I agree solar and wind is a better solution- however, therein lies another issue:
Only China is geared up to produce the amount of machinery required to launch a massive restructuring of power production…

Dr. Nagy Elsayaad just said on CNN that comparing the number of accidents, vs the number of power plants, the risk is very low.
Preventable accidents (human error) comprise the majority of accidents.
The only true disaster is Chernobyl, and that was because of the use of substandard materials, and redundancy was compromised as well.
I agreed to be the lightening rod for this discussion and I accept your opinion, but again- compare the safety of nuclear power to the global warming impacts of conventional power plants..
sometimes you just have to pick your poison- and your battles.

I wasn’t going to say anything, but you said it so I will chime in! I agree that there are risks with nuclear power, but the risks are below average weighted by accidents, if you average the accident/ malfunctions vs nuclear power plants in use.. For years, I lived about 10 miles from a nuclear power plant in Illinois, I would give anything to have those power bills in FL. There are risks in life. I live about 40 miles from KSC, at any given time a shuttle or missle could malfunction, go off course and squash us like a bug- and spread radiation all over the region.Chernobyl was atypical, because the redundancy was not in place.
If you are truly concerned, global warming is accelerated by the many coal fired power plants.
In NO way am I dismissing the risks of nuclear power, but there are risks in life.
Three Mile Island was a case of successful redundancy, no matter what you’ve been told.
In a highly populated area like Japan, nuclear power meets the demand, and is cost-effective.
I know y’all are gonna beat me up over this- so have at it! (But you won’t change my mind.)

WTS- been watching all day-The scope and absolute destruction are beyond comprehension. It’s hard enough to wrap your mind around- say a Katrina-but to see a major portion of a country in this condition is incomprehensible.
My heart and prayers are with all of the countries ..Japan is so prepared- and so advanced in their architecture and warning systems- it is beyond belief when you watch the video – it must have felt like a lifetime before it quit.
