he says race is involved in Ferguson but it isn’t. He’s afraid to say in that appearance his previously stated views that only those who complain about racism are racists.

Murph – MSNBC carried a portion of the press conference live, having a bit of distance from Carson via tv revealed more I think. In a more intimate surrounding, his soft talking manner and his broad generalities may have come across positively but on the colder medium of tv, the shallowness of his words and the lack of charisma seemed notable. All he did was blather about “respect” and slyly support shredding the safety nets with a unicorn wish of all Americans supporting easch other when they lose their jobs or get foreclosed on. It’s bizarre fantasyland thinking.

Ironically, Ben Carson is a bit of a Judas Goat, hoping to gently lead the herd into the slaughterhouse. He espouses most of the worst positions of the GOP but does so in his mild way and with such generalities, they seem sensible but lead just the same to the slaughterhouse.

Murph – Saw some of his speech and his answering of questions from press. He speaks moderately and slyly about wanting to sweep racism under the rug and blame both sides for police and government oppression of black people. He uses the code words of “both sides need to show respect” to cloak what he’s said in the past about black people being the only racists.

Fiorina can get nasty like Trump, when it comes to Hillary and that’s tasty red meat to the Repubs so she could gain (that’s why she “stood out” at the kid’s table debate, just for saying hateful things about Hillary).

Murph – Kasich is around 3%-4% now, he didn’t get any traction after initial buzz about him. Don’t see any strong base support for him and Trump voters aren’t Kasich voters.

slm – Just like the DNC is trying to manipulate the race towards Hillary, I agree that the RNC will push all their buttons to get Jebby elected but I don’t see how they can make people vote for him who don’t want to. In a recent poll, Bush comes right behind Trump in candidates Repubs say they absolutely won’t vote for. And at least Trump has a base! Bush has no base support among core Repubs.

Murph – From what I’ve seen, Trump voters want a non-politician who is a daddy figure and shows hostility which they view as “toughness”. Kasich is a long time politician and veteran of the Bush Admin, he isn’t a hostile and aggressive figure and doesn’t represent the voice of the anti-establishment. I don’t see how Trump voters will see him as desireable.

Murph – In this CU era, the field may not thin out for a long time. Depending on who has billionaires backing them, this fight could go on a long time and those at the bottom may solidify there. Kasich is at the bottom now, he would need Jeb and Walker to both drop out for him to gain support since those are more his voters. Kasich isn’t the extremist outsider, plain and simple, and this is the year of that type of candidate.

Graham will fold soon. Rand is in trouble, he may drop out to focus on his re-election campaign. Santorum may hang around cheaply. Christie is in trouble. Walker may hang on until IA but if he loses, he may be out quick since winning there was his game plan.

I will say though, because of the desperation of most of the field, I think next week’s debate will be the biggest circus we’ve seen. Jindal is going to leap across the stage to slam Trump as hard as he can and Rand may join him. Fiorina will jab at him and Christie may implode. Get the popcorn ready!
