Nope, hiya VB!
adlib 7 days ago

How’s your new year coming along?
adlib 7 days ago

AD LIB!! You know, I was thinkin’….about your moniker…..? Wassup with that
vegasbabe

I mean who IS that guy?
vegasbabe

Double meaning. It’s from the movie poster of Brazil.
adlib 7 days ago

I figured out your user name! Ain’t I smart?
adlib 7 days ago

?hmmmm…I don’t get it! Not the movie “Boys From Brazil” right
vegasbabe

Nope. Hold on, I’ll show you a video…
adlib 7 days ago

my user name or my picture? and yes, you are indeed a very smart man as your posts have proven time and again…
vegasbabe

Here ya go:
adlib 7 days ago

Je suis Charlie!
glenn

LMAO….dont know this movie Ill have to check it out sometime!
vegasbabe

So what are we discussing tonite? Mitt Romney is seriously considering another run….that should be good for at least a few laughs!
vegasbabe

Hi Ad, Hi Las Vegas Babe, how’s everyone? Happy New Year, a little late.
glenn

Hey glenn!
adlib 7 days ago

Not late, just in time. Happy New Year to you as well Glenn! Hope all is good where your hailing from!
vegasbabe

This new vox populi is coooooool! I quite like it!
vegasbabe

LVB–which will come first? romney convicted of racketeering charges or a run for the presidency?
glenn

Alas my friend, he’ll never be convicted but on the good side he’ll never POTUS either! be
vegasbabe

LVB–A little cool here in the red state of GA. Lows in the teens, with the wind chill factor, we had a -1 temp yesterday morning. Other than that, I’m fine. How about you?
glenn

Oh dear…don’t make me confess to temps here in LV when you’ve just experienced -1….its…well, embarassing

vegasbabe

LVB–maybe he’ll never be convicted, but seriously–he’s going to run for president with racketeering charges hanging over his head? Of course, in teabagistanland, that’s a plus, but seriously? And, the best part is the charges are being filed by a private individual, not the government!
glenn

VB – Yep, I’m 47% sure Mitt will win if he runs again.
adlib 7 days ago

Other than enjoying ur temps, I’m as well as can be expected for an old lady! AdLib LOL
vegasbabe

Looks like CL is in the house, hello dear, how you be?
vegasbabe

Happy New Year everyone! Hope 2015 is off to a good start personally. Hi Vegasbabe!
choicelady

LVB–it’s okay about the temps. I used to live in the Keys and I wasn’t at all embarassed about touting the warm weather!
glenn

Glad you like it, VB!
adlib 7 days ago

glenn – how’s your weather now?
choicelady

Hey CL! How are you doing this evening?
adlib 7 days ago

Tired as usual but hanging in. How are YOU?
choicelady

Glenn well in that case, yesterday it was 72 ! BUT it may rain here for the next three days….yeah right!
vegasbabe

Ad–47% of us say “no to mittro!”
glenn

VB – if you don’t like the rain, send it to CA. We need MORE!
choicelady

glenn – MORE than 47% Just Say No to Mitt!
choicelady

CL I know right!!!
vegasbabe

CL–still cold, but at least the wind has died down. High today was a whopping 41 degrees! Supposed to warm up to the 60’s tomorrow, but then rain and 30’s again on Sunday.
glenn

Hey CL–glad you’re here with your tired self.
glenn

glenn – at least it appears you’ve missed the worst of the Polar Vortex. Middle of the country is teens or even single digits. I’m glad it’s not THAT bad.
choicelady

It’s mild and even warm here in LA…which sounds great until you remember we’re in a long drought.
adlib 7 days ago

Now this new vox automatically tells us where we are hailing from I noticed??? We’re coming up in the world! Before you know it, we’ll all be 1%ers LOL
vegasbabe

AdLib – I do worry. Sacramento is still ahead of normal, but it’s bee dry and will be dry for another two weeks.
choicelady

LVB–glad to hear someone is having some warm weather.
glenn

VB – yeah that’s VOX – jet setters all!
choicelady

Evening all
sillylittleme

Hi SLM – how are you? Hope you’re not freezing!
choicelady

VB – We spared no expense on our new Vox. It can even tell you what your favorite mixed drink is AND mix it.
adlib 7 days ago

Hey SLM–Happy New Year–a little late, but better late than never!
glenn

Beatlex….Edmonton….Canada or UK?
vegasbabe

Evenin’ slm!
adlib 7 days ago

AdLib – ooooh I want a tequila sunrise! Barring that a Bailey’s Irish Cream.
choicelady

Tequila Sunrise coming up!
adlib 7 days ago

AdLib…..looks like I’m gonna need to submit a donation huh? Its probably more than time!
vegasbabe

AdLib – TYVM!
choicelady

Ad–I’ll take the Bailey’s with some decaf coffee, please.
glenn

I’ll have what CL’s having thank you!

vegasbabe

Choice – fairly cold in northern MA yesterday was an insane 2 degrees at noon. -4 overnight. getting a bit better. 20s for the weekend and the pats game
sillylittleme

