Displaying 0 To 0 Of 0 Comments kes – yes indeed! Hats off to our AdLib for his foresight! I do worry though, that as Axelrod noted, his record will be scrubbed and scrutinized. Clearly nobody gives a damn about his lacivious life or even his fraud, lying, hate, or being censured by his own House. That is a concern. Will middle of the road indies turn a blind eye to how vicious this man is about them? