Time Out for O/T – Vol. 15

KT

I am wondering if there are any “western” democracies watching these because they are afraid their own masses might wake up. I have to believe there are some people here freaking out over what is happening in WI,

“MY GOD! What if they realize they can actually take us down?”

Money can buy elections but can it really buy you out of the boiling oil if the peasants revolt?

Khirad,

I feel for you, things are moving at light speed over there.

So true, so many other things. You are too young to recall we called him Ronald Rayguns back in the 60’s because he was a nuke them sumsabitches kind of guy. Very scary dude

Yes, and I recommend Son of the Morning Star as well. There was also another book about “the court martial of Custer” written from the perspective of his somehow surviving the battle.

There are some very well written books about the battle and some seriously shitty ones. I enjoy studying it because they seem to keep finding new things out about the battle that debunk the great Budweiser Painting entirely

Are we going to make a teeny-weeny guess who the beneficiary of that little “pork” might go to?

How the people of WI voted in a guy who is nothing more than a shill for the Kochs is beyond me.

And naturally, the MSM is going to ignore that entirely. Using the teachers as a wedge issue to sneak through what might be the real agenda.

I hope they set up tents down there and force this out into the open

As a market analyst I think most opinion polls are crap. They are run by think tanks that have deep ties to the far right.

As for RR, what can you say? They just went through a great re-write of his life and accomplishments on his 100th “birthday” that left me wanting to hurl.

He was a clown, an actor playing a part and no one seems to remember he was probably dysfunctional the last year or two of his second term.

I have to stop before I get my rage going.

And yet we ignore the Vikings who were here earlier and – wink – left a Runestone in a field in Western MN. That aside they were a lot closer to “America” than Columbus got and they were years earlier. I heard they even taught the Native Americans to make lefse.

I like Crazy Horse and Sitting Bull. I don’t know if you’ve ever visited the Little Big Horn but seriously, we walked up to the ridge Custer reportedly came over, gazed down into the valley and wondered aloud WTF was he thinking? If the teepees stretched for a mile beyond the river he was dead before he left the saddle. Why he didn’t turn and run like hell is beyond me.

Be careful about trashing Jesse James and John Dillinger. Their fans are still around and rabid. I saw something the other day about trying to recreate Jesse as a family man who just caught a couple of tough breaks.

Happy holiday, we have Presidents day here today – to celebrate something about them. Of what I am no longer certain. I think it’s just because the US Mail doesn’t want to be out trying to deliver mail in our fresh 17″ of snow.

And then POOF, it came back, probably because
a. the trolls flipped out and called me ignorant
b. I’m sure they thought I wouldn’t try to retort since I’d be sucking my thumb in the corner

Two people did get it, one asked me where I was so I tried to code him in. We’ll see. He seems to get off on bashing so maybe he likes it there.

Gotta give the stayers credit, they are more tolerant than I am

Chase – “On Wisconsin” is a song I’ve heard way too many times being in the Big Ten (or twelve or whatever it is now)

Like to hear it down by Trini Lopez but I’m tired of the big marching band

Update 2 – it’s back!!!!! on the Main thread with several comments not any really getting the sarcasm

Blatant truth? I don’t know, it was there, then it wasn’t. One retort I wanted to respond to but it was gone so fast. I’m not savvy enough about the place and the mods to understand exactly what happened.

That is perhaps the most awesome factoid I’ve read in a long time. I cannot fathom why we denigrate teachers when in fact they hold our children’s future in their hands much more than most parents.

I’m sure if this posted on HP – well it wouldn’t post – but if it did the trolls would be rabid or dead silent.

Now of course I need to asking what kind of expectations I could set for my baby sitter 🙂

I think I tend to forget how the evangelistic religion destroys women’s self esteem. Are they that fervent or do they suffer some sort of malady they can’t stand on their own? Yet I’m not even certain I believe that. I’ve worked with super religious women and aside from that intensity of belief they were outwardly pleasant. You just could not bring THAT up. I think it would be an interesting topic, the disconnect between women who would vote against their own interests time after time. There is something wrong in there.

Confederates in the Attic – Tony Horwitz

A remarkable and often somewhat chilling read.

It gets better. I was pretty fried when I was taken aboard here. I get it.

Aren’t we seeing that here as well? Maybe not the numbers yet but think of the highly trained, experienced professional sitting on the sidelines, jobs gone and no prospect for return. Add in the thousands of college kids with no jobs or taking what they can, all saddled by new or old debt.

What’s our breaking point?

What EXACTLY are those two up to?

How must you feel as things accelerate like they are. Is this the beginning of something huge? Are you wondering how far this might spread? Outside the ME?

Do you wonder if part of the things happening in Wisconsin might relate to the sense of empowerment the Egyptian and Tunisians have shown the world is possible? Rumblings from other states suggest they might follow suit with the WI protests.

What is happening here? What it is ain’t exactly clear (I love that song)

Whatever you write will be absorbed and pondered