CL–TYVM????
glenn

glenn – One Baileys-Hold-The-Juice coming up!
adlib 7 days ago

VB – I lived in Pawtucket and Lawrence back in the 80s and remember bone cracking cold. You HAVE MY SYMPATHIES!
choicelady

glenn – TYVM – Thank You Very Much.
choicelady

CL dearest, I think you meant that for SLM….I’m in Vegas and have no complaints weather wise a’tole

vegasbabe

CL–thanks–I’m really sitting low in my seat tonight–just couldn’t figure that one out!
glenn

Happy New Year – glenn et al
sillylittleme

VB – yes, sorry -I DID mean it for SLM in MA.
choicelady

Good Friday evening, kids! Can’t remember the last time the furnace shut off here on the tundra. How’re you all?
kesmarn

hey kes – experiencing the same here
sillylittleme

Hey Kes! Glad at least you’re staying warm!
adlib 7 days ago

Very good kesmarn, thank you for askin’ and you?
vegasbabe

KES!!! Yes indeed – friends in Y’town are feeling the pain, too. So it makes CA whining about 40s very sloppy.
choicelady

Ad–I see Martin O’Malley is thinking of throwing his hat into the presidential ring. Didn’t someone here on VOX say how much s/he admired him?
glenn

glenn – that’s Sabreen who’s an O
choicelady

Doing well, VB. Not looking forward to the heating bill, but “I’ll think about that tomorrow…”
kesmarn

Sorry – and O’Malley supporter. I’m REALLY glad to see him in!
choicelady

CL whats an “O”
vegasbabe

Hey Kes–I’m trying to stay warm here in GA, too.
glenn

kes – the Scarlett O’Hara approach is always good.
choicelady

It’s worked so far, CL!
kesmarn

VB – hit the wrong key and sent it too soon. See the follow up.
choicelady

glenn – you have enough warm clothes?
sillylittleme

glenn – Yes, and O’Malley’s been talking about it for some time. I’ve heard good things about him, would really be healthy for the Dem Primary to have a variety of sharp, viable folks. Hillary very well may strumble and we’ll need a strong contender as our nom in any case.
adlib 7 days ago

Love the fact that O’Malley commuted those death sentences in MD. Good guy.
kesmarn

AdLib – “strumble”? THAT is a good word!
choicelady

A rumble with a strudel?
kesmarn

kes: YES that was very good on O’Malley’s part!
vegasbabe

kes – even better definition.
choicelady

kes

sillylittleme

SLM–Yes, after three and a half years up here, I have enough warm clothes. I have on my sweat pants, trouser socks, another pair of “footie” socks over those, my slippers, two turtleneck long-sleeved shirts and a sweatshirt, and that’s inside with the heat on!
glenn

glenn: WOW!!!
vegasbabe

glenn – see if you can get your hands on some fleece, less layers, stay warmer
sillylittleme

CL – Whoops! Never play with string when you write stumble. Or eat a strudel.
adlib 7 days ago

glenn – that is almost identical to MY outfit, and that’s with the 40s outside. We are having heating problems and keep the furnace low. My “Merry Christmas” present will be a new H/AC unit. Sigh.
choicelady

AdLib – I’m thinking strudel isn’t the problem. It’s perhaps the libations?
choicelady

CL–I think we have discovered in previous VOX conversations that we are of the same mind, so it doesn’t surprise me.
glenn

I see Sabreen!
choicelady

Maybe it was rum + strudel?
kesmarn

glenn – I do hope you feel all cozy like that!
adlib 7 days ago

Hiya funksands….ah…yeah, why does it say your chatting from the New york police department break room?
vegasbabe

hey harleigh – just in time, I just sparked up
sillylittleme

Funkie’s location changes weekly!
kesmarn

glenn – women of a certain age (cough) are allowed to put comfort over fashion especially when they are alone. And we STILL ROCK!
choicelady

Hello Planeteers! #FreeCommunityCollege

sabreen60

CL – I was drinking shots of Strolie…er…Stolie…
adlib 7 days ago

Harleigh! How are you!
choicelady

Ad–Yup, warm and cozy. The coffee and Bailey’s helps, too.
glenn

Bonjour! Bonsoir à vous tous belles dames!
funksands

hey sabreen and funk
sillylittleme

AdLib – yup. Knew it…
choicelady

Sabreen….YES! I love that idea!
vegasbabe

Merci, Monsieur le Funk!
kesmarn

funk – damn. Are you in Paris? Be careful!
choicelady

I used to cook with wine! Sometimes I put some in the food! WC Fields.
Harleigh

VBabe, its the quietest spot I could find with a wi-fi signal
funksands

Hey, Harleigh!
kesmarn

Harleigh – one of WC’s best lines.
choicelady

Hey Sabreen, Harleigh, Funk….Wow everyone’s coming in so quickly, I can’t keep up!
glenn

Funk – You are the King of Comedy in locations, always a good laugh!
adlib 7 days ago

Glenn, I know right? Good so many planeteers are here anyway!
vegasbabe

Bonsoir Monsieur Funk, et comment ca va?
adlib 7 days ago

LOVE your location, Funk – have they sussed out who you REALLY are?
choicelady

Yes it was my little chickadee. LOL
Harleigh

CL–Yes, we of a “certain age” have to stay comfortable!
glenn

I’m committing a crime just by being here CL, so they are ignoring me.
funksands

glenn – even with my back problems, I wore heels for the first time in 3 years and SURVIVED. It’s giving me confidence again.
choicelady

funk – good thing they’re on a work slowdown or you’d be toast.
choicelady

Hey Sabreen! Yes, I’m very pleased about Obama’s free community college proposition. It would cost a fraction of any war we’ve fought and of course, be a lot more constructive.
adlib 7 days ago

