JOn Stewart recently said that watching Trump’s campaign was as much fun as eating ice cream on a roller coaster made of blow jobs! HA!
KillgoreTrout

Anyway, you know what it is now

Boy am I going to miss him
funksands

Yes, I do. I think I’ve heard that before and just couldn’t remember.

You need an http URLthat ends with a graphic last name like . jpg.
AdLib 3 hours ago
Yes yes yes

Me too funk. He will definitely be missed.

You’re like that paperclip Ad: “It looks like you are trying to download a picture”
funksands
I respect someone going out at the top of their game to pursue other passions. It’s got to be an utterly exhausting gig. I’ve listened to interviews with people on the show and they say that Stewart basically works 13-14 hour days working on everything on the show top to bottom
funksands
KT – saw that, so funny. Imagine how hard it is for him not to spend every show on Trump.
AdLib 3 hours ago
well Ad, he’s doing pretty well, all things considered.

The concerted effort by the establishment to take Trump down almost makes me feel sorry for him. But mostly it just makes me cackle

Trump or Stewart?

I guess you guys saw the Wyatt Cenac flap. I can understand Wyatt’s feelings, but I think he is really being a bit thin skinned. Stewart does impressions of just about any ethnicity, including his own.
KillgoreTrout

I like that Trump has threatened 3rd party on Repubs, they were organizing to get him out, now what?
AdLib 3 hours ago
Maybe The Donald can be the GOP version of Ralph Nader.
KillgoreTrout

Vote Hillary. Vote Trump.

Maddow had a great piece on what Perot’s candidacy really meant for the election results. Good stuff. Her staff is really impressive

Maddow may be all that is left over at MSNBC in the liberal purge that seems to be underway there.
MurphTheSurf3

I have a wait and see attitude toward Hillary. I’d love to see Sanders get the nod, but I do worry about people misunderstanding the real brand of socialism that Sanders promotes. It could be a deal breaker with many dems. I hope I’m wrong.

I think MSNBC should definitely get rid of Scarborough.
KillgoreTrout
No chance. Scarborough is locked in for years
funksands

Funk, saw that. Maddow is right. Perot didn’t help Clinton win.
AdLib 3 hours ago
Hey Sabreen!
AdLib 3 hours ago
Why do you say that, funk?
KillgoreTrout
scarborough is not on the list as he is not a liberal.
MurphTheSurf3
Ad, I’ll admit that I myself had that conventional wisdom
funksands

MSNBC will nosedive. Deservedly.
AdLib 3 hours ago
They are really going to give Chuck Todd his own show? Really? Whatever for?
KillgoreTrout
Funk, I’m pretty “straight” forward. A shot of Tequila with a wedge of lime and salt to lick
Sabreen60
Sab, I like that. Clean and neat
funksands
Yes, his new show will be called, “MSNBC’s Chuck You!”
AdLib 3 hours ago
i also think MSNBC should bring back Olberman. He may be a bit egotistical, but he did say it like it was.
KillgoreTrout

Funk –
Sabreen60
Aren’t we all hungry for more Chuck Todd? He’s just so addictive.
AdLib 3 hours ago
Ad….MSNBC ratings have been of for a long while and the fix appears to be to make it more like an NBC secondary…thus Williams and Todd and a hard news focus
MurphTheSurf3
Chuck Turd.
KillgoreTrout
I think “UP! Chuck” is a great name for his show
funksands
OK Sabreen, don’t say hi, see if I care!
KillgoreTrout
Murph. – Because every show is redundant except Maddow. They all cover the same few stories with no depth. Boring.
AdLib 3 hours ago
I read that MSNBC has hired the black Republican Amy whats-her-face. I wouldn’t her even if she weren’t Republican. Talk about arrogant.
Sabreen60
That said, I won’t miss Ed Schulz’s show. I like the guy, I like his politics, but his show is terrible. The Cycle is awful and Alex Wagner is just dull. Good people a victim of poor programming and production
funksands

Sabreen60

Amy Holmes. She’s very very smart. Very dangerous.
funksands

How about Melissa Harris-Perry? I like her and think she is smart and courageous.
KillgoreTrout
I like both “Up Chuck!” And “Chuck Turd”!
AdLib 3 hours ago
KT, I like her a lot, and I like her show very much too. I always try to watch a few minutes of her show on Saturdays.
funksands

