Displaying 781 To 810 Of 960 Comments Dey That was funny and I can actually see the stiff upper lip stiffen in my mind I got my first marriage out of the way by age 21 – you know those days of the sex, drugs, rock n roll (and airplane tickets – she was a FA) marriage – six months and then we spun apart. Very funny comeback. » Posted By jdmn17 On February 19, 2011 @ 5:43 pm I’m with you Dey, I got stoned and listened to this, dancing around a fire with my crummy boom box blaring it out. Girlfriend was the essential hippy, including hairy legs and pits. Ah, the 60’s and early 70’s. The kids don’t know what they missed 🙂 » Posted By jdmn17 On February 19, 2011 @ 5:38 pm Dey Right on I had the same marriage – oh my I call them my Alec Guinness moments – Bridge On The River Kwai. At the end when the bridge is done and the guys are trying to blow it up to keep the Japanese from using it to send more troops against the British Alec stands there and finally realizes he’s been aiding the enemy and says just before falling on the detonator “What have I done?” That last day on HP, I had that same moment as post after post went into lockdown – I saw the Planet POV, came here, saw the friendly greetings and thought “What have I done?” » Posted By jdmn17 On February 19, 2011 @ 5:34 pm Kalima Thanks, I’m just a nosy snot nosed kid at heart. I’m sure it has been both exciting and challenging with new members. I love it here by the way. I wrote it before but it warmed my heart the way I, and everyone else, was greeted and welcomed. My only complaint was PW offered others donuts and only told me to pull up a rock and sit. You guys are awesome » Posted By jdmn17 On February 19, 2011 @ 5:28 pm CAdawn I remember when Chern wrote that she’d done it. I laughed. I tried several times to get something through the mods. I managed to get it out but it was one some thread like – Miley Cyrus hangnail Causes her to be late for a hair appointment – you know, that serious stuff. I did manage to get a couple of cryptic ones on moderated ones but I borrowed from Chern there. I’m just wandering around the Planet trying to express my Point Of View. Someone I like actually figured it out and she’s come over a few times since. And it was sad. The first day, Black Monday, the posts got through and stuck at least until noon. I managed to get here from Giants44 (SueInCa). » Posted By jdmn17 On February 19, 2011 @ 5:19 pm Dey, you are really making me laugh. I ask a simple question and you know what? That’s my story from now on. » Posted By jdmn17 On February 19, 2011 @ 5:14 pm So I suppose fat cow isn’t going to fly? No one I really want to call that but good to know for another life » Posted By jdmn17 On February 19, 2011 @ 5:09 pm Caru, So the dude played with me? He was a bit of an ass and my hockey coach so I had to comply » Posted By jdmn17 On February 19, 2011 @ 5:07 pm Thanks Dey [{spit}] You and Penner made me laugh so hard the other night and now PW’s picked it up so I figure every time I do it for HP [{spit}] I should do it for Sarah [{spit}] Gotta get a beer, mouth’s getting dry » Posted By jdmn17 On February 19, 2011 @ 5:05 pm Refresh or the old standby F5 Good to see you, forget to say hello and welcome before. » Posted By jdmn17 On February 19, 2011 @ 5:02 pm Okay, not wanting to break up a good thing but I have a question for you “old timers” I got here on Black Monday, there were already a number of people whose words I loved posting and blogging over here. So you all had found this place earlier. Since I’ve been here not a day goes by that one or more people come drifting up to the mother ship and are hoisted aboard, fed some nutrition and patted on the back as a welcome. My question is this. Before the AOL deal were there as many newbies signing on daily? Was the influx of refugees large on Monday, Tuesday etc? Have the number of newbies added a significant number to the directory? Just curious. Today again there were at least three new people who came in. I see that a lot of days. They seem to come in on various threads so I suspect I only see a few each day because I have to focus my energy on other things most days. I don’t know why it’s interesting to me. guess as an old market analyst I am curious about trends and that sort of crap. » Posted By jdmn17 On February 19, 2011 @ 4:58 pm HH I wrote that one after their headline talked about GG being shot. Nope, not a chance, same with shooting or killed or murdered. WTH are you supposed to say when their story is about it? I am quite upset about the recent occurrence in the southwest. I can’t even write what might no get scrubbed I’m FREE! » Posted By jdmn17 On February 19, 2011 @ 4:36 pm javaz I have trouble believing that myself. Having been where my friends were being killed and wounded I didn’t leave them because I was too distraught to react. It wasn’t just me. I never knew a friend ignore a friend in trouble. If he says he was politically overwhelmed I’m looking for his TP membership card. That he resigned immediately got him off the hook. Can’t say I know because I don’t, it simply smells like four day out of water carp » Posted By jdmn17 On February 19, 2011 @ 4:31 pm Buddy Still creeps me out every time I hear Johnboy say her name “Sarah” Like some love struck teenager. » Posted By jdmn17 On February 19, 2011 @ 4:26 pm KT I personally like the grifters union idea. My Union brothers and sisters indeed To paraphrase my friend Dey Sarah Palin [{spit}] » Posted By jdmn17 On February 19, 2011 @ 4:25 pm CAdawn Now you know how the “49ers” felt when they sifted out the sand at Sutters Mill. Gold! You have found the mother lode 🙂 I came here, saw so many favorite names I had to pinch myself » Posted By jdmn17 On February 19, 2011 @ 4:20 pm So we can’t say we want to look for an “ethnic” restaurant? Oh my…. So glad I’m here. » Posted By jdmn17 On February 19, 2011 @ 3:50 pm CAdawn They changed servers and some times are faster than others. I’ve said to others that we seem to have a choice. A super fast write and send function at HP, where your comments, often carefully thought out, go into mod or get deleted. Or a slightly slower upload where everything you write gets posted, usually about 5-30 second delays. I think they can speed up the posting speeds more easily than they can remove the mods and deletes over there. I’ve been here since Black AOL Monday and it’s much easier every day. And it seems