Funk–isn’t the break room pretty crowded–what with all that “work stoppage” and all. Are the cops facing you or have they turned their backs on you?
glenn

funk: HA! Careful there son…..you are in dangerous territory!
vegasbabe

Ad, je ne ai aucun commentaire cochon anglais
funksands

glenn – the NYPD turning backs on Funk might be his best option.
choicelady

CL, they’re all watching the “Bachelor”
funksands

funk – LOL!!!
choicelady

CL–I bought a pair of boots recently with a wedge heel, and I’ve worn them a couple of times, but I always feel as though I’m walking funny in them. Usually can’t wait to get them off.
glenn

glenn – it’s taking off the “killer clothes” that has become the best sensation ever.
choicelady

Glenn, I think I’m in a safe spot! LOL
funksands

Ad/Sabreen – wish he’d expand it to all state and federal owned colleges
sillylittleme

BRB
funksands

SLM – the college issue has to go through Congress. Like THAT will happen…
choicelady

CL–Depends on whom you’re taking them off for!
glenn

SLM – outside of the military academies, I’m not sure there ARE any federal colleges.
choicelady

glenn – for some reason wedges are the bane of my existence. I seem to find my way either face down or on my bottom hugging the ground.

sabreen60

CL exactly! But nonetheless, it’s a fantastic idea! I love our Prez!
vegasbabe

glenn – Ohhhhhhh tooo true!
choicelady

Sabreen — sorry, got called away for a bit — great news about the community college plan!
kesmarn

Sabreen – NO ONE can walk in wedgies.
choicelady

True Choice, but we need to do something to educate the boatload of kids…
sillylittleme

VB – I totally agree. It is a wonderful idea. CA had that for several decades, and we were the best educated work force in America. Bring it back nationally!
choicelady

Ah oh, we lost funksands…..given his location I’d call the cops but I think we’d be safer calling ghost busters!
vegasbabe

Sabreen–glad to hear I’m not the only one who can’t wear wedgies. I just though it was too many years of only wearing sandals in the Keys!
glenn

All – I can walk in wedgies. Actually find them better than stems
sillylittleme

Now if we can only get the funding for the community college idea…. 🙁
kesmarn

SLM–you are indeed a special woman!
glenn

SLM – even with that, there will be huge populations that don’t benefit which is why I’m working on worker ownership of business. I’m the point person in CA for 1worker1vote, the US Steelworkers/Mondragon Coop Corporation US initiatiave. You can check it out at 1worker1vote.org
choicelady

glenn – no just short, wedgies were always preferable…
sillylittleme

SLM – you CAN? Wow – I am impressed.
choicelady

slm – I watched/listened to PBO’s speech in TN. The Repub governor and legislative have initiated the free 2 year community college program. Senator Lamar Alexander (R) was in the audience grinning from ear to ear. However, he later said the community college thing is good for “individual states” but not on the fed level. Republicans will be Republicans.
sabreen60

people just laugh and point when I wear my wedgies or stems!

Harleigh

Sabreen, Kes–I admit I didn’t read the whole article, but from the headlines I read, I thought the community college funding was paid for somehow. Maybe I’m just doing “republican” math.
glenn

“legislature”
sabreen60

Sabreen – I heard about the TN effort. But of course Alexander doesn’t get that it IS a state initiative just funded nationally.
choicelady

thanks choice – its about time employees got a bigger cut of the profits
sillylittleme

Harleigh–but, which do YOU prefer?
glenn

SLM – they would get ALL the profit as the owners.
choicelady

uh my gold sandals LMAO
Harleigh

choice – even better
sillylittleme

Harleigh..hee-hee-heee
vegasbabe

funksands

Harleigh–be sure you don’t wear your gold sandals with your silver choker. You know that is a serious faux pas!
glenn

And unlike Employee Stock Option Plans, every person, janitor to CEO, gets ONE vote. Different amounts of pay and money but only ONE VOTE on how the company runs.
choicelady

How about Obummer and his COMMIE UNITY Colleges??
funksands

Sabreen – Lamar also said that cures for cancer are fine for individual states but not as national policy.
adlib 7 days ago

funk – we were just celebrating the community college issue. Catch up dear.
choicelady

Ad–lamar really didn’t say that, did he?
glenn

funk….you tryin’ to start somethin’? LOL
vegasbabe

Choice – awesome, I’ll checkout the site later
sillylittleme

Damn….
funksands

AdLib – I can imagine Lamar saying just that!
choicelady

Hey! Did you all see I’m in the NYPD break room??? Huh?
funksands

funk – yes, dear. We saw….
choicelady

Andy Borowitz said that the community college plan was an Obummer plot to make Americans smarter, according to GOP sources. Nefarious.
kesmarn

