In addition though, is that the GOP muttering are that they’ve spent a freakin lot of money to still be this close a struggle and that they would be looking at this same situation in two years for his relection (assuming he wins this evening). Then there is resentment to outside money and WI doesn’t like that very much. If WI is tired now, they’ll be just as tired when his reelection is up. Finally, I think the win/win is that if Barrett wins, the boots on the ground, GOTV, 99% will be energized and the money lenders will be frustrated. If Barrett loses by a close margin, these same ideas apply. I know the GOP has made a point of nurturing any divide they could and to work on the fears of the underinformed. It strikes me that we have the culture wars of the south/southwest/west against everyone; the rural against the metropolitan. Both of these suggest racial issues. Then I think of the school systems across the red states, of hardscrabble lives and the resentments, the religiousity driving people, the magnitude of the oil/plastic industry in keeping green energy at bay. The educated elite and the less educated. It seems the GOP has excelled at the slice and dice of our American fabric and that have and have created disdain for all who are not them. And the opportunity to use billionaires to create their own “government” seems like a revolution in the making. Two thoughts to tuck into your comment: it is taking HUGE amounts of money (and lies) and they are struggling to make Walker popular. This frightload of money is having a struggle to keep Walker in office and it’s being noticed in the GOP. Will they want to put effort into him again? So while it takes a whole lot of us to slow them down, it is taking more and more GOP money and we’ve slowed them enough that they have to lie, cheat and send more money. Secondly, the visibility of these huge amounts of money will feed the anger of the 99%. This was an amazing tribute to our troops and his perspective on healing is a gift to anyone else listening who is in pain. I’ll venture another point hoping to not appear insensitive to this thread: Joe Biden’s comment forcing Obama to evolve his position on gay rights did not harm Obama as most thought it would but, by evidence, has moved the needle to greater acceptance. Joe did that. Joe brought our country just that bit closer together.
