Kinda changes the idea of space being a quiet black hole..that’s why shit from DC like this makes me furious:

“The most notable project on the chopping block is the Hubble Space Telescope’s successor — the James Webb Space Telescope (JWST). The House of Representatives wants to kill the project, which would effectively end U.S. leadership in space science. While these kinds of budget politics are often played out through big science projects, the current chaos makes the end of JWST far too possible.”

KQ- is the mission of the filmmaker to sell tickets in order to grab an audience- to create talking points? Would a straight-forward documentary do that?
Is Spiderman a fail because it takes a a totally implausible idea, and presents it in a format that appears ‘possible’?
Is Vanguard fair because they travel, and film from the side of ‘the law’? What about the other side??
A point can be effectively made by using ‘stagecraft’ and frequently, that is what sells tickets..
I believe that many people realize what Is stagecraft, and what the real story is. My theory is that most people knew that Cuba or Iraq was hardly a citizen’s paradise.
Did it irk you when Anthony Bourdain went to Cuba a couple of weeks ago, and touted Cuba as filled with awesome people and food?

Amen on Vanguard! I have been watching it for years, and it is an education.
My very favorite series was the one Laura Ling did on China, before the 2008 Olympics; which was followed by her capture by the N Koreans in 2009.
If you ever have the chance to view her China series- grab that opportunity.

Today is the anniversary of Hurricane Charly, 2004.. followed by Frances and Jeanne…
May their like never pass this way again!!
It came ashore on Sanibel Island- ravaging my favorite vacation spot, moved thru Punta Gorda, where my best friend lives- and proceeded to make a beeline to Orlando, (putting thousands more in danger; because Tampa was forecast to be the target, prompting many to evacuate inland to Central Florida.)
It laid a 60′ Laurel Oak onto my sister’s house, literally. Her beloved shade tree was uprooted and laid gently across the entire span of the house, but resting on the center beam, branches reaching to the ground on either side.as though it were attempting to protect the family it loved..
The roof was destroyed, but all of us marveled at the image.
She was out of her home for a year.
08/13/04- was Friday the thirteenth!