KillgoreTrout
I got rid of cable, so of course I can’t watch any of the pundits. Actually, they all were beginning to get on my nerves. Maybe I’m becoming grumpy in my foxy old age
Sabreen60
What I like about both is lots of content…..unusual guest lineup….hard, in-depth discussion.
MurphTheSurf3
I must admit, I don’t have much skin the game, since I dropped my cable a few years ago.
KillgoreTrout

The challenge is that liberals (like with everything else) are as easy to herd as wet cats. They get their information from dozens of different sources, and are very fickle consumers. IMO of course

KillgoreTrout

For me Sabreen it was a combination of cost/benefit and way too many commercials. Why pay people to try to sell me things.

MurphTheSurf3
No, they didn’t Ad. At the time, any citizen of Japan over the age of 14 was expected to fight any imminent invasion. Even women and old people. I’m sure they didn’t want that role. It was the Bushido warrior’s code that really made Japan suffer needlessly.
KillgoreTrout
AdLib – But the problem is far too many people are not involved.
Sabreen60
Murph – Cuba and Iran are different but the principle is the same. You can’t isolate a nation to get what you want from them. Only diplomacy offers a path.
AdLib 2 hours ago
I think it’s a good thing that we have opened relations with Cuba. I wonder just how similar Castro’s son is to his old man. And the USSR no longer exists.
KillgoreTrout
KT – It was really the US that wanted to show the world that they had the atom bomb and what it could do. They wanted to use it so they did. They didn’t need to.
AdLib 2 hours ago
I would love to go to Cuba. I have friends that went a few years ago by way of Jamaica.
Sabreen60
Sabreen – So true and so frustrating. The apathetic people are the ones handing the power to the greedy. All they have to do is vote and this would be a very different country. if we had an 80% turnout of eligible voters? America would be a very different and better place. I’m all for mandatory voting if it can bring about those kinds of numbers.
AdLib 2 hours ago
KT…..Ad….best estimates were that the cost of an invasion of the Japanese Home Islands would have been half a million U.S. casualties…the Japanese had a lot of troops in reserve AND the Soviets were waiting to pounce if given an opportunity. The A Bomb was meant to shock the Japanese government into surrender, given that the narrative claimed there were dozens of other weapons in reserve and that the Imperial City was next.
MurphTheSurf3
Ad….for the GOP Cuba and Iran are the same….both no-go zones no matter what.
MurphTheSurf3
I agree, to a point. We offered surrender terms more than once, but Japan refused, every time. I know we wanted Stalin to see the power nukes had, and Stalin was eyeing Japan for their next conquest. I think the first bomb was needed. Not the second one. More people died in the fire bombing of Japanese cities than did those who died from a boms, even many years later. I think the second bomb was merely a cruel scientific experiment. was
KillgoreTrout

