Hey all, I’m not at my computer right now so last week’s chat appears above. Other than that, it’s a regular Vox Populi tonight at 7pm! Hope to see you then!
adlib 7 days ago

Hey Ad, PPO, are you there? And do you love America?
glenn

Hey glenn – if AdLib isn’t here, let’s rumble! How are you?
choicelady

Hey glenn, it’s HOT here!
pinkpantheroz

Hi, cl
pinkpantheroz

Hey CL–I’m ready to rumble–are you?
glenn

Hi PPO – that’s what I hear about ‘Stralia. How hot is it?
choicelady

Hello?
haruko haruhara

Well HI Haruko! It’s been way too long! How are you?
choicelady

97F, sunny low humidity, thank god.
pinkpantheroz

PPO–“Sorry” to hear about your heat–its 28 degrees here!
glenn

glenn – I’m all in!
choicelady

Hai, how are you?
haruko haruhara

brrrrrr, glenn
pinkpantheroz

Hi HH–Can I shorten your name?
glenn

Hey there! In transit but good evening all!
adlib 7 days ago

glenn – it’s about the same in Australia but in celsius!
choicelady

Hi, HH, nice to meet you
pinkpantheroz

Hi AdLib – how are you!
choicelady

It’s OK, Glenn, everyone has trouble with my name.
haruko haruhara

Hi, Ad. DONT text and drive!
pinkpantheroz

HH-Thanks, nice to meet you.
glenn

Doing well but worked later than expected.
adlib 7 days ago

Haruko – it’s not trouble with your name but we all shorten everything. Fast pace and all.
choicelady

Nice to meet you. Pink Panther, I was born in NZ.
haruko haruhara

PPO and AdLib – totally agree: don’t text and drive!
choicelady

Ah, well, HH we all have our crosses to bear!

pinkpantheroz

HH–When did you leave NZ?
glenn

When I was 16.
haruko haruhara

HH – where are you now? Your icon says ‘gillette’ which I know naught about.
choicelady

I’m typing while driving on an alpine road while trying to eat ribs.
adlib 7 days ago

HH-Any plans to go back?
glenn

That’s just where my ISP is based, I’m in northern Montana
haruko haruhara

AdLib – oh is THAT all the multitasking you’re doing…feh.
choicelady

Ad–As long as you’re not drinking….
glenn

How is it in MT, HH?
choicelady

I’ve been away so long, I dunno … we keep talk about moving to Canada.
haruko haruhara

HH – I’d do that in a flash if I could.
choicelady

Here, snowy, rainy, sleety today.
haruko haruhara

HH – I lived in Sydney, NS for a time. Liked it a lot.
choicelady

hey Murph!
pinkpantheroz

MURPH!!!
choicelady

Oh, I loved in a town called Kamloops for a year, in B.C.
haruko haruhara

Hey Murph–tell us how you love America, please.
glenn

HH – I love BC but haven’t yet been to Kamloops.
choicelady

glenn – how do YOU love America? Since you brought it up and all…
choicelady

I forgot, I’m also drinking from two straws coming from my beer hat.
adlib 7 days ago

HH–Sounds like you’ve moved around a bit–and to some interesting places.
glenn

Kamloops is shockingly hot for Canada; it hit 40 C a few times in the summer.
haruko haruhara

AdLib – you might be pushing the edges of…going over the edges.
choicelady

ad, with a broom up your backside to sweep the snow!
pinkpantheroz

CL–I’m just sorry you can’t see the size of my flag pin so you can tell how much I love America!
glenn

HH – I never would believe that – how amazing that is! 40?????
choicelady

glenn – damned well better have rinestones, baby.
choicelady

I’m a vagrant, lived in NZ, San Francisco, the San Juan Islands, BC, Oregon and now Montana.
haruko haruhara

Before I enter this site I want to know if you all love America the way I do and that everyone here understands that 9/11 is the New 7/4.
murphthesurf3

HH – Where in the San Juans? Have friends on Lummi.
choicelady

San Juan Island itself.
haruko haruhara

Murph – that makes it clear. You’re an Amurcan.
choicelady

HH – Lovely!
choicelady

CL–Oh, c’mon–no rhinestones–mine has rubies-you know red and all! Plus they’re my birthstone!
glenn

glenn – wow. That PROVES you’re cool!
choicelady

Bill O’Reilly tonight: How DARE you label me a liar! Have at you!
haruko haruhara