How bout that Iraq War? Crazy huh?
funksands

funk – I no longer see you, did you move?
sillylittleme

AdLib – Well there you go. At least his idiocy is consistent.
sabreen60

Last summer on a dare I wore a Speedo out on Hollywood Beach! Hundreds, mostly Canadians, went temporarily blind. LOL
Harleigh

kes – yup. Evil doin’s making people smart. That damned Obama.
choicelady

Kes–OMG–we can’t have America smarter. Who would vote for republicans? Damn that Obama.
glenn

funk – forget it, there you are
sillylittleme

Funk, Tippecanoe and Tyler too!
kesmarn

Kes, instantly conservatives “decoded” the Presidents message to mean “free college for Obama phone recipients”
funksands

Harleigh! So YOU are the reason for the temporary Canadian eye black out. Wow.
choicelady

Here we are together SLM. Don’t ever forget
funksands

They’re quick, those conservatives!
kesmarn

funk – spot on
sillylittleme

kes – can’t put nothin’ over on them conservatives, nope.
choicelady

Kes, dawn is just a government false flag for impending dark
funksands

It’s all a huge plot.
kesmarn

Conservatives are like banks. The only people that deserve any money are those that don’t need it.
funksands

Kes–OOOhhhh, good one!

glenn

I hate stupid. I really do
sillylittleme

funk – impending dark? GREAT. That’s right up with’preborn babies’. With that attitude, we’re all just ‘predead’.
choicelady

Choice – aren’t we though?
sillylittleme

I was just joking. But Lamar did say that preventing hypocrites was fine for individual states but not federally.
adlib 7 days ago

CL, you are catching on…
funksands

“That’s Hedley”
funksands

Well slm you must really hate Ms. Graham who said the Paris terror attacks are Obama’s fault.
sabreen60

Ad – keep ’em coming
sillylittleme

SLM – indeed which means we should not bother working, spending, being good citizens. Just plan our funerals and be done with it.
choicelady

sabreen – she is such a drama queen
sillylittleme

Funk –

adlib 7 days ago

Funk – second what Ad said
sillylittleme

Choice –

sillylittleme

Choice, capitalism gives us all the best opportunity to buy the best damn funeral possible.
funksands

funk – that’s what makes America GREAT. Good funerals.
choicelady

One GOP candidate from Arkansas said that this country was founded by wealthy men who had all the authority and represented the rest of the people. That was his definition of democracy. Why did we bother with that whole Revolution thing, then. Dang! We had a perfectly good monarchy going already.

So are freedom fries called french fries again?
sillylittleme

CL – Have you seen the movie “Sunset Limited”. You sound like “Black” (Tommy Lee Jones)
sabreen60

Sabreen–Everything is Obama’s fault. Except, of course, the improving economy, the falling unemployment rate, and the falling uninsured rate. All of those things are due to the gop’s stellar stewardship of the last six years, according to the turtle.
glenn

Damn, can’t remember how to post a picture.
funksands

Sabreen – no I’ve NOT seen that. I’ll try to get it!
choicelady

glenn – yes, I loved Miss Graham’s attemtp to usurp all credit for PBO’s work. He must have been an obnoxious little boy/girl stealing other kids’ homework and cheating off their tests.
choicelady

Funk – Just cremate me and put my ashes in a tupperware container.
sabreen60

choice – you so bad
sillylittleme

Ad, that’s awesome.
funksands

glenn, Mark Shield was mocking Yertle the Turtle tonight for saying that the American people had spent 59 months anticipating a GOP Congress — thus the economic improvement last fall.
kesmarn

Sabreen, you get a filthy 3-day bender from me. I’ll be hungover for weeks.
funksands

Sabreen – I have Tupperware! I’ll come get what’s left of you! If I’m deceased, I’ll make sure you’re my heir.
choicelady

Kes–I beg to differ with that goper. This country was founded by slave owners who yearned to be free.
glenn

kes – that is TOO FUNNY!
choicelady

glenn – oh the humanity! Slave owners kept imprisoned by their imprisoning. Oh woe!
choicelady

glenn, you’re right! You’d think — being from Arkansas — he’d know that historical fact.
kesmarn

kes – another loon heading up a segment of congress
sillylittleme

Funk

sabreen60

Kes–love Mark Shield’s response to the turtle’s comments!
glenn

You guys see this? Koalas with burned paws from Aussie brushfires

funksands

Even koalas need a mani-pedi now and then…
kesmarn

Funk–I did see that picture. All I can say is awwww!
glenn

funk – how sad
sillylittleme

poor things
Harleigh

Solution?
funksands

Awww…
kesmarn

CL – Okay. I’ll change the arrangements. I was going to let hubby keep my ashes in his gym bag cuz it’s not being used for anything else.
sabreen60

funk – chocolate?
sillylittleme

Sabreen–your hubby can keep your ashes in the tupperware container in the gym bag.
glenn

Koalas with Mittens!!!
funksands

Sabreen – his gym bag? Oh, honey you deserve SO much more – Tupperware for sure!

