One day the guy from the home office was out to teach us about the new line of mowers. Being somewhat naive, or maybe just curious I asked the guy about how they came to price points on about six mowers. He looked at me and told me straight out that each mower engine was designed for a certain life, i.e. running hours. So you got what you paid for. I asked him if we could tell people that and he lit into me that I should never dare tell a customer he was buying a mower that would only last so long. I never understood that because we sold tires with mileage ratings and car batteries too, lesson learned. I always buy the best engine I can afford. The stuff that comes from China, electronics; do we even bother taking it back when it craps out a week after the warranty has expired? Nope, we bitch and go back to the big box and buy another, changing brands of course when for the most part they are interchangeable save the outer wrapper. I try to buy USA made stuff, more expensive often, but at least when it craps out I know my money is staying in the country.