HH- have we met? Well, howdy from country missouri.
murphthesurf3

Hai, Murph, I remember you from HP.
haruko haruhara

Murph – you might not know HH, but she’s a longtime friend from some years ago.
choicelady

HH- really….well welcome to the Planet…..
murphthesurf3

Murph–sitting low in my seat tonight–what is 7/4?
glenn

HH – BillO got caught-O. Oh!
choicelady

I drift around from site to site
haruko haruhara

glenn (passt – July 4th…)
choicelady

HH – you speak around? You hussy!
choicelady

Glenn. I am sorry but this means that your citzenship is in question. 9 is September. 11 the day in. 7 is July. 4 the day in. Stand up and salute the flag.
murphthesurf3

CL–see I told you I was sitting low in my seat and everything was going over my head–thanks! But I do have a great flag pin!
glenn

CL LOL!
pinkpantheroz

glenn – saved by the rubies!
choicelady

Glenn….choice vouches for you…good enough.
murphthesurf3

PPO

choicelady

Choice – thanks for the reminder about HH
murphthesurf3

Murph – wow. You sure do fool easy…
choicelady

Murph–thanks–I’m so grateful to have CL as a “voucher”.
glenn

glenn – a ‘voucher’!!! Makes me sound as if I will have my ticket punched! NOT my desire!
choicelady

CL–shhh–let Murph have his foolishness.
glenn

glenn – LOL!
choicelady

Just don’t punch my voucher.
adlib 7 days ago

Glenn and CL are you humoring me?
murphthesurf3

AdLib – we promise. We need you!
choicelady

Ad–if you’re still a moving target, pretty hard to punch your voucher.
glenn

Murph – of COURSE we’re humoring you!
choicelady

Hey, there are some semantics going on here. We call it 9/11, never The Eleventh of July. so why tdo we call it the Fourth of July and not, 7/4???? We need this conspiracy outed!
pinkpantheroz

Sorry, September!
pinkpantheroz

Can you vouch for that?
adlib 7 days ago

PPO – you make an excellent point that should be posted on some RW conspiracy nutjob site.
choicelady

Murph–naw–we just love you and are “funnin” with you. You’re okay with that, aren’t you?
glenn

Just left you guys a cartoon.
murphthesurf3

Murph – we had that cartoon in our paper today. GREAT.
choicelady

So how about Christie tanking and Jebby blowing his foreign policy speech? They all look like children compared to Obama.
adlib 7 days ago

AdLib – I’m so proud of the GOP. They always live down to my hopes and dreams.
choicelady

Ad, the Keystone Kops are running the GOP, with the 4 stooges up front.
pinkpantheroz

Murph–great cartoon!
glenn

Coffe break back in a min
pinkpantheroz

PPO – see you!
choicelady

Ad–they ARE children compared to PBO.
glenn

Christie’s first office was as a county commissioner in NJ, called a freeholder. At the end of his first term it was the other GOP on the council with him that got together and backed his opponent. They said he was indolent, mean, and obnoxious. He lost the election and the hope was he was done.
murphthesurf3

Anyone – did you hear the report that MSNBC is doing away with all ‘left news’ save Rachel?
choicelady

Yes, I saw that story, Choicelady
haruko haruhara

Ad–you know what I find absolutely infuriating? That christie could even be considered as a presidential candidate. Can you imagine him telling a foreign leader to “sit down and shut up?” I know I’m an “old fart”, but why is bullying considered leadership in the gop mind?
glenn

Murph – YIKES I’d not known that about Christie.
choicelady

HH – pretty scary.
choicelady

Ad…Jeb can look forward to having the advice of a fine group of extraordinary foreign policy experts with broad experinece…doncha know.
murphthesurf3

Rightwingers love bullies though. They see it as an attribute. As “strength.”
haruko haruhara

glenn – you’re NOT an old fart but someone steeped in the importance of respect and dignity in government.
choicelady

Choice….tell me more about the MSNBC story
murphthesurf3

HH – That has replaced intelligence as the key issue. Christie still has supporters. Ugh.
choicelady

CL – I heard that they were finally getting rid of Ronin and Joy Reid. Can’t blame them, Ronin especially was awful.
adlib 7 days ago

Murph – Story going around that all the liberal reporters – even though their ratings are excellent – are going to be canned.
choicelady

