Thanks for the link. My family used to love going to grandma’s house in the county. Everything was made from scratch. She had a huge flour drawer, sugar drawer, etc. They learned to get by with minimal necessities in the depression, raising food in the garden, raising chickens, gathering fresh eggs, trading with a neighbor for a cow, exchanging extra corn for fruit, etc.

Provocative opinion IMHO. Problem is, where does it stop? If it is okay to steal from the evil corporation, is it okay to shoplift in my home town grocery store? Who are you stealing from? Me? My employees? We don’t like Walmart so we all go over there and shoplift?

Justification can be a fluid thing: if there is civil unrest, is it okay to loot from the corner store because they charged you too much? Those Nike shoes I want are priced too high, so it’s okay to steal them? Is it okay to steal from your neighbor if he is a jerk? From Uncle Dan who made you mad? From the city vehicle because they tax you too much?

I think violence can follow a similar escalation.

I have always found that maintaining my character pays way more dividends. I have always treated suppliers, vendors, employees ethically. For example, I would never ask a vendor for a credit I didn’t deserve: therefore, if I ask, they better give it to me. Treating my employees ethically has paid dividends for my company many times over.

Even when I was dead broke a couple of times, I never stole from anyone. I think when you give up your ethics, you give up part of your soul. And yes, some corporations have no soul to begin with.

So far I am getting the hang of this site, and I appreciate your welcome. If I am understanding this correctly, any of us can do a discussion post (thread) of something we are passionate about. Community service, I could do one on food safety, whatever.

I would like to try it later this week. How do I get started?

Good comments from other geezers like me. If you have a good chiropractor, perhaps that might help. Over the Christmas holiday, I literally could not move because of my back. I got so swollen it took a week of icing to get back to normal. He got me back to normal, and now I feel great.

If you think you have swelling in your muscles, try icing: 20 minutes on, 40 minutes off, three times. Heat will actually increase the blood flow and swelling. It really worked well for me, and for my sore knee as well after skiing.

Hi Blue,

The vitriol is getting awful on both sides. Sorry I wasn’t around or I would have helped. I always delete stuff like that when I see it. The positive thing is that HP has an article about the civility of the protesters yesterday in Madison. They argued their points passionately, but at the end of the day, had a beer together. It comes down to respect, and so many people don’t respect themselves, let alone others.

Nationally, I fear there are people that lose their sense of humanity. Love thine enemies.

Thanks for this post. It is infinitely frustrating to me that small businesses like mine pay a higher percentage than corporations making MILLIONS! Yet, we are adding jobs. I have been reinvesting in my store; sales are up because of that, and we added 2 jobs.

We also donate back to our community for direct needs such as the food bank, our schools, people who are sick, the senior center, etc.

The same thing happened to my friends’ daughter. It came from Facebook as well. We both changed every password we could remember. She stayed on Facebook, but I bugged out. Since then I have read several articles about the lack of privacy, and how personal information gets distributed. Not for me.

I made the mistake of joining for awhile. My email account got hacked, and the virus sent spam to everyone in my address book. Very embarrassing. It came from the outside because both my computers were unhooked from the net.

I will never go back.

Speaking for myself, I drifted in after a comment on HP about posters disappearing. I followed the link and found that many of the posters I enjoyed reading, had come on over here. It didn’t have so much to do with the AOL merger as it did from missing favorite posters.

I also got sooooo tired of the moderation. On interesting threads, it got so locked down that it was worthless. I actually saw one with a couple hundred posted comments, and 3,000 pending. I also do not like the community moderation where a rogue deleter takes out reasonable comments simply because of varied opinion.