Sabreen – I.Totally.Agree. Love you, funk, but you’re weird. It’s your charm though.
choicelady

CL – That’s what I/m talking about, them bloomin’ koalas!
adlib 7 days ago

CL, well we had the hostage situation a few weeks ago when the gunman killed 2 people, but got taken down, rather like how the Kosher-deli guy was. We have a large Muslim population, not as large as some countries, but they’re 99% nice, law abiding people, with the usual few ratbags spoiling it for them.
pinkpantheroz

PPO – we held a vigil with the Muslim community here for the people in Australia and the children in Pakistan. The Muslim community is heartbroken by both events. I am so sorry for that happening to you all!

kesmarn

Oh kes – I’m so sorry. Humans are not suppose to live in those temperatures, IMO.
sabreen60

We just had a Bush, one President ago and it didn’t work out too well. And Jebby thinks people are saying, “If only we could go back to the good old Bush days when I lost my savings, house and job! Now those were the days!”
adlib 7 days ago

Sabreen – Mitt is also being touted as a replacement for Barbara Boxer in the Senate in 2016. Pinup Boy Brown is apparently considering moving here to run, too.
choicelady

Ad–do shrubs only “bloom” every eight years?
glenn

I sure hope not, AdLib! (On the question of another Bush prez). Fool us once, shame on you. Fool us twice, shame on us. Fool us three times and we are declared certified masochists.
kesmarn

CL – Surely you jest!
sabreen60

glenn – if they bloom every 8 years, can we bring in the Round Up every 7th year?
choicelady

Sabreen – nope. Those two names are being floated as Boxer’s ‘replacement’.
choicelady

CL – That’s pretty ridiculous. Do they not understand CA is a dark blue state that doesn’t like phonies?
adlib 7 days ago

Kes–I think we’ve been declared certified masochists already. Hence….the republican congress.
glenn

“In a world gone mad, 1 man takes it upon himself to drag us into Iraq 1…..more….time..
funksands

adlib 7 days ago

Funk – I heard Mitt is looking for a campaign manager. You interested?
sabreen60

You know it! I’ll do a GREAT job for him!
funksands

AdLib – dark blue? Not so much as we’d hope. GOP made some gains in state legislature. And we DID have Arnold! So never take it for granted.
choicelady

When does Boxer step down?
funksands

I will wreak havoc if Scott Brown moves here. I promise that.
choicelady

HA!
funksands

Kes – It just ain’t gonna happen. Bush won’t even win the Repub primary, he’s way too old school elitist-posing-as-populist. Huckabee and Cruz will tear him apart.
adlib 7 days ago

funk – she will be done 2016. Because it’s a prez election year, no GOP has much hope, but Feinstein is midterm – 2018, and that’s the one to worry about.
choicelady

That’ll be fun to watch, AdLib!
kesmarn

AdLib – who will be the most likely candidate in 2016 for GOP nom?
choicelady

CL, you think Kamala will run for her seat?
funksands

Funk–I believe Boxer’s term is up in 2016–she says she isn’t going to run for re-election, and since we’ve already had congressional elections, I”m assuming her term will be up in two more years. However, you know what they say about those who assume.
glenn

CL – Ahnold won the first time with a small percentage of the vote and did win the second time against a truly awful and weak Dem but he ran as a liberal Republican. Something that neither Romney nor Brown could do.
adlib 7 days ago

glenn – you’re correct, but it’s the 2018 vacancy I worry about. Until Dems actually understand they MUST VOTE, we are vulnerable.
choicelady

Meg Whitman’s revving up her ATM card as we speak
funksands

And her credit limit is “Infinity.”
kesmarn

AdLib – Arnold got 18% of the total eligible vote, but that is ALL who voted at ALL in November! Dems suck at midterms, and if Feinstein retires at age 85, it will be serious.
choicelady

Funk – Geez! They’re coming out the woodwork.
sabreen60

funk – OMG please do NOT bring up Whitman or I’ll bring up dinner.
choicelady

CL – That’s a good question. I wouldn’t be surprised to see the syndrome we saw last time, where one after another Repub candidate was hot then not. It seems like a Wheel of Fortune thing this time but I find it very hard to see how anyone who doesn’t espouse far right rhetoric will win it. That ;et’s Jebby out.
adlib 7 days ago

AdLib – I[‘m just thinking Jebbie will capitulate to the Right to secure the nom.
choicelady

CL–You know, I thought Dems understood how important it is to vote in midterms after the 2010 elections, but this past November proved me wrong. However, I’ve seen a couple of articles talking about how the progressives are trying to take back the Dem party, so maybe there is hope. I do think Dems have to get out and tout their accomplishments, instead of running from them and letting the repubs set the narrative.
glenn

Sometimes I wonder if Ohio Gov. John Kasich will end up being the dark horse nominee…
kesmarn

Ben Carson said “millions” of people want him to run.

sabreen60

Funk – I hjave heard that Kamala may run for that Senate seat. CL can give you a little background on her, she is very popular but has her issues. Still, she would beat any Repub.
adlib 7 days ago

In what country, Sabreen?

kesmarn

Scott Walker is going to run. He’s very very popular with the wing nut AND far right base
funksands

Ad, I think Gavin would save himself for Governor wouldn’t he? That’s a better stepping stone to President than Senator right?
funksands

I hope that drag out that audio of Walker’s phone conversation with the phony “Koch brother”…

sabreen60

adlib 7 days ago

Funk–isn’t little scotty still running from criminal charges? Or, has he managed to throw all his subordinates under the bus?
glenn