CL–Thanks.
glenn

AdLib – apparently it’s NOT just those two.
choicelady

Ronan Farrow and Joy Reid were canceled. Awful ratings. Chris Hayes also in trouble. I know that.
murphthesurf3

Murph – I dislike Hayes, but apparently Lawrence is in jeopardy, too, and Rev. Al and who knows who else?
choicelady

CL – I did hear they were axing Chris Hayes too. I like him
adlib 7 days ago

Choice or HH or whoever I would like to see the story…I think O’Donnell is ok, AL should be gone.
murphthesurf3

It’s like watching Current TV disintigrate. I was briefly a big fan of that network, but it unraveled quickly. Sigh.
haruko haruhara

Ronan is awful – no one should host a show before he’s old enough to shave and his voice changes. Seriously – he’s a kid.
choicelady

MSNBC repeats the same tune and bangs the same drum all day…..no variety.
murphthesurf3

Murph – I like Rev. Al. Not so hot about Chris who’s gone Emo way too often.
choicelady

Here you go.
http://www.politicususa.com/2015/02/20/report-msnbc-ditch-liberal-hosts-move-left-wing-tv.html
Report: MSNBC To Ditch Liberal Hosts And Move Away From “Left-Wing” TV
The cancellations of Ronan Farrow and Joy Reid were just the beginning of the changes at MSNBC. It is being reported that the network is going to get rid of their liberal hosts and move away from “left-wing TV.”

The cancellations of Ronan Farrow and Joy Reid were just the beginning of the changes at MSNBC. It is being reported that the network is going to get rid of their liberal hosts and move away from “left-wing TV.”
haruko haruhara

HH – I saw it on Politicus, yes. Twitter, too.
choicelady

I CANNOT STAND ED! He is ignorant and is the main reason we have the GOP. He kept screeching in 2010 –
choicelady

HH – Yep, but MSNBC was always just exploiting Progs, they’re a conservative corporation like the rest.
adlib 7 days ago

In 2010 Ed was the one saying “Send the Dems a message. Don’t vote!” So progs did not. And there you are.
choicelady

Choice. Sharpton is fake and an opportunist.
murphthesurf3

AdLib – I still get good stuff from some of them. Where, oh where is Edward R. Murrow today though?
choicelady

I’m of two minds regarding MSNBC. On one hand, sorry to lose liberal voices. On the other hand, I’d like to see them go to a straight news format. You know, maybe in-depth reporting, like what’s in the bills Congress is considering; facts and figures, stuff like that. No analysis; just reporting.
glenn

HH..read that article thanks….hmmmm
murphthesurf3

Murph – I think he’s grown a lot and no longer see him that way. Did once. Not now.
choicelady

Wow, now nobody will have a reason to watch MSNBC except when Rachel’s on. Brilliant move!
adlib 7 days ago

CL….I have experienced him here in Ferguson….no real change.
murphthesurf3

glenn – IF they do that, give us good reporting, OK. I don’t trust them since they’re expanding Scarborough’s time.
choicelady

Murph – too bad. On air though I think he’s been good.
choicelady

Can’t stand morning Jag, I mean Joe.
murphthesurf3

IN depth reporting…check out Al Jazeera
murphthesurf3

Morning Jerk?
adlib 7 days ago

AdLib – when their ratings tank if they have conservatives, I won’t cry.
choicelady

Murph – that’s my ‘go to’ source now. We finally got it, and it’s very good.
choicelady

AJA is great … don’t like their Website. All the commenting is “premoderated.” Like some other website I shouldn’t name…
haruko haruhara

The thing is that MSNBC’s ratings are best in Prez years….
murphthesurf3

MSNBC night shows outpoll FOX though. Some people are going back to CNN. Is it getting any better? Three hundred days of the Malaysian plane got a bit much…
choicelady

RW viewers won’t come over from Fox. Shallow indies won’t come over from CNN and Progs will head elsewhere. Genius.
adlib 7 days ago

Compare MSNBC and Fox….very close in style, structure, format….each show repeating….but the right is much more passive and the droning reassures. For liberals, thinking liberals, it is a bore.
murphthesurf3

Murph–do you think MSNBC’s ratings would be so great in Prez years if the Prez was an “r”? Just curious. And, I can’t stand Morning Joe!
glenn