KillgoreTrout

MurphTheSurf3
Murph – My proposition is that the US could have dropped an A Bomb in the Pacific, close enough to Japan to scare them but far away enough from them to cause no harm. I think we could have gotten the same results without killing so many innocent people in such horrible ways.
AdLib 2 hours ago
Murph, FOX NEWS is absolute proof of that!
KillgoreTrout
Ad….thee was talk of dropping it in Tokyo harbor. After Okinawa I think all bets were off
MurphTheSurf3
Murph – Hence the rise of the Ignorance Candidate, Trump.
AdLib 2 hours ago
Trump is the living embodiment of teapartyism triumphant.
MurphTheSurf3
I disagree Ad. Japan would not surrender, even after the first bomb wiped out an entire city. We should have stopped after the first and given Japan time to realize what we had done and could do again. As I said, the second bomb was just a cruel scientific experiment.
KillgoreTrout
Murph – I think that was a mistake. America hasn’t really considered what it meant to be the first nation to drom an atomic bomb on another country.
AdLib 2 hours ago
The Tea Party is the Second Know Nothings.
MurphTheSurf3
You must also remember the sheer hatred this country had for Japan at the time. Their murderous treatment of POWs was also a factor.
KillgoreTrout
Japan was not innocent. Not at all. Too bad that the ordinary citizens of that country had to suffer so much. That is the way it always goes, though.
KillgoreTrout
Murph – It’s kind of funny that the GOP has been pandering so hard to the simple minded, anti-government hatred, with Palin as one of their key stepping stones, that when they finally got their Tea Party type Billionaire to run, they want to stop him so they can nominate another establishment Repub who will pander to them again but not deliver what they want.
AdLib 2 hours ago
KT, that’s my point. even after the atrocities perpetrated, the US still worked with Germany and Japan and forged new alliances. Why not Iran?
pinkpantheroz
I would like to think that the GOP is on it’s last legs, but ideology is a very hard thing to overcome.
KillgoreTrout
The Tea Party were meant to be political cannon fodder – thus the sponsorship by the Kochs as organized by Freedom Works – but they have never quite marched in synch so the funding went away but the cancer had been sown and has spread. It is now at the root of much of their base and provides the glue holding it in place.
MurphTheSurf3
KT – For me, the issue is applying mass guilt, making all people of a country guilty of the sins of a minority and justifying killing any of them. Again, for me, it’s the kind of justification ISIS and Al Qaeda use, that all Americans deserve to be killed.
AdLib 2 hours ago
I agree PPO. Iran has not really been all that vicious towards us. Yeah, the hostages and all that, but that pales in comparison to Germany and Japan.
KillgoreTrout
I agree Ad, until WWII, the bombing of civilians was considered taboo. But, that’s the nature of such massive warfare. Where do you draw a line, when your enemy draws no lines at all?
KillgoreTrout
PPO – Agreed, reasonable people would want a normalizing of relationships with Iran. The key word here is reasonable.
AdLib 2 hours ago
KT – ideology, yes, but Theology as well.
pinkpantheroz
Isn’t it sad that unreason is still so prevalant? Sad indeed.
KillgoreTrout

KT and Ad….Iran, as Persia, has a profound opportunity to provide the Middle East with religious that transcends absolutism. This deal is an important step in that direction.
MurphTheSurf3

no doubt PPO. Samey same, in my book.
KillgoreTrout

I agree Murph. The Shias, don’t seem to be as hard core as the Sunnis.
KillgoreTrout
Murph – This is the same thing that happened with the previous iteration of the Tea Party, The Moral Majority. They too were patronized and manipulated as hicks but they too grew tired of being treated that way and eventually became the tail wagging the dog. Which led to the crash of the GOP and the Moral Majority. When they finally win, it destroys both of them. If the Tea Party finally get “their” candidate as the Presidential candidate from the GOP and he loses massively, both will again be destroyed for years, repeating history.
AdLib 2 hours ago

How else can they be influenced if we won’t have a relationship with them…and be in a position to offer carrots instead of always sticks. The Iranian people don’t all hate America, many of them like America, they just can’t speak out publicly to say so.
AdLib 2 hours ago
america’s police forces are far too militarized now. Our cops are at war with our nations poor people, when they should be “protecting and serving.” You can blame racism and the war on drugs for that horrible realty.

AdLib 2 hours ago
KT, the Koran is one book with different interpretations. Here, there are many different printings and interpretations of the Bible. Anyway, if we’re ‘Christians” shouldn’t we be reading only the New Testament?
pinkpantheroz
KT – It’s almost alternating days, police abusing or causing the death of an African American and some lunatic with a gun killing innocent citizens. You can almost set your watch by it.
AdLib 2 hours ago
Good question PPO. I’m an atheist, but I see the New Testament as god’s kid correcting his dad’s crankiness! It’s like, damn dad, you were a real prick, maybe we should soften our message here!
KillgoreTrout
The GOP alternative is the threat of military action…that is all they have as there is nothing else.
MurphTheSurf3
KT, beautiful and accurate simile, but it wouldn’t suit the fundamentalists to talk only of peaceful methods to resolve conflict now, would it?
pinkpantheroz
Sure Ad, it’s war. But when you have mandatory minimum sentencing for non-violent drug offenses, which are totally draconian, a for profit prison system, combined with decades old racism, you get what we see every day. It’s absolutely fucked up and not anywhere close to what our founders intended.
KillgoreTrout
Murph – Do you think Repubs genuinely want to go to war against Iran or is it just cynical pandering to their base and a way to stick a thumb in Obama’s eye after achieving a peace treaty. How would we pay for such a massive war? Do they really think the public is more scared of Iran than ISIS, neither of which really threatens this nation.
AdLib 2 hours ago
nope PPO. Fire and brimstone, and all that, cha know!
KillgoreTrout
Ad, ISIS is a danger just by radicalizing US youth to do terrorist acts. That’s colose enough to home for me.
pinkpantheroz
KT – No kidding. The extremists in the GOP who have brought about much of the over-arming of Americans and the insitutionalization of racism, never stop to consider the consequences. When the last straw breaks the camel’s back, and I think we’re pretty close, society becomes more fragile and worse things can happen.
AdLib 2 hours ago
It’s funny PPO, but I see all the home grown gun violence here as a bigger threat.
KillgoreTrout

