I love Madison, the people there, I had read many stories of their Viet Nam war protests. Didn’t save me but I am certain the efforts of the anti-war people back here saved thousands of lives.

PW, that makes a lot of sense. It’s got two major interstates funneling traffic from everywhere west out to Washington and Oregon states (including the western Canadian Provinces)- 90/94 – that wants to go to Chicago and east. They converge at Tomah and separate again at Madison. Having traveled extensively between MSP and Chicago over the years it became almost a wash between flying and driving when the outer reaches of Chicago are about seven hours drive. Although the flight is about 90 minutes when you add in having to be at the airport early for your morning grope, often long flight delays, getting into the destination and obtaining a rental car the actual time can often average five hours and can extend forever. I gave up flying down there. A high speed rail would have been about six hours with perhaps five or six intermediate stops. I lived in MD four years and became devoted to the metro liner between DC and NYC. Why take the hassle of flying when you could arrive ten minutes before the train departure and off load in Manhattan about four hours later?

Well, it’s done for now, this dude is a real whack job and I wonder why the good people of the state of WI didn’t see the storm clouds on the horizon? I can’t complain too much, we are giving the country Michele Bachman 🙂

Somewhere in here I went off about the state of WI putting up a roadblock for high speed rail between Minneapolis and Chicago. Stupid, stupid, stupid. They wanted to keep the money they make from people driving who stop for food, gas, overnights, and speeding tickets.

Having driven in FL who couldn’t see the benefit of several bullet trains down there? Until you drive it you can’t imagine the distances between cities

My Canadian cousins are awfully amused by us these days. I need only remind them of the ongoing issues with their “homeland” Quebec and the rest of Canada. That usually brings them back to earth.

I have been coming to this awareness that it wasn’t only the liberal people who went to HP who were trashed and labeled and harassed. I suspect there are more than a few “true” conservatives, what did you say once, advocates for social justice, who got pull into the same vortex of anger and remarks we later regretted. You have spoken to this before right here.

You were one of the first people I ever fanned at HP. Maybe because I had a bad kitty once and I liked your name. Then I read more of your words. They were edgy for sure but I always them words I would have trouble saying. I’ve seen a couple of other people here who were banned at HP or who I thought were a little more tart over there than I thought I could be. Trust me, these people have come here and I’ve learned to appreciate them more in ten days than I ever did at HP. I think others have spoken better words than mine, just be sure I like what you have to say and I wasn’t enough in any loop at HP to know a thing. If some of them do come here and try to attack or snark you again I’m pretty sure the “tough cops” here will handle it. Just resist the urge to fight back with words and let the rest of us handle it. None of us came here for more of the same HP shit

God! You mean I KISSED A COD? No wonder I smelled so bad in the morning. OHOH, maybe that was that wet smelling thing next to me when I woke in the morning. Thought it was a wet towel from the previous night.

It was a long night and naturally my Canadian buddies didn’t partake like me, they claimed they had gone through it before.

The stuff is wicked. I read later how the original stuff was made – soap and rum? I just shuddered all over again.

I traveled to Newfie on business and after a night of drinking something they called Screech I awoke in the morning with some stupid looking medallion proclaiming me an honorary Newfie and my uvula pasted to the top of my mouth. The hangover took several days to clear my system, or maybe it never did. I can still taste that turpentine.

There is no excuse for it but it’s becoming the norm. I may not have agreed with W but he was the President, legally or not. and I wouldn’t ever call him a piece of shit until he left office. Sad you have to work in that environment

There are an awful lot of people who think the White House was painted that way as a reminder of who they wanted to run it. And that’s repubs and dems.

South Pacific? That’s funny. I HAD to see it as a kid and I think I went into a catatonic state during the whole thing. I was a kid then. I actually heard an old folk singer turned country turned Christian singer named Michael Johnson perform it at a coffee house in Minneapolis long ago. I loved the lyrics and unlike a lot of other things from the 60’s that stuck.

Freedom of speech is a two edged sword. If we allow it without limits it can and is abused. And maybe the abuse comes from the broader spreading of the words than when the Founders wrote it in. I think they thought most “free” speech would come on soapboxes or local newspapers. I sincerely think they might have re-thought that if they anticipated the internet 🙂

I think they’ve always been there but more whispered than spoken aloud. Once 2008 rolled around it seemed that certain members of the media took it upon themselves to whip out the race card in all those lovely, familiar code words they’ve developed over the years and once that snowball started downhill it grew larger and larger.

Is racism and bigotry all about fear?

I remember an old song, I think the lyrics are from Richard Rogers.

Grant a law and others will follow. It won’t be illegals only. Next they find some religion or political leaning to go after and sooner than later it will be just like Germany. We’ll kill them all off, or try to and some country will come in here and put our leaders feet to the fire. And we’ll stand here like the German people downwind from the crematoriums and deny we knew or approved. We have to stand up NOW.

Or contemplating one with the “carcass” dragged off the the ER to try to harvest the fetus. These fuckers are sick. My ex worked at PP and we were harassed, threatened, had shit put in our mailbox (real shit btw). Our neighbors were harassed as well. The stuff they said and left behind left no doubt in my mind they would kill her and everyone who worked there if they thought they could walk away. Make this legal in SD and not one health care professional, social worker or psych worker will be safe.

I don’t get mad very often but this is sick and dangerous. People will die if this law passes. The hell with the SCOTUS, they may prevail in court and get it tossed out but how many will die in the mean time?

And pass that law? You’ll see armed guards around the health clinics and security forces accompanying them everywhere. No more Dr. Tiller’s. The Pro Choice people will fight back

My son and I watched this afternoon, It was actually close Monday. Alex seems a little put off by Watson, his reactions are pretty funny when Watson is wrong. And some of his “bets”, daily double and final Jeopardy were not round numbers. Kind of fun by my son thinks Watson has an advantage somehow, either data input or the button pushing

Well, they plastered it ALL over the front page at HP. I went in, was outraged and posted six comments back to the assholes claiming it was her fault, oh hell, the usual shit plus making it seem like rape/sexual assault was only happening in Muslim countries because THEY, unlike us great patriotic christians would never sexually assault OUR women. One comment made it through, the rest went away to the mods. In the meantime about ever ten comments were of the above sentiment.

Sexual assault can include penetration with some object but can also be simply fondling etc. Rape is penetration with the old johnson.

On the other hand, I think the MSM tends towards sexual assault because rape sounds as brutal as it means and I suspect they don’t like to put that out there.

I don’t know for sure though Cher, where the hell are the lawyers when we need them?

I like Bernie but it’s not lost on me he’s been a little all over the map. He made his bones with some outrageous talk recently but before that he was just a rather unknown Senator from VT, and most Americans would have trouble finding it on the map.

David – I accept there is some blind allegiance, I do think it is more pervasive in some sectors of the right, and that would be a larger sector. The simplest example are the Palinbots who outnumber the blindly loyal crowd to Rachel or KO. The only one who I think commands more allegiance is a comedian, or two.