AdLib – that was my take on their decision, yes.
choicelady

glenn – lucky for me, Joe is on way before I’m ready to watch TV.
choicelady

Glenn…they hit theirhigh water market in 2008-2009 and in 2012
murphthesurf3

Well, viewership of Al Jazeera should grow.
adlib 7 days ago

CL–I don’t watch it, either. Watched it a few times in the very beginning and could NOT stand the way Mika let herself be treated. She’s like the blonde bimbos on that other channel.
glenn

I’m so sorry Jon Stewart is going. Who can replace him? Loved Oliver’s scathing item on the tobacco lobby
pinkpantheroz

glenn – she’s old enough to have a say over her work. She doesn’t have to earn her money, just show up.
choicelady

CL – Joe is on well before anyone should be watching tv.
adlib 7 days ago

PPO – I’m wondering if Jon’s departure meant the idiots at MSNBC though there was no competition anymore.
choicelady

AdLib – too true!
choicelady

The MSNBC source said, “Going left was a brilliant strategy while it lasted and made hundreds of millions of dollars for Comcast, but now it doesn’t work anymore…The goal is to move away from left-wing TV.”
murphthesurf3

Murph – echoes of Arianna!
pinkpantheroz

PPO Yes.
murphthesurf3

Murph – well if they really WERE left wing, maybe, but the shows have all gotten too many GOP talking heads for my taste.
choicelady

PPO – good point!
choicelady

Murph–is that really what they said or your take on it? Again, just curious.
glenn

CL yes…..treat GOP too hard and they don’t come back.
murphthesurf3

Murph – that’s tough. We have enough of them, sorry.
choicelady

CL–I agree with you about Mika–she’s old enough and I think, smart enough, to have a say over her work. It’s too bad she chooses not to.
glenn

Glenn..that was a quote at the Daily Beast from a MSNBC insider
murphthesurf3

glenn – that would mean having some concern about your role as a commentator, and she doesn’t.
choicelady

glenn – I read what Murph reported, yes.
choicelady

Mika……the second banana….the two of them…Ken and Barbie in middle age….shades of GAG
murphthesurf3

Murph–wow–that’s an amazing quote! Why do you suppose it’s not working?
glenn

PPO – I think they’ll find someone good to replace Stewart…but Stewart is singular.
adlib 7 days ago

AdLib – remember when we all thought Colbert wouldn’t fly? But in some ways he outpaced Jon.
choicelady

Ad, agree. Huge boots to fill
pinkpantheroz

Ad and PPO–I think Key and Peele should replace Stewart. Some of their stuff is just awful, but when they do satire, they seem to do it very well. I love their “angry Obama”.
glenn

Hiya Planeteers! I don’t think none of y’all love Amurika!

sabreen60

Hai, Sabreen
haruko haruhara

Sabreen!!!! We’uns ALL love us our Amurika!!!
choicelady

glenn, don’t get those guy’s show here in OZ.
pinkpantheroz

PPO – well, you’ve lost nothing!
choicelady

Hey Sabreen–Does your use of the double negative mean that we do love America? Because I was telling CL earlier about my ginormous flag pin with rubies that shows I love America! So there!
glenn

SAB! we lurve ‘Murka, but hate the Gummint!
pinkpantheroz

Yes, I have noticed a big swing in pundits on MSNBC to the far and mid right. It’s already been going on.
adlib 7 days ago

PPO – speak for yourself!
choicelady

AdLib – too true.
choicelady

I find it hard to believe there is no market for a progressive news network.
haruko haruhara

PPO–If you get Jon Stewart, you get Key and Peele. They’re on Comedy Central. I must admit I have never watched a show all the way though, but when they have “angry Obama” on, it’s hilarious.
glenn

HH, there might be again, one day, but no one seemingly, apart from us here, wants anything but lies
pinkpantheroz

HH – too many have discovered that a huge chunk of the Left thinks you shouldn’t have to pay for anything and won’t support a liberal station or effort of any kind. Millennial ‘entitlement’. You have Twitter, what more do you need they ask?
choicelady

HH- there is a market but it’s not like the lemming mentality of RWs who all watch Fox.
adlib 7 days ago

HH Studies show that real progressives/liberals tend to seek news from many sources and many forms of media….just as Air America failed to solidify an audience the same has happened to MSNBC because that single source audience is not there.
murphthesurf3

True … progressives are a more disparate bunch. Fox viewers are notoriously elderly and get their news from no other sources.
haruko haruhara