Is it true that Palin’s wearing a coat made of orphans and claims it shows how you can make something that’s worthless, worthwhile?
adlib 7 days ago

CL, I’m wondering how much we are underestimating the effect of voter suppression in the last election
funksands

hey murph
Harleigh

I will go on record now and say ANYONE supporting Kamala Harris is making a HUGE mistake. She is a fraud, a showboater, and a duplicitous enemy of justice.
choicelady

20 million more people voted for a Democrat for Senate than a Republican
funksands

murphthesurf3

kes – I had forgotten how he got punked. I’m sure some enterprising Dem will tweet it.
sabreen60

funk – suppression was HUGE but NOT in CA, and only 18% of eiligable voters voted.
choicelady

Hi Murph!
funksands

lowest turnout since 1943
Harleigh

Hi funk.
murphthesurf3

Harleigh, is that true? Wow
funksands

funk – she is not trustworthy. I’ve dealt with her directly, and she is a horrible person.
choicelady

Good enough for me.
funksands

I read the same statistic, Harleigh!
kesmarn

Funk – Voter suppression was both plotted and voluntary last year. In 2016, I think many will turnout for Dems…they’ll have lived through 2 years of a Repub assault in Congress, they will be very motivated then.
adlib 7 days ago

Hiya Murph!
sabreen60

Hey Murph!
adlib 7 days ago

AdLib – suppression was not a factor in CA. And yet it was JUST as awful here.
choicelady

Hello Sabreen and Ad Lib….
murphthesurf3

Harleigh – Kinda hard for Dems to be excited when the main theme Dems ran on is how much the Dem who was President sucked.
adlib 7 days ago

Funk–although those figures are true; it’s also true that because small states have the same representaton in the Senate as large states, that 20 million figure does not necessarily say that there was something “wrong” with the election. That’s why Dems do better in Presidential elections because it’s country wide instead of individual states.
glenn

CL – I remember PBO saying in 2010 not to give the keys back to Repubs. Maybe he needed to explain what he meant. That not voting IS giving the keys back.
sabreen60

AdLib – i cannot get over the rejection of this successful president. Had they embraced his accomplishments instead of fleeing they’d have won.
choicelady

Glenn, you sound like you went to one of them there COMMIE UNITY Colleges!!
funksands

CL – That’s what I just suggested to Harleigh, Dems ran on nothing, none of the successes of Dems and Obama, just on hating Obama. I think that made Dems stay at home all over.
adlib 7 days ago

adlib – no shit…. grimes could not even admit she voted democrat!!! are you kiddin me??
Harleigh

Sabreen – told a friend his NOT voting is accepting the GOP, and his answer is that they’re both the same.
choicelady

I hear that all the time too, CL.
kesmarn

This is terrible to say, but I think a lot of Dems are secretly relieved to be in the minority again.
funksands

Harleigh – a wise woman (Grimes isn’t) would have made hay out of Mitt instead of refusing to say she voted for PBO.
choicelady

Can you elaborate, funk?
kesmarn

Funk–guilty as charged. Started out in one of them Commie Unity Colleges!
glenn

CL – I read that a fair number of people when asked couldn’t name the Vice President. So….
sabreen60

funk – there is a ‘victim mentality’ among Dems, yes.
choicelady

Too many elected Democrats don’t seem comfortable using and wielding political power. They seem to prefer the opposition role. Just an impression
funksands

Sabreen – I’m less worried about that VP ignorance. It was true when I was a kid in the 50s, too.
choicelady

Funk – The sad thing about the dynamics of politics is that it is easier to be the minority that can attack 100% of the time for all that’s wrong in the country and blame the majority, they love running on, “Kick the bums out and elect us, we’ll fix everything.” Then when they’re the majority, the tables are turned.
adlib 7 days ago

funk – the Congressman who represents the district where my office is is one of those Dems who voted to overturn Dodd-Frank and kill ACA. He’s a jerk but DID get re-elected.
choicelady

Ad, et al–I am so pissed off at those cowardly Dems who ran away fromthe POTUS and Dem accomplishments. Grimes especially. I hope Grimes never runs for another office. I thought she could really have beaten the turtle, instead she turned out to BE the turtle herself.
glenn

Funk….I know one Dem who is happy to be in the minority, Barack Obama….
murphthesurf3

Ad, true. But the GOP seems very comfortable in that role.
funksands

A woman made the comment that she’s not getting much of a cost of living raise because of President Obama. Someone said that it’s Congress who made the decision. Then this woman said well it was more before Obama became President. She didn’t know that we had a Dem Congress from 2006. People are clueless.
sabreen60

AdLib – I think that’s the most insightful comment I’ve read. It’s easier to be out and a naysayer than actually govern. Well done!
choicelady

cl grimes was a big dissappointment
Harleigh

CL – I’d say there was more of a “coward mentality” beneath the “victim mentality”. Nothing is more disheartening to Dem voters than seeing their candidates shiver in fear and co-opt the Repub message in desperation. Have a spine, Dems, no one supports wimps.
adlib 7 days ago

Harleigh – she sure was!
choicelady

Murph, his constraints seemed to have melted away. One day there will be a Democrat who will learn that lesson while in the majority and govern like it.
funksands

