Fools Day Friday has me feeling eclectic and a bit like fooling around with today’s theme. So many styles and variations to listen to and you just listens to only one?
What is your favorite set of styles? Jazz, Rock, Blues, Chamber, Roots….. Your pick.
Rolling Stones – 2120 South Michigan Avenue
Now this is completely foolish.
Ricky Nelson Sings Fools Rush In
JOHN PRINE BONNAROO 2010 ILLEGAL SMILE
Zagreb Chamber Music Festival: Smetana Piano Trio – 1st mov.
Pick a set and have a happy Friendly-Foolish-Friday.

I’ll put this up here.
A couple of the most famous drum salutes in pipe drumming
Alex Duthart – the legend (the myth goes that on Johnny Carson, Buddy Rich brought up his name out of nowhere as a drummer better than him – who could do things on one drum he couldn’t with his whole kit)

Shotts and Dykehead Caledonian Pipe Band (with Jim Kilpatrick) – it gets really good a few minutes in.

Interestingly enough, Truth, the rudiments for pipe drumming come from Basel drumming – including the famous “Swiss windmills”.
While these guys are renegades from the Fasnacht tradition, they come from it and are quite the item – their sticks are on fire… no, literally!

I’ll get to tabla legends some other time. 😉
Here’s one.
Buddy Rich and Allah Rakha – Rangeela
Awesome, Khirad! I had to watch the Top Secret one twice – simply amazing!
And of course I’m looking forward to your tabla legend lecture.
Khirad-love that 2nd vid! They are so happy and great drummers!
Good evening, and after spending all day at a track meet it’s nice to relax. World Party, “Ship of Fools’
And while this isn’t music, it’s more than fitting for Fool’s Day.
If ya need to, hum something while you watch it.
And…
Fool for the city ~ Foghat
I didn’t see this one listed here. If someone scooped it already and I stepped on it, my apologies
I’m a fool to cry~ Stones
So folks, this is what I play. And this is what we aspire to. But this guy is unreal. Starts warming up @ 1:00 and the juggling starts @ 2:30ish.

Teen phenom Elizabeth Shaw
Wow, Khirad – that IS unreal! Excellent! When he shows the movements in slow motion I became aware as to how difficult this really is. Amazing!
Here’s some more drumming for you, Khirad:
These drums are played at the “Basler Fasnacht”, the 3-day carnival of my home town. There are lots of performances before and after the Fasnacht, and here is one of them: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6vn6URp0QTk
and some more: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3TQnutf3nKA
And there is some totally different drumming, The Japanese “Kodo”:
And in another change of culture, yet we’re still talking percussion: Zakir Hussain and Erik Harland:
***Edit: Here’s yet another Jim Kilpatrik. That guy is just unbelievable!
That guy is a total drum virtuoso. The one-handed drumming was something you would hardly believe until you actually saw it! Amazing!
Loved the reaction shots of the audience.

From one of their best albums.
Score. How’d that slip my mind?
And they were all stellar save for Soft Parade.
I think they were one of the first bands to fuse rock and jazz.
And Traffic (Low Spark of High Heeled Boys)
Another great album.
Here’s the song that I practice, practice, practice on the guitar until I get it right –
Eric Clapton – Wonderful Tonight

And this –
Wonderful Tonight is one of my favorite Clapton tunes. Very romantic.
Oh, huge smiles. Wonderful
KT showing clips from “The Last Waltz” makes me think of what I consider to be the best rockumenary ever made, “The Kids Are All Right”. Here’s the Who, being FOOLish!