So the audience size will always be smaller since it’s more spread out.
adlib 7 days ago

See you are talking about MSNBC. My thinking is that since Comcast (a rightwing corporation) owns MSNBC and NBC this is expected. At least I expected it. I see them getting rid of most of the “liberal” pundits in preparation for 2016. I expect libertarians and Republicans to fill out most of the slots.
sabreen60

Ad, Fox and their ilk are just “Reality TV”, but we all know that Reality TV is as rehearsed as any fiction!
pinkpantheroz

AdLib – but if all the news sources go after the Fox crowd, they won’t have an audience for long. They’re dying off!
choicelady

Sabreen – that would be my assessment, yes.
choicelady

I believe the average age of the Fox viewer is 67.
haruko haruhara

Good point, Sabreen
pinkpantheroz

HH- that gives FOX about another 5 years of life.
choicelady

Ad and Murph–That’s also why no one seems to know what progressives are thinking until we have national elections, when they all “come together”. Local and midterms just don’t seem to count, which is why we have so many republican governors.
glenn

A word about Giuliani…on the morning of 9/11 he had a 29 percent approval rating; the cost of cleaning up NY crime was police thuggery that rooted; the reason the guy was walking the streets that morning looking for a command cener was because the one he wanted and built with lots of money for friends was in the twin towers; and the reason so many firefighters did not get out was because they had crappy walkie talkies which G. would not replace…
murphthesurf3

glenn – that IS why the Right is far stronger. They are more focused on the long view.
choicelady

No offence to any older people here …

haruko haruhara

Murph – the walkie talkies were a no bid deal with Motorola that Rudy had because Motorola was a huge campaign donor of his. That is criminal and why firefighters turned out at his presidential rallies to BOO him!
choicelady

HH – no offense taken. We’re the flying wedge of liberalism.
choicelady

Murph–I never knew that guilliani’s father was a convicted criminal, either. Gotta “love” the way he bragged about how he was “brought up”–by a convicted criminal, no less! I swear repubs have no sense of irony!
glenn

CL – This really is no surprise. I read about the Comcast CEO. He’s a RWNJ. The powers-that-be (including him) couldn’t see past their nose. They bashed PBO 24/7 and lost most of his supporters. Chris Hayes and Konecki (?) brought in the libertarian pov and they simply adore Snowden. If you read the comments on Twitter, a lot of viewers had been turned off starting with the firing of Keith and then Bashir.
sabreen60

glenn – Repubs have no sense of shame!
choicelady

None taken, HH! It’s us old farts keeping the left energized. Youngsters today can only get news by Tweets and texts!
pinkpantheroz

CL – I begin my discussion of G with those facts every time….In the most recent rants I have asked folks to focus on the response of the current crop of GOP leaders
murphthesurf3

Sabreen – all that is true, and it’s despicable.
choicelady

Murph – I’m appalled there is not one GOP candidate who is not extremist in many ways including Jeb.
choicelady

Bashir…..Olbermann……Maddow…..O’Donnell…..Matthews….them’s who I watched
murphthesurf3

CL–that, too! I just can’t imagine criticizing someone else’s upbringing if I had a convicted criminal for a father! What an idiot!
glenn

Murph – when Jeb said he was his ‘own man’ but brought in all the neo cons I said what will distinguish him is that he will give them new nicknames.
choicelady

CL, with such cretins running, surely, despite the gerrymanders, some hope for a Dem Victory!
pinkpantheroz

PPO – not clear that there won’t be marked reduction in Red States so that a Dem victory is assured.
choicelady

CL, yes, all his staff worked for Poppy and Dubya!
pinkpantheroz

BRB
pinkpantheroz

Murph – And the thing that blows my mind, are the low life comments Morning Joke makes all the time – and his guests. Yet he remains 3 hours 5 days a week. I think that should tell folks something.
sabreen60

Murph – wow. Think of how many new nicknames Jeb will need to invent?
choicelady

CL–I love that Michael Schiavo is making sure people know how much of an extremist Jeb is by continuing to tell his story of how jebbie interfered with his personal life.
glenn

glenn – Michael Schiavo doesnt’ even know that all the people screaming outside his wife’s hospice were rabid anti-abortion zealots. I recognized EVERY ONE OF THEM.
choicelady

CL–That poor guy! He had to go through double hell. First, because of his wife’s illness, and then because of jebbie and all those idiots outside! Talk about government interference!
glenn

