Time Out for O/T – Vol. 15

13 degrees here in MN. An inch last night again, more on the way, 2″ or so. If we get six we are doomed. There’s been no melt at all since the last big storm and the piles by the driveway are full and about 8′ high. Where the hell is that Groundhog again?

And another red state weighs in on abortion

I read it “over there”, short article and I’m afraid I was as horrified as you. Perhaps more horrific was the dude’s response, he couldn’t even do the John McCain response when the women in my local suburb called POTUS an Arab. This guy just mumbled and moved on.

Apparently MSM is not going to let this one above the radar. And it sounds like no one followed up to identify the dude

The local right wing network news in Minneapolis/St Paul is reporting it as though the whole bill is passed and ready for signature. Watching from here the “MSM” is showing its color (red) and driving the watchers to believe its over. A short mention as an aside it still has to pass the Senate in a sort of “oh by the way” tone.

It’s clear whose side they are on.

The Coup against the American people continues and way too many are more interested in a local thief’s girlfriend getting arrested for stealing from his bankruptcy funds. Who gives a crap about Christy Rowan stealing several thousand dollars when state governments are destroying their work forces?

I’d feel a little better about it if the Catholic church had a little less tarnish on their image these days

Yep, sad to say we live in a world where Goldwater would be a flaming lib and Ike a socialist

Thanks HH

Better researcher than me. I simply read and react 🙂

It was “over there”. I read it in disbelief. It’s sort of complicated but that’s the gist. Under certain circumstances a woman who has a miscarriage can be held responsible. Hard to know since many women actually miscarry before they even know they are pregnant. The worse part is that if your fetus dies inside of you (like my ex’s second pregnancy) any physician performing a D&C to remove the dead tissue could be tried for murder, ignoring that the dead tissue inside your body could cause your own death and render you infertile. The woman is supposed to simply let the body expel it, it got confusing but there it was. One speculation was that it was a ruse the pols would trade off in exchange for outlawing abortion at the state level and taking their shot with the new far right SCOTUS. I suspect that’s the agenda.

When are women going to stand up and start screaming? Men too, but my god, what kind of dipshit thinking goes over there on the right

I’ll be waiting as I know you always do a kick ass job.

Hooray

Dr Tiller found that out.

Has any one of you, my favorite researchers and writers, begun compiling a list of what appears to my measly brain to be a coordinated effort at passing laws at the state level whose purpose might be to invalidate federal laws – in other words – are we seeing a coordinated effort at state’s rights coming on the heels of all of these crazy ass bills we see coming from the far right or Koch supported newbie governors?

Just wondering. Saw the story about making miscarriage a capital crime in GA.

ADONAI

And yet what we did to the Native Americans should go down as the most shameful act this country has ever done. “we” attempted to wipe them all from the face of the earth. And “we” damn near did

Sounds like a rally for angry feminists 🙂

I got to the “Arianna looks so beautiful” and threw up. Do people really only care about appearance?

Silly me, of course that’s the primary criteria for suitability in so many areas

What is up with the assault on teachers? I see now where Providence RI is sending layoff notices to their entire teaching corps.

When do people wake up and stop these politicians who are there to further enrich their friends from destroying our schools? Do they somehow think they can simply import college graduates from other countries and end up with a country full of stupid people?

Are we really collectively that stupid already?

An outstanding way to give back to your fellow man. I took my kids when they were teens down to a food bank at Thanksgiving. It was pretty humbling for them to talk to the people and hear them express their gratitude for them being there.

It’s good work and can really reorient you to what is going out in the world.

Abby

When my children were young I used every excuse I could to spend time with them. A friend of mine is staying at home while his wife works and I envy him a lot. I think there’s a difference between wanting that and passively falling into it. Maybe I can’t describe it better except it seems a lot of right leaning women seem to feel that is their “job”, staying home, taking care of the house, etc. Sort of like they bought the Beeve and want that for themselves. Of course they don’t see that every day they lose from training, education, experience and employment is one more day they are dependent on the “man of the house” and that much less able to leave if things go to shit

We are way past the point of being forgiven no matter what we do

“I didn’t notice you were brown”????

“And I didn’t notice you are an asshole”

This is hard for me. I was raised in white MN, I seriously never talked to anyone of color until I was 16 years old. That’s how white my neighborhood and school were. That year we had an exchange student from the Philippines and he was brown, yep, and he sat right next to me in two classes. We hardly talked. I had no clue really what to say to him. He seemed to have a twinkle in his eyes though. One day, sitting in the back of the class next to me, he let go with a loud fart. I burst out laughing as everyone turned to the back. I kept laughing until I looked over at Joe and there he was with his little smile on his face pointing his finger at me. The class went ewhhhh as the gas went around the room and the teacher threw me down to the office when I tried to pin it on Joe. When they let me back into class we became great friends. Since then I think I’ve learned that people are people. At least I try, there were some serious messages in my childhood from a father who hated everyone and made sure I knew it.

I listened to Sara being punked and I swear she was getting hot and bothered thinking she was talking to him,

» Posted By jdmn17 On February 23, 2011 @ 3:56 pm

It’s always been there. I think that’s what blew me away. I thought it had diminished but NOOOOO. The MSM for a long time I think worked to keep the slurs and snarks down and called people out on it. One of the things I hated about HP was people would write we anyone with a brain knew was racist code words and when you called them out on it they would hurl it back that I was playing the race card. That one really pissed me off royally. I still think that almost everyone on FN and the other db’s who “speak” for the right is just dying to use the N word on air, in an interview, or in print.

Exactly, he’s never told us what he thinks if Ike

» Posted By jdmn17 On February 23, 2011 @ 3:47 pm

And a lot of the good ones get deleted, when you check to see the ones that remain they are all low fan snarks so you can assume the post was a thoughtful progressive one. I tried to post about Phyllis S saying that feminism was evil but it never made it. Instead all these posters were talking about how much better things were when women stayed home with the kids. WTF? I grew up then. I’m sure most of these people whose knowledge of the 50’s and 60’s is based on Leave it to Beaver re-runs. At the risk of pissing off the good women here, for whom I have the utmost respect, I wonder how many of these far right women love sitting home raising their kids? Is it a lack of education or are they simply not motivated or confident enough to join the workforce?

From the station that gives us R slimeballs getting busted for various antics being listed as D what more can we expect?

A touch? You think?

This whole thing is white people who are scared to death when they read demographic trends. I said yesterday this new AZ proposal regarding no abortion for race and gender is going to have a second wave whereby it will be against the law to abort a white baby.

Maybe he already has a condo picked out in Dubai? Wonder where a governor goes when he’s overthrown? Suppose the Canadians will want him?

I can hardly wait for the weather to turn. Right now it’s hard since we’ve had so much snow, once the weather warms and the snow melts the crowds could take on an entirely different feel

» Posted By jdmn17 On February 23, 2011 @ 12:13 pm

Mostly blah, blah, blah – as usual from the right. Someone makes a salient point and gets submerged with snark and those stupid one liners
