Time Out for O/T – Vol. 16

I got ya, bito. “what he said” was just my way of dropping a little more vernacular in, to go with your reply. My real gripe (aside from the fact that I’m a griper by nature) with “I love it” is that it comes across so arrogantly. Like a king looking out over a festival his poor peasants are having and saying, “I love it when the mindless fools try to amuse themselves and forget their pathetic little lives”. That’s how it sounds to me, like people are so superior that they can’t be threatened by those they disdain, and so “love” their stupidity/shallowness/whatever. So expressions like that get under my skin. Anyway, thanks for listening!

Jethro Tull is just the band’s name, AD. The lead singer, and always crazy dude, is named Ian Anderson. On the other hand, if you are referring to the “18th century agriculturist” (from Wiki) that the band named themselves after, I apologize. For all I know, he may very well have been a crazy dude. 🙂

what he said!

Well, yeah, it’s sarcasm, but it’s LAME sarcasm. My issue is with its lameness. It’s probably that, like you, I have heard it done to death.

As part of my ongoing, selfless, mostly futile and totally obnoxious campaign to protect the English language, I make a motion that we completely do away with the phrases, “I love it how….”and “I love it when…” used to cast derision on something.
For example, “I love it when Tea Party spokespeople pretend like they’re all Constitutional scholars”.

The fact is that you DON’T “love” it when they do that, so why say that you do?
We have lots of good phrases that can be used in such instances. “I find it amusing”, “It never ceases to amaze me”, etc.

Please use those. Saying, “I love it”, when you don’t, is just so…..unlovable.

Abby!

I was wondering about/missing you! Nice to see you here. These days choicelady has disappeared as well…..did you two cook up something together to save the country?

Yuck! And I despise “shorty” as a “term of endearment”.

» Posted By whatsthatsound On July 21, 2011 @ 9:31 pm

It was “highly biased” simply because that means favoring one side over the other unfairly, which he clearly did. There was no balance whatsoever. Everything HE did was impeccable, while everything they did was, well, unreasonably fail to acknowledge what a great person he is. Seriously, that’s how the whole thing comes off for me. I mean, I could watch it again, but…..

I kind of lean toward what KQ is saying about this. It was a highly biased accounting of what, obviously, transpired at least somewhat differently.
People have a tendency to present what happened in ways favorable to them. As listeners, we just naturally expect this. So the only real screening we can do is to listen to how often the person says things like, “Now, they would present this differently, but…”, or “I was probably overstepping…”
But with this, we get no admission or indication that he could have done anything wrong.

He just brags, first about how great his ratings are, then about how much money he could be making, and then about what a beacon of truth he is. I wouldn’t want my “news” delivered by someone with such a skewed and inflated opinion of himself.
He also overuses the word “interestinig”.

that is priceless!

Maybe it IS her ironically post-modern genius. Maybe she’s an admirer of David Byrne.

Some Talking Heads songs approached that level of (deceptive) vapidity.

» Posted By whatsthatsound On July 21, 2011 @ 1:48 am

truly, truly. In her defense all that can be said is that she is only thirteen.

May God forgive me….

All these double names confuse me, so I might be a little off on this story, but from what I can tell, some guy with the last name Strauss-Kahn sent an email to a Congresswoman named Wasserman-Shultz calling her song/video “Friday” “Vile” and “despicable”. He also said she was obviously “not a lady” because she didn’t respond amorously to his surefire seduction technique of grunting like a mountain gorilla and waving his genitals at her.

Rosie? She’s too busy merrily chomping on the rosemary. Rosie-merry? Rosemary? Get it?

» Posted By whatsthatsound On July 17, 2011 @ 9:20 pm

I did, I saw. Unbefuckinlievable! She wants to be taken seriously and then she does all these pictures in shorts?

» Posted By whatsthatsound On July 17, 2011 @ 8:46 pm

” an excruciating combination of bombast and whining ” is a great description of the lady herself.