CL, Murph – I got so mad. I was watching local NBC news and they played the interview where Jebbby said he was his own man. They never mentioned all of W’s cronies who are working for him. This was a DC station. I can also get Baltimore. But on DC stations you get Republican propaganda.
sabreen60

glenn – that’s the horror of these people. They will use gov’t to control us all, just not corporations.
choicelady

A Word about ACA…as many of you know I have been working as an advocate for ACA for two years. We were hugely busy in the lst days as people literally poured through the doors looking for guidance. So record numbers and now Bloomberg and Reuters show that the cost to Big Business, small stuff, and has greatly improved the workplace, AND the cost of medicare care-bending the curve of increases now seems to be digging in. The SCOTUS challenge is next.
murphthesurf3

Murph – I actually think SCOTUS will not rule in favor of the supposed plaintiffs in part because not one of them has standing.
choicelady

Murph–what do you think of the “no standing to bring the case” argument?
glenn

The Scotus The Court from Most Liberal to Most Conservative based on their votes per the NYT’s Lee Upstein of Washington University School of Law. Kagan 70.4%, Sotomayor 69.9%, Ginsburg 68.9%, Breyer 58.9%, Kennedy 50%, Roberts 44.6%, Scalia 44.6%, Thomas 40.5%, Alito 39.7%

$47 a month … better than nothing.
haruko haruhara

CL et al – When you get a chance please read Jim Wright’s latest essay over at Stonekettle Station. It is really worth the read, IMO. Does a real number of Republicans fake love of fetuses and their caring less about life once born.
sabreen60

HH–Wow–that’s a great price!
glenn

Sabreen – will do. I don’t read him often enough!
choicelady

It really is, I know people paying $800 a month.
haruko haruhara

Murph – but when ALL your plaintiffs have been shown to have no skin in the game, the ruling suddenly becomes more dicey. I do agree it will go our way.
choicelady

Oh, I like Stonekettle.
haruko haruhara

glenn

sabreen60

HH – is that $800 figure on the exchange or in the ‘free market’?
choicelady

My guess is that Kagan + Sotomayor + Ginsburg + Breyer are the for certains. Now- I think that Kennedy joined Alito, Scalia and Thomas in conference to take the case but he did it to kill the challenges once and for all. AND I would not be surprised if Roberts joins them to associte himself with the reform AND have influnce on the majority decision to toss in couple of Conservative twists for his street cred.
murphthesurf3

They claim it’s on the exchange, I find that hard to believe because I know on the free market, we were looking at $500 a month.
haruko haruhara

Murph – my assessment precisely!
choicelady

HH…I have not been paying attention…what are you questioning. I might have some ideas.
murphthesurf3

HH – I suppose it might be that high if your family income is over 400% of the federal poverty level, but even at that, it’s probably far cheaper than the ‘free’ market.
choicelady

Some people are claiming they are paying $800 a month for insurance through the ACA, but I suppose they didn’t qualify for the tax refunds.
haruko haruhara

I used to pay almost $900 per month for just me!
choicelady

BRB
glenn

HH – that matters, but if they were not on the exchange, they’d pay MORE.
choicelady

True, still it isn’t the real answer. It worked out great for us.
haruko haruhara

HH – word of advice. Direct the subidy to your monthly payment rather than as a tax refund. It’s better that way.
choicelady

My husband was paying about $800 for the both of us. When I turned 65 I dropped from his. I still use his dental and vision, but I have Medicare B & G and a drug plan. Cost me less than what he was paying.
sabreen60

HH – For those of us supporting single payer, it turns out to be, for many reasons, more expensive than ACA. Vermont got the right to make single payer their state plan – was 11 times more expensive for lower income people. It needs work.
choicelady

I think that’s how we did it.
haruko haruhara

Sabreen – yup. That is much better. Good move.
choicelady

More good news. PBO signed EO (I think it’s an EO) to allow all 4th graders and their families free entrance into all federal parks – for a whole year!
sabreen60

Sabreen – that is amazing! Why 4th grade though?
choicelady

CL – I don’t know. I’ll have to go over the WH.gov and see if it says.
sabreen60

Sabreen – maybe that’s the year they do their first US history/social studies? Cool no matter why.
choicelady

Sabreen – you do know that RWNJ parents of FIFTH graders will be screeching!
choicelady

CL – Yep. I was telling my sister who has a granddaughter going to the 4th grade in Sept. I hope they take advantage of this. We have great national parks.
sabreen60

All – speaking of fifth graders, I just finished “Wonder” about a little boy with cranio-facial deformities. It was amazing. Might be seen as mawkish, but it wasn’t. I recommend it.

