Time Out for OT – Vol 10

why are big game big trophy hunters and left wing animal rights people on the same side in this.

Interesting answers to interesting questions. Political fools are everywhere. It’s like the invasion of the body snatchers. Before you know it, it’s too late.

Just in case you are interested Bito, I saw Chernankaya at Huff post earlier today. She is a moderator.

That’s because I’m an intereting person, Bito. One thing I won’t do is suffer fools gladly. When it comes to politics, there are fools a plenty.

What? My signature is worth much more than this. at least the buffet at MGM Grand.

California. Circulators working for JSM were discovered circulating an initiative to change the way the electoral college were awarded. These circulators were staking out a table in Los Angeles’ Skid Row, offering the homeless bags of chips and sodas in return for their signature on the petition. Although JSM denied these charges, voter registration cards issued from that location were traced back to JSM by the Secretary of State. The feds short term rate, I think what is called the federal funds rate is at 0.25%. So the fed is out of bullets to affect short term rates. They factor in the price of certain commodities to figure out what the inflation target will be. Probably, the thinking is that energy prices are stabile and at bottom right now.

Long term rates are set by the bond market. The interest rate on bonds is opposite to the price. As the price of bonds increases, the interest rate goes down. The fed has to be careful about buying up too much treasury debt though. If it is seen as buying too much to lower long term rates, investors are wary that the economy might be worse than the fed is saying. Also, lenders (bond investors) get hurt when the rate of inflation goes above about 5% per year. If long term is 2 years then their investment is wiped out at 5% inflation. So they are basically keeping foreign investors (read Germans and Chinese)happy at the expense of the working middle class.

Sorry, I made a mistake. The discount rate is higher than the federal funds rate but not by much

Maybe one reason is they factor in the floor price of oil.

The price of a barrel of oil is highly dependent on both its grade, determined by factors such as its specific gravity or API and its sulphur content, and its location. The vast majority of oil is not traded on an exchange but on an over-the-counter basis.[citation needed] Other important benchmarks include Dubai, Tapis, and the OPEC basket. The Energy Information Administration (EIA) uses the imported refiner acquisition cost, the weighted average cost of all oil imported into the US, as its “world oil price”.

Tennessee residents fight back against terrorists.

Terrorists in Tennessee?

Opponents of a new Islamic center say they believe the mosque will be more than a place of prayer; they are afraid the 15-acre site that was once farmland will be turned into a terrorist training ground for Muslim militants bent on overthrowing the U.S. government.

I haven’t seen any pictures from the rally Adlib, but I see the kind of people that listen to beck and limbo every day. It’s the same hypocrisy that Boehner and all the republican leadership uses to keep their political base in line.

“I’m the government so elect me and I’ll make sure government stays out of your life.

But what they are really saying is,

“I’m the government and I want to keep my job so elect me and I’ll make sure there is less wealth for you while I enrich myself and the corporatocracy.”

In the Hebrew Bible evil doers were people who turned away from the Mosaic Law or Halakha. The idea that “The Devil made me do it” comes from Greek and Roman Paganism and was incorporated into New Testament theology.

In Judaism ha-satan does not make evil, rather points out to God the evil inclinations and actions of humankind. In essence ha-satan has no power unless humans do evil things. After God places a wager with Satan about Job’s piety, God gives “ha-satan” permission to test the faith of Job. The righteous man is afflicted with loss of family, property, and later, health, but he still stays faithful to God. At the conclusion of this book God appears in a whirlwind, explaining to all that divine justice is inscrutable. In the epilogue Job’s possessions are restored and he has a second family to replace the one that died.

These people protesting the mosque in lower Manhattan are afraid the “secret” of Christianity may come out. The Catholic church has already acknowledged that Christianity as we know it was a slick marketing campaign by Paul. The myth is that Jesus was a composite figure created from the many supposed Messiahs crucified by the Romans for political insurrection from the period of Jewish history in the first century of the common era. Since the gospels were written around the time of the destruction of the second temple in Jerusalem, the Jewish people could be put in a bad light as being anti-messiah. Jewish people are not anti-messiah. They just don’t belive the messianic age has arrived.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/First_Jewish-Roman_War

The fear comes from the fact that more is known of the life of Mohammed than is known of the life of Jesus.

I have been watching with interest at what is happening in Pakistan along the Indus River Valley. If the present Pakistani government is seen by it’s constituents to be corrupt and ineffectual it could damage our struggle against global terrorists. If the Taliban appear to be more effective helping victims of the flooding, the US and Europe could face a new generation of jihadis.

I have been reading a very interesting history book called “Water, The Epic Struggle for Wealth, Power, and Civilization,” by Steven Solomon. He writes about the Indus River,

From about 2000 BC the Indus region appears to have been ravaged by many massive, destructive floods.

From wikipedia,

New geological research is now being conducted by a group led by Peter Clift, from the University of Aberdeen, to investigate how the courses of rivers have changed in this region since 8000 years ago, to test whether climate or river reorganizations are responsible for the decline of the Harappan. A 2004 paper indicated that the isotopes of the Ghaggar-Hakra system do not come from the Himalayan glaciers, and were rain-fed instead, contradicting a Harappan time mighty “Sarasvati’ river.

This is certainly a sad state of affairs. I wonder what the results of a poll like this would be in Europe.

This is ridiculous and absurd. 31% of republicans believe President Obama is a Muslim. They believe this even though, he drinks alcohol, eats pork, is clean shaven, and celebrates Christian festivals. If he is a Muslim he isn’t a very observant one.

That’s true, but what about all the subcontractors that were on the drilling rig when it blew up. Even though BP was at the top of the food chain, so to speak, if the subcontractors knew something was wrong with the way BP was operating the rig, they should have told their higher ups that BP was reckless. So there is plenty of blame to go around.

I heard the report this morning. I’m not surprised. I’ll have some 10W-30 SAE with my gulf seafood.

They couldn’t fault President Obama’s response to the Gulf of Mexico oil catastrophe so now the leaders of the republican party, beck and limbo, are trying to say “Gulf catastrophe? What gulf catastrophe?

President Obama marches to the beat of a different drummer. If you try to nail down the beat you will come up with something approximating Clintonism. Whatever that is.

Arizona law enforcement authorities were aware about 2 hours after the escape from the jail in Kingman that an escape had taken place. The escapees hijacked a big truck at the truck stop near the prison. The escapees forced the truckers to drive them to Flagstaff. Law enforcement just wasn’t aware who the escapees were.

I’m no fan of Jan but I prefer wimpy Goddard to hypocrit Jan Brewer. Goddard is saving his ammo for after the primary.

The fact is that out of the 25% – 30% of Americans who are still hard core republicans many of those people don’t use computers. That’s why beck and limbo are so popular among that crowd. These people are only getting 1 side of the story. So now Mr. Frum is blogging and speaking about Newt Gingrich. Gingrich? The truth about Newt Gingrich is that Newt Gingrich wouldn’t know the truth if he tripped over it.

I’m a little confused about this, If the Taliban didn’t do this, who did?

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/38620400/ns/world_news-south_and_central_asia/

Where is Mama Grizzly Sarah Palin about this? I didn’t hear anything from Mama Grizzly about 18 year old Aisha who had her nose and ears cut off by her abusive husband. Feminism? Mama grizzly Sarah wouldn’t know a feminist if she tripped over one.
