Murph–We used to have a small garden in our back yard, and we were always battling rabbits, too. We planted scallions on the perimeter of the garden ’cause someone told us that would work. Then our daughter kept eating the scallions. When she would come in with her breath smelling like onions, and I’d ask her if she’d been eating the scallions, she’d say “How did you know?” She was only 5 or 6 at the time!

Ad….how do you deal with slugs. Here is my organic solution. My latest discovery however has provided excellent results… wool pellets, which when scattered by the handful around the base of your specimen, then watered, form a mat which, because of it’s hygroscopic texture (ie, it can retain water), is an irritant slugs and snails don’t like to cross. And better still, the mat eventually breaks down, providing a slow release fertiliser rich in nitrogen.

Ad…hope it helps…the squirrels are a different matter. I create a “trail mix” of very hot, dried peppers, and I put a trail of them around the garden. The pepper smell attracts the squirrels and they try them and do not like them. The word spreads. The other thing I do is to put trays of water away from garden along with spoiled fruits, veggies and berries….the squirrels are repeled by the peppers and attracted by the water station with some treats.