PPO – What’s the difference between a mentally ill young person killing innocent citizens for ISIS and a mentally ill older man killing innocent citizens out of paranoia? The mentally ill are capable of killing, many of those who have killed as fans of ISIS are mentally ill too. The problem is mental illness. Is there anything ISIS could say in a video that would make a reasonable person go out and kill innocent citizens? I don’t think so.

The reaction to the most recent spate of shootings in my redneck woods is auto-responses about there being no bad guns only bad people.

Add the crazy idea of being allowed to kill someone, just because a person might feel threatened. Holy shyte! Stand your ground laws are a return to the wild, wild west!
KillgoreTrout
Murph – Yes, the less educated, emotionally driven types that make up the core of the GOP want simple, physical answers to solving problems. They understand hitting things with hammers to stop them, not negotiating using strategies and intellect.
AdLib 2 hours ago
I know Murph, I often ask these gun nuts when is the last time they can remember a gun, jumping up all by itself, and shooting someone.
KillgoreTrout
Ad…..there is no discussion with folks like that only confrontation.
MurphTheSurf3
Murph – Yep, simple answers for those who need them. And BTW, that’s kind of a dumb deflection by them, no bad guns? How can an inanimate object be bad. But it can be dangerous. If a toddler picks up a gun, the gun still isn’t bad…it’s dangerous though in the minds of reasonable people. But to win their argument, they have to say that “liberals” think guns are “bad”.
AdLib 2 hours ago
KT…..I get derisive laughter when I make comments like that.
MurphTheSurf3
Sad, isn’t it Murph. I believe that people should have a right to keep a gun IN THE HOUSE, for protection, and for hunting, but who needs a fricken weapon that can fire 700 rounds per minute? So they have to attack and devalue the person, that’s the only game they think they can win and by winning that, they believe they win their argument on the issue.

Ad…and with that, claimingthey lostpatience with me, and told me off, they stride away, full of triumphant glory.

PPO – That is an example of an amoral kid who’s probably seen too many action movies and video games and though it was “cool”.

KT – Exactly! These RWs acutally boast about what pussies they are, how scared they are of the outside world. Why don’t their fellow non-cowardly Repubs call them on being the pussies that they are? “I never go anywhere without two guns.” “Then you are a frightened pussy?”
AdLib an hour ago
Ad, I think you have hit the core of today’s problems – Amoral people hiding behind theocratical rantings to justify evil actions

Don’t fogert un abashed greed PPO. People who stock pile can foods, dry goods, water, and guns and ammo, for the coming apocalypse. They need the guns and ammo to keep needy people away. That way, they don’t have to SHARE. You know, like Jeebus wants them to.

Murph – Yep, I swore off debating RWs because you can’t win a point on an issue, it uusually comes down to them lying and throwing around insults. like trying to debate angry chihuahuas. No point.

PPO – Maybe so. There are so many voices now that justify amorality, from the Kochs to the Kardashians, from Miley Cyrus to Donald Trump, from Wall Street to the Supreme Court. And it’s a relief for some people to get under the amoral umbrella, they can justify doing terrible things.

One thing that Obama has displayed is a sense of morality in a time of amorality.