you have some friends from there so get settled and get in touch. There is a member directory at the top. All alphabetical. Most everyone retained their HP names but you can go to the Avatar post and see lots of people, including some you will know from HP who have changed their names and avies » Posted By jdmn17 On February 19, 2011 @ 3:35 pm Caru Now that would pass law in IN. I once got verbally smacked around asking that question in Algebra class. Needless to say the “argument” end with my math teacher having me stand at the blackboard and take it out until ran out of room. One of the many times as a youth I didn’t remember “silence is golden” » Posted By jdmn17 On February 19, 2011 @ 3:29 pm HH Is this a quiz for which of probably ten forbidden words or thoughts caught their attention? I would never even bother to write that cuz I’d hit enter and know the dreaded mod sign would come on. Very good remark though. I would have asked the poster about the racial demographics of WI, MN too. There’s a whole lotta white people up here. » Posted By jdmn17 On February 19, 2011 @ 3:24 pm CAdawn There’s a couple of places to go to for “help”, like avatar things and such. I just landed here about 12 days ago and didn’t read the “owners manual” except for uploading my gravatar. Otherwise I just wander around stubbing my toe here and there. Great place. One thing you can help yourself with it to write a reply by putting the senders name first, that way they can see it in the recent post box Some also use @CAdawn Glad you’re here » Posted By jdmn17 On February 19, 2011 @ 3:18 pm CAdawn Only certain people have the gift of nailing something exactly right. If you were an Olympic diver I’d give you a 10 » Posted By jdmn17 On February 19, 2011 @ 2:59 pm Deygirl got it and sent a test email – let me know jd » Posted By jdmn17 On February 19, 2011 @ 2:54 pm We have a shot at something similar in MN. Thankfully Dayton got past Emmer but the legislature, I really don’t know. All a bunch of tight ass white guys making noise about the same type of changes that are making headlines elsewhere. Hard to imagine a state with two liberal US Senators could fall so far into the right wind abyss » Posted By jdmn17 On February 19, 2011 @ 2:30 pm NOT TRUE KT You were one of the first three people I fanned. I was so nervous about it because I thought they’d notify you of who fanned you and there I was, this 0 fan idiot. You and so many said so many wonderful thought out things back in 2008/09/. I remember that was part of when my hopes began to fade over there. All of my favorite people starting writing shorter and shorter things. I know now it was more you were fed up with trying to write something and having it deleted than it was a change in your thoughts and writing skills » Posted By jdmn17 On February 19, 2011 @ 2:27 pm Index cards? I LOVE that idea. I get so confused trying to go from one part of a story to another, I end up just collapsing over it. I will try that. Thanks » Posted By jdmn17 On February 19, 2011 @ 2:23 pm Khirad I have been there way too many times. I write fiction for fun and there are days I can just write like the wind and others where I can’t put one sentence together. I also experience “building block” when I have two to four projects going at the same time and I know I can juggle them and then one little thing goes awry and I just freeze mentally. It really sucks and it just gets worse instead of better. The only way I can break it is to get my ass back to my workshop and start cutting. Even if I know it’s not the next thing I planned, it’s something and once I get the saw moving in my hand the ice jam sees to break and I can move forward. Good luck » Posted By jdmn17 On February 19, 2011 @ 2:21 pm Truth I do wander around here. It’s one of the great dilemma’s I never faced much at HP. There are more articles here than I can possibly track and I love the latest comment box so I can find you guys when I get here. As much as I love the initial articles, I really get into the comments because they are still there!!!! Not moderation, no delays til the next day to see if you are still posted, and people can develop actual thoughts and process things. I will ponder my contribution. I am willing to write whatever I can. I had thought of a “coming in from the cold” type of article – maybe “Musings of a Marginally Literate but VERY Interested Joe” about what it feels like here instead of there. One of the things I’ve really noticed differently is this: When you go to HP now how many pages do you have to dig through before you find a post that is reasonable and arguing a strong point that hasn’t been slammed, snarked and beat to death? Is there one page? If I were new liberal/progressive coming into HP I would be completely demoralized. Even when there are two opposing viewpoints trying to discuss things, it is inevitable their posts are shoved aside by a barrage of hateful, short and ugly slams. To be honest, the few times I have posted there in the last two weeks have been on issues very personal to me and when the replies came back they were, for the most part hateful, dismissive and or condescending. Why bother posting if that’s how seriously you are taken? I’m with you on this. I will gather my thoughts and write. I think I saw a link to an email and I’ll try to get some thoughts together on google docs I can drop in there. Please be advised. I have NO ego about my writing. You can hack it up as much as you like. I write fiction for fun and mental relaxation. I can make mistakes there I can’t afford to make on a one of a kind board. So I wind myself into a knot in my shop and come back here and relax with my fingers. Let me know. I am honored you are interested in my helping. jd » Posted By jdmn17 On February 19, 2011 @ 2:17 pm MW Personally I would like to be able to simply think of the post I want, hit F5 and have it go there. Suppose that’s not in the works. It is a little cumbersome at times but every time I grumble under my breath I shut my mouth because I can always go back to the other honky-tonk where I can get fast entries that disappear into moderation or go to find a post and find it deleted. Sometimes less is better » Posted By jdmn17 On February 19, 2011 @ 2:01 pm Truth, I have seen its potential already. I am very cautious. Like kissing a cobra 🙂 » Posted By jdmn17 On February 19, 2011 @ 7:48 amComments Posted By jdmn17
