Fact is I’m spending less time in places that focus on it..

Excerpt from Sen Bill Nelson’s post in Politico:
“We went from a $236 billion budget surplus in 2000 to a $1.3 trillion deficit last year β€” and a record $14 trillion debt. A huge chunk of the debt comes from the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. We’re bringing the troops home.

Another significant piece stems from the Bush-era tax cuts. Warren Buffett, chairman and chief executive officer of Berkshire Hathaway, says the tax cuts for the wealthy should be left to expire. They’re set to do so at the end of next year. We should let that happen.”

AD, Perhaps they see a lottery as competition for LasVegas??

» Posted By jkkFL On August 10, 2011 @ 5:19 pm

bito, Grover and his gang have to cover their asses somehow; otherwise they will end up paying a little something to Uncle Sam.
Maybe they just need to join forces and find a super accountant in the IRS, then they could throw real people a bone, at least.

Why would this be news?
What else is on any program that even nods at news?
Even if you live under a rock you would know by now!!

LOL! Unforgettable image. πŸ˜€
Aw c’mon AD- who’s gonna know us behind those helmets anyway!!

edit:”It’s very exciting, but it’s too early to know for sure without more data,” Carr said. He and Shostak both pointed out that spectral imaging, which looks for the unique chemical signature of water in the images, has not been able to verify the presence of the compound on Mars.

It will follow Congress in lockstep, and achieve the same thing. Then everyone will have Obama to blame for Something Else he has no control over.

ADONAI, I have this mental image of you living up in the hills- where no casino would aspire to be! πŸ˜‰
Do you not have OTB on horses?

» Posted By jkkFL On August 10, 2011 @ 1:00 pm

LOL! FL is so full if nuts and idiots, I wonder how the rest of us remain relatively sane. πŸ˜‰

Khirad, we have the FL lottery, ‘internet cafes’; (which fall in the cracks), we have full service casinos operated by the Seminole and Miccosukee Indian Tribes. We also have dog racing & jai alai with OTB, and horse racing.
We have Casino cruises that operate out of Port Canaveral- they take a quick trip into International waters, and are floating full casinos.
Internet cafes- often operated under names implying they are a Veterans Org or Charity, are curious establishments.
Internet gambling is explained in a set of statutes that do not necessarily clearly define what constitutes gambling in Florida but people are constantly being charged with crimes under its purview.
In an attempt to increase their customer base, when a person buys either phone cards or “internet minutes” for use at the cafΓ© they are entered into a contest to win prizes including cash.
They use slot machine type computer programs, which is the cause of the controversy. No one can determine if these are actual games or computer time usage. Lawmakers fuss about it- however one Legislator bought a chain of them and cashed in big time!!
He sold them- under duress!
It is rumored they can produce revenues anywhere from $3,000-30,000/day.
Until the controversy is settled, local communities are passing ordinances limiting or outlawing them- as they are often targets for crimes.

One special needs child; a school district unprepared to accommodate his needs; a mother driven by debt and dead ends… How many more times will this scenario play out in the coming years if we continue to use education funds for pork?? This is one of the most tragic and infuriating stories you will read today.