AdLib – yup. I’ll buy the coward mentality.
choicelady

Do you think Dems are perpetual hippies, maybe? Always anti-authority? (Even when they hold the authority?)
kesmarn

Ad–and that’s exactly the problem the repubs now have. They now have to govern, and have started out by trying to make Social Security look insolvent, so they can “fix” it.
glenn

CL – I meant if they don’t know who the VP is how are they going to know how the government works.
sabreen60

Kes, you are skirting around a truth there somewhere
funksands

Sabreen – we no longer know how democracy works. The end of Civics was the end of intelligent voting and citizenship.
choicelady

Here is somthing that should shake us all up: a GOP insider friend (who hates where his party is going) told m that the big buzz right now at the state level is about FIXING THE ELECTORAL COLLEGE…TIE ELECTORAL VOTES TO CONGRESSIONAL DISTRICTS!!!!
murphthesurf3

Thanks CL!
adlib 7 days ago

Murph – we already had that effort in CA to do proportional Electoral college distribution. Horrible.
choicelady

lots and lots of dems are stoners! Why just today I was a a stop sign over two hours waiting for it to turn green.
Harleigh

Harleigh – LOL!!!
choicelady

When you add the perennial circle firing squad mentality to that (where we always attack our own), that is pretty disheartening…
kesmarn

Murph–the “fixing” of the electoral college has been floating around for a while now. But there’s no doubt in my mind that this gop congress will try very hard to get something passed for that, especially since they have already gerrymandered all the districts.
glenn

Yep Murph, I said a few years ago that the biggest race in America is the race for the GOP to bar the barn door before they can be permanently removed as enemies of the state
funksands

FUNK- I think that Obama’s people told the losing Senators that running away from THEIR record, the Dem record, is bringing disaster on their campaigns..and when they lost I don’t think obama had many kind words for any of them.
murphthesurf3

kes – there is also the circular firing squad of always reading one another’s ‘analyses’ and never learning anything new.
choicelady

Murph, I don’t think the President has said a damn word to them
funksands

Harleigh, that would explain the slow walk to the polls in November… LOL!
kesmarn

Murph, funk, why the hell should he?
pinkpantheroz

Good point, CL.
kesmarn

Funk–speaking of enemies of the state, anyone know why the “liberal” press didn’t cover Ms Graham’s statement that s/he would follow the lead of the Isreali prime minister rather than his/her own President? Why didn’t that get much more press?
glenn

glenn – Except I don’t think the Repubs want to fix SS, they want to cut SNAP. And did anyone see McConnell finally admitting that the economy was improving…but claiming it was because people saw Repubs were taking over Congress! SO it’s thanks to the Repubs winning an election, not the hard work of Obama and Dems in the face of Repubs blocking all they could? Wow, what brazen liars.
adlib 7 days ago

It’s still startling how fast Dems ran from the single most popular national elected figure in the nation
funksands

All – I am now certifiably TOO DAMNED OLD to go through another period of GOP destruction of America. I seriously will think about leaving if they gain ground.
choicelady

Glenn, Funk, Choice…the American Legislative Executive Council has model legislation for referendums in states that will alter the College and it has a the PR campaign ready to go. Big Money, Koch et. al. money is behind it.
murphthesurf3

funksands

choicelady

CL!!! Take me too!!! LOL
Harleigh

Ad–Yeah, we talked about the turtle’s comments a while back here on VOX tonight. I still can’t understand why the press is not calling the liars out, though.
glenn

Glenn, the press expects nothing from the GOP, Dems make softer targets
funksands

Harleigh – you’re in darling. Hop on board!
choicelady

My wife has made her Bush3 threat already…
funksands

funk – chuck todd said they don’t challenge GOP because they’re mean and retaliate. Dems better learn some of that.
choicelady

Funk, PPO….I think Obama has decided that his legacy is HIS to make or lose at this point and he is willing to run over ANYONE, GOP or DEM to secure what he has done….I sense real confusion on all sides in regard to him.
murphthesurf3

choicelady

Funk- one of the reasons Dems do not focus on local elections is because the key to those used to be the unions and the Dems have not found a replacement….the GOP created the Tea Party. AND the Dems reject the discipline required to pull off local elections in the way the GOP has.

The GOP has numerous fields of the Rich to draw from…..the individual billionaire, the millionaire organizations, the corporations jumping into the PACS…the only way we survive is to wean our voters from TV which is where most of the money goes.
murphthesurf3

George Lakoff called out lefty billionaires/millionaires in 2004 for being so damned cheap and controlling. the Right throws gobs of money at groups and demands no accounting for it. We have to do 25 page forms for $10,000.

murphthesurf3

Murph – There is a maximum effectiveness (and a finite number of ad spots that matter) for tv advertising. Only so much that makes a difference and only so many ads in a day to buy. So past that point, they could pour billions in but they could only buy ads at 2 am between infomercials. Money doesn’t give an infinite amount of influence, it is limited by practical issues.

murphthesurf3

Murph – By now, it would be nice if people had gotten past the concept of group blame but many are so narrow minded, tribal-like in their thinking, that they can only think in binary ways. “Oh, a Muslim was a terrorist like a lot of Muslims are, so all Muslims are evil.” Moronic.
adlib 7 days ago

Night Sabreen, have a wonderful weekend!
adlib 7 days ago

Careful, Ad! Next thing you’ll be saying that not all Republicans are greedy, manipulative arseholes!
pinkpantheroz

As I’ve written at The Planet, when was the last time that people claimed all Christians or white people were evil and terrorists because one of them committed a terrorist act? The prejudice is so acute.
adlib 7 days ago

PPO – I happen to know a man named Arthur Hobbs who is a Republican and isn’t greedy. So…there’s one.
adlib 7 days ago

Ad lib- true, but a piece of what I am saying applies to Muslims as well. One of my doctors is a Muslim (actually three of them are but I know this one very well). It is he who made this point to me. Modern Muslims have to make this distinction and do so out lout Why? It makes clear that they recognize that Islam is the soil from which extremist, zealous, doctrinaire jihadist grew and which continues to nurture and protect it. AND they have to point out the nature of modern, enlightenment Islam but they fear doing so.
murphthesurf3

Ad, you’re right. It seems every generation needs to have a boogy man to fear and loathe. If only they realise that the other side look at them the same way.
pinkpantheroz

Murph – I don’t know if “Modern Muslim” draws the line though. ISIS is very modern and very tech savvy. I think it is the same thing we run into with all other religions, “Extremists” and “Fundamentalists” who by nature, see their religion in an archaic way which is of course, more brutal and inhumane.
adlib 7 days ago

Well, I’m away to get the newspaper and some cheesy comestibles, so I’ll say good night to all and have a very Happy and Healthy 2015
pinkpantheroz

Ad: Contemporary Islam or Islamic Modernism has been described as “the first Muslim ideological response” attempting to reconcile Islamic faith with modern Western values such as nationalism, democracy, civil rights, gender equality, secularism, rationality,, general equality, progress and freedom of religion. It features a “critical reexamination of the classical conceptions and methods of jurisprudence”, a new contextual and evolutionary approach to Islamic theology and Quranic exegesis/study. This movement has its roots in the 19th century renovation of Islamic thought called the salafiyya movement Modernism differs from secularism in that it insists on the importance of religious faith in both private and public life, while still embracing contemporary European institutions, social processes and values.

adlib 7 days ago

PPO You too friend from afar.
murphthesurf3

Murph – It shouldn’t be a surprise to anyone out there that there are more evolved people in any religion. What the typical person needs to know is that you don’t assign the blame of an individual on a group…because it’s wrong and next time it can be used against you.
adlib 7 days ago

Ad- I agree but what my doctor friend was pushing is the need for honest on all sides. One point he made is that it is just as hard for a modern Muslim to define the nature of Islamic modernity as it is to condemn Jihadism.
murphthesurf3

I take it that Beatlex is not really here.
murphthesurf3

Group blame comes from prejudice, it validates the fear of the other. So, what religion and ethnicity are Americans most afraid of? The ones they associate with 9/11 and other terroist acts. So, Muslims and Middle Easterners get to be broadly brushed as all being blood thirsty lunatics and terrorists.
adlib 7 days ago

Ad, I agree. But what my doc and friend is pushing is more than understanding where hostility toward muslims comes from and more than just being tolerant. He is walking on both sides of the street…
murphthesurf3

Murph – I remember Catholics struggling with condemning the Catholic Church for it’s role in the widespread pedophelia. It’s always difficult to turn against many in ones own religion and not be seen as a new adversary of the whole religion.
adlib 7 days ago

It is and it is necessary.
murphthesurf3

Yep, very difficult but who has more credibility and import in criticizing a religion than those within it?
adlib 7 days ago

Outsiders can always be portrayed as having bad motives.
adlib 7 days ago

Ad…yes which is why my friend was driven (nicely) from his Mosque two years ago and is now the head of it….growing awareness.
murphthesurf3

That’s good to hear. We talk about politics being local, not a bad way to deal with what’s been going on than Muslims being local in their education or others about what their values are and how most of them want the same things for themselves as most others do.
adlib 7 days ago

My doc’s mosque is an interesting mix of the very well to do and the labouring class (most new immigrants) and you can guess now the modernist/jihadist dialogue breaks down along those lines in the mosque. My friend has broken that only honest dialogue within that community can generate the energy necessary to be seen by the wider community as being willing to grapple with a blight on their name.
murphthesurf3

It’s got to be a challenge but it makes sense that the first hurdle is bringing those inside the mosque together first then reflecting that community sensibility to those outside the mosque.
adlib 7 days ago

And that is enormously difficult…the Islamic communty is deeply, deeply divided with fracture lines that we cannot even begin to name.
murphthesurf3

murphthesurf3

It is daunting. When extremism is on the rise in a religion, it is hard to convince some that the future is not in extremism. The extremists are liars, in every religion, they always promise the moon as long as others follow them.
adlib 7 days ago

That sounds pretty annoying. Get some rest and have a great weekend!
adlib 7 days ago

murphthesurf3

and yes it is daunting….my eyes have been widened.
murphthesurf3

It’s a very long road ahead for Islam but like all other religions, they’ll get past the violent extremism eventually.