Harleigh is in FL if I recall, and it got very cold there.
choicelady

glenn

Thanks Sabreen!
choicelady

glenn – I heard it was really awful in FL in parts with record cold. Yes, KT and kes are in Ohio that is blasted.

sabreen60

HH – the book is “The Family” sorry – forgot to say that.
choicelady

HH–apparently, they are “rethinking” that bill. The rwnj who introduced it says he didn’t realize it would get rid of AP history classes. And, of course, these people still get elected! SMH!
glenn

Sabreen – but it will be a happy 500 pounds!
choicelady

Should be may “weigh”
sabreen60

CL – Oh no. No such thing as fat and happy. Not for me. When I gain weight and don’t exercise I have way too many aches and pains.
sabreen60

HH…I am a retired professor of history and was asked by our School Board to weigh in on the AP program….their focus was on the WHAT notthe HOW which is the focus of the AP experience. Critical thinking, analysis of sources, ambiguous outcomes. No wonder the right hates the courses.
murphthesurf3

Sabreen–I don’t cook, but I spend a lot of time on my computer. I’m addicted to a game called “just words” which is essentially scrabble. I play against the “expert”. Win some, lose some, but it keeps me out of the kitchen. However, it’s the techie version of couch potato.
glenn

My boss and I have taken to talking on conference calls on cell phones then going outside and walking for the duration of the call. It’s very useful as a strategy to get exercise. I just put the phone on mute and walk for 30-60 minutes.
choicelady

HH – I missed that!
sabreen60

Murph – there you go threatening the religious right again. When WILL you stop being a thorn in their sides? I hope NEVER!
choicelady

Murph–you got that right! Ambiguity (sp?), nuance, and especially critical thinking are not strengths of rwnj people!
glenn

All – I should note that most of our conference calls are terminally boring, so walking is a good thing to do to alleviate that.
choicelady

CL not just the religous, but also the social, political, and economic right…..it was a weird meeting….they are setting curriculum for kids who are so much smarter than they are SO they want to dumb them down.
murphthesurf3

Murph and glenn – what is this ‘critical thinking’ notion?
choicelady

Murph – oh that is horrid!
choicelady

CL – Whatever works. I’ll be back in the gym next week – I hope. My doctor said I could return this week, but then we got the snow and the cold.
sabreen60

CL–I know, we can’t have kids thinking critically. America is exceptional, dontcha know–and bigod that’s all they need to know!
glenn

There’s also a bill here in Montana that hasn’t gotten any attention that would require church attendance in order for people to collect food stamps. Sigh, I fear the right-wing extremists are taking over, and they’re doing it through state legislatures.
haruko haruhara

glenn – this started in the 70s. People on school boards figured out they did NOT want a repeat of the 60s with smart working class people and POC, so they dumbed down the curriculum. It worked.
choicelady

Hey Funk–how are you?

sabreen60

Sabreen–what kind of cooties?
glenn

Sabreen – we USED to get blood tests before licenses were issued to show we did not have STDs. Maybe not all bad, actually…?
choicelady

Sabreen–or more specifically–what are cooties?
glenn

glenn, I don’t know. I’ll see if I can find the article.
sabreen60

choicelady

CL and Sabreen–I agree. In the dark ages, when my husband and I got married, we had to have blood tests before we could get our marriage license. Guess I didn’t know that had changed. Shows how old I really am.

choicelady

funksands

HH – but unfortunately Moore is not alone in his cloning of Wallace.
choicelady

funk – I can’t decide if I want a leaked sex tape or dread it. The idea of anyone screwing with Rudy is pretty nauseating.
choicelady

Funk–eeeewwww! leaked sex tape of rudy.

glenn

“cooties” started in New Zealand
haruko haruhara

CL – Moore is doing an impression of Wallace…and he’s very good at being very bad.

choicelady

murphthesurf3

HH- I’m not at all sure that being the origin of cooties is something to brag about!!!

choicelady

“The word is thought to originate from the Austronesian languages, in which the Tagalog, Māori [6] and Malay word kutu refers to a parasitic biting insect,[7] or kudis (pronounced kuːdiːs), meaning scabies. glenn

CL–but where is his/her flag pin?
glenn

It’s real! Google Rudy Giuliani and “in drag” and you’ll see way too many photos of him. Every party opportunity he’d have to do it, he would. I’ve got nothing against anyone who does it, just hypocrites who attack others.
adlib 7 days ago

AdLib – I used to say to my drag queen friends I resented the fact some of them looked better than I did in ball gowns. Rudy would not be one of them.
choicelady

glenn – YES! WHERE IS RUDY’S FLAG PIN????? Probably on his/her corset?
choicelady

Remember Obama was just raised by his WW2 vet grandfather and grandmother, Rudy was raised by his loan-shark employed bat-wielding convicted armed robber dad. You know, a real American
funksands

AdLib – Yup. It’s the hypocrisy, baby. Rudy has a little fetish he’d deny to all others.
choicelady

choicelady

adlib 7 days ago

glenn – does appear the corset exploded.
choicelady

How much you want to bet Rudy is opposed to gay marriage?
haruko haruhara

HH – Exactly my point, Rudy is a RW values warrior and this makes him such a hypocrite.
adlib 7 days ago

HH – Oh Rudy IS opposed. You know the game – the rules are for OTHERS.
choicelady

Ad–I disagree–rudy does NOT look better in sequins, nor do the ostrich feathers do anything for him!
glenn

AdLib – you remember that great riff on “Murphy Brown” when one of the characters said of J.Edgar at parties, “He looked like hell in black lace, but he sure could rumba!”
choicelady

AdLib – LOL!!
choicelady

glenn

Cheers glenn! Have a great weekend!
adlib 7 days ago

Good night, glenn – please do stay warm there! See you next week I hope!
choicelady

Ad posted earlier…rudy hypocrisy…A word about Giuliani…on the morning of 9/11 he had a 29 percent approval rating; the cost of cleaning up NY crime was police thuggery that rooted; the reason the guy was walking the streets that morning looking for a command cener was because the one he wanted and built with lots of money for friends was in the twin towers; and the reason so many firefighters did not get out was because they had crappy walkie talkies which G. would not replace…
murphthesurf3

Nite glenn. Stay warm!
sabreen60

So our little Rudy gets his rocks off in drag but kills hundreds of NY’s finest. Great American that.
choicelady

Murph – So true, Rudy helped cause the crisis in response and may have directly caused the deaths of firefighters when the twin towers collapsed because other emergency workers couldn’t get through to them. He is awful.
adlib 7 days ago

Freaking hypocrite on every level is Rudy.
choicelady

Seriously folks. This kind of crap would go away a lot faster if the media and other folks would just utterly ignore the D-listers. All they want is a reaction. They even prefer a negative one. You think Rudy G was going to be invited on Fox or other news stations this week for other reasons?
funksands

What Dem brings this up about Rudy…
murphthesurf3

AdLib and Murph again – the radios were a no bid contract w Motorola, his largest campaign donor. They knew they did not work inside buildings. Did not care.
choicelady

Murph – it’s not D for Dem but D for fourth tier stupid list.
choicelady

CL – Radios that didn’t work inside buildings! Rudy might as well have pushed those firefighters off the roof.
adlib 7 days ago

Personally I’d put Victoria on the Z list.
choicelady

There’s something to be said about ignoring Ted Nugent and Sarah Palin, but I notice on liberal websites that when they post the insane stuff that they say, they get a million comments, so they keep doing it.
haruko haruhara

AdLib – when he ran for president, firefighters across the nation went to his rallies and booed him! They HATE him for that!
choicelady

Still, how satisfying was it for Rudy to get crushed in the 2008 GOP primary?
adlib 7 days ago

HH- we do have to stop giving the bottom feeding GOP any help at all.
choicelady

HH, that’s it exactly.
funksands

Rudy thought if he chanted “9/11” enough, Beetlejuice would rise up and whisk him into the Oval Office.
adlib 7 days ago

I know … whenever I see a Sarah Palin story at the top of a Website, I feel like “she’s an attention-seeking idiot, what more is there to say about her?”
haruko haruhara

AdLib – if only Beetlejuice had risen up and dragged him to hell…
choicelady

Ad, almost as satisfying as seeing Newt Gingrich and Santorum run Mittens though the wringer
funksands
