We have narrowed down the wide and wonderful list of suggestions for names for an activist group to 9 finalists. Please vote for your favorite. We will close the voting on Thursday of next week and, unless there’s a tie, announce the winning name next Friday.
Here now, in alphabetical order, are the finalists:

When we get the website for the group, how about the widget on the the cost for elections?

Citizens United and what they Dems propose. I missed this, perhaps you may like to red the proposed bill.
“Democrats preview Citizens United bill”
Some of the highlights.
Thanks, Bito, and yes, I saw it. But I really feel it is WAAAAY to little. And I told them so.
Cher, I agree with you. It is far too weak. My first answer was poor. Too many bills running though my little brain today and I forgot what bill i was responding to.
The starting point is “corporations are not people (they don’t have belly buttons)” Not “how can I appease the voters, make them think I have done something, and still be able to rake in the millions for my reelection.”
Corporations are a statutory creation, they we not “endowed with certain rights from their creator”.
Progress is Progressive.
Yes, it’s very weak and doesn’t do anything to prevent corporations from spending unlimited billions on ads.
Just can’t understand why so many people are angry at Congress for not addressing serious problems.
I wrote this email to the group called APE and got this reply today.
“I’m working with a group that was spurred on by the recent Supreme Court Decision giving corporations even more of a say in our elections and was looking for kindred souls.”

I have the same question about the “Coffee Party Movement” Their web page is not real active, but their “facebook” page seems to be adding members.

Jonathan Schneider has made a documentary that we’re going to try to find at the library, but from what we’ve read about it, it even has McCain in it.
The fact that he wrote dr’graz back and asked about our group is awesome, I think.
I wonder if we should invite him sooner to PPOV and maybe he’d have some opinions on how to get the movement going.
Maybe he’d be interested in helping.
He might be able to help with a youtube vid, too.
(Looked at the site for the walk and it only tells about the 2009 walk at the zoo. Are there plans yet for this year’s walk?)
Watched the trailer at the APE site. Looks like it may be good.
(Phoenix Chapter already had their walk this year.
It was in Sedona. Why Sedona? That is not Phoenix.)
Feel free to speak with whoever you’d like about what we’ve been discussing here.
My proposition is that until there is a name, a mission statement, a specific agenda, a formal membership and an initial protest accomplished, it is not really a group yet that can be considered concrete or could be successfully promoted.
By the end of this week, a name will have been chosen. The mission statement should be voted on as well to officially codify it.
Then, people can present and discuss what they propose the specific agenda of the group should be, what is its specific goal and how does it intend to accomplish that.
Once that is approved, then a protest could be conceived to advance the agenda. The protest(s) should be on video to edit into a video on YouTube.
At that point, a legitimate activist group exists, has video of its first protest which can be used to reflect the character of the group and promote it to others to join, the media to cover, etc.
I’m old school on this stuff, build the house first before you invite people to move into it.
Not to be a brat or anything, but did anyone realize that Americans United – AU – the symbol for gold was never mentioned as an option?
LMAO
Ooh, not bad. Could’ve come up with some good slogans for that.
We talked about Americans United — which was my favorite — and it seems people thought that because it was already being used, we should come up with something new.
It’s still my favorite!
Can we do a run off?
Hi Nellie!
I remember that not very people liked the name and think since it is being used that we are better off voting on another name.
I was just being a troublemaker!
😆
😆
At least we have some really good choices up for a vote.
GROW rocks!
I voted for no. 3, however, I also think it would work shortened to:
Restore Our American Democracy (ROAD)
I just voted logged out. I never noticed that before.
Yep, anyone can vote, even visitors.
Well hells bells, if I knew that, I’d’ve asked friends and family to vote!
Think I will write up a mellow-yellow sticky thing and email people tomorrow and tell them to come here and vote!
(feel zany psychedelic high from the music thread! got a contact high going, man!)
I did that also, just now.
Should we have a runoff between the top two, if they turn out to be very close?
