Then again I felt the same way, though not to your mutual extent. I got really pissed when I would write from my heart, hit 250 words, go back, delete, edit and make it at 249. Then I would submit, it would go to moderation and get bounced. Yet I would get pissed and write something like “eff u” to some poster who was just there to piss us off and it would go through. That happened with more and more frequency. When David got wacked I knew it was all over. He was a pain there at times but at least he said something that wasn’t just nonsense. I guess when you get a large fan base it’s harder to walk away from them and badges and all. And I don’t mean that badly, maybe it’s just reflective of their investment. So I am happy they are happy where they are. I suspect there are still people leaving HP because of the comments of losing as many as ten fans a day even a week after. So did the rats leave the sinking ship? Or are we more sensitive and itchy scratchy souls who felt offended by events there? Hard to say. I know when I went back today I sniffed around and found most of the articles were pretty gossipy and not followed through on with good reporting. And some of the lead ins were certainly not matching the story underneath. But if you are familiar with it you can walk around in there and not get bruised. Lastly, you are right, some people are uncomfortable with change, I’ve seen several comments about how people wish this site was more like HP, at least for “ease of use” or familiarity. I kind of had some disorientation about that but it’s getting more comfortable. I pointed out to enigma2, who mentioned she’d come here and wasn’t all that comfortable and didn’t see people she knew, that we do flit a lot, reminds me of five year old soccer players who form a circle around the ball. We do tend to follow each other. So I pointed out to her and several others who were in dialog with you that one has the ability to find “us” by looking at the side bar of most current posts. I found a long thread of people supporting each other to stay, sounds like they are all remaining on board HP. LOTS of angst though. Still seeing their fan numbers drop and are expressing the loss. I miss them as well but having read some other posts there I know I came the right direction. I hope those that remain can sustain the site against what appears to be a large influx of right leaning folks. It was a little disorienting though, more short snippets than here. And a couple commented they’d been here but didn’t seem comfortable with the format and went back to HP. I did throw caution to the wind and without naming names or key words managed to get a couple of posts through without moderation regarding my experiences here. Would like to see a couple of them come over, always liked what they wrote. I still noticed a few times when I would post on certain threads even my most innocuous statements would get quashed or later removed. I thought it was just me! I remember your last day, how you got canned and then I think you came back under a similar name but the post was up for about ten minutes and was scrubbed. Several of us were probably to blame for that because we wrote to ask if it was you. Stupid on our part but I’m guessing they would have found you eventually. Free discourse, write what you want (for the most part). The biggest thing I’ve learned? When someone responds to your posts the most “mean” thing I’ve seen is “I disagree” – despite David P’s threat to tell us he might be stronger worded – that’s a joke. Dialog here is civil. I came here in pretty rough shape, was on edge and looking to get yelled at or put down and it took me about three days to relax and trust no one was going to slam me or reply with some of those silly remarks – “Undefined”. And if you ask someone to expand or offer a solution – they actually do, and usually before you ask for it. You don’t need symbols or codes or misspelling and at least to this point there seems to be no one here to pump up their ego or take command. There are friends here who talk to each other a lot, no biggie because before you know it they are talking to you like they talk to the friends they had before you got here. Everyone here seems to welcome everyone. And while most here are to the progressive side we do disagree and discuss. And we even have some conservative thinkers and believe it or not, they engage in the discourse as well, and civilly I might add. I suspect we’ll get a couple of snarkers but the powers to be here, who are here as posters as well, seem to keep a look out for them and I think they have no problems with calling them out, asking them to tone it down. We are not here to call names at each other. So the opposite of the strategies of HP and AH? I think so. I’m sticking for no other reason than posts like the cookie discussion. I suspect this site is the primary landing point for a number of the old time HP posters and I’m sure there’s some tug at those left there to stay the course for a while hoping that the mods let go of the reins and permit conversation like in the past.
