IF they’ve never been sued, successfully or unsuccessfully. BEFORE they can see a patient. The problem is not that the lawsuits pay out too much. It is that the insurance companies have NO INTENTION of paying out. Doctors DON’T want incompetents practicing medicine. But neither do they want INSURANCE COMPANIES practicing medicine. You can’t sue the insurance companies for what happens, EVEN IF IT WAS THE DECISION OF THE INSURANCE COMPANY THAT CAUSED THE HARM. The only recourse is to sue the doctor. The solution? Take the bean counters OUT of the process. Let the doctors do, without answering to accountants who have no medical training, what they trained to do. And the solution to malpractice suits is simple: Put them in front of a board of retired doctors to review. PS: I quit one of my jobs, the one that was killing me–literally.
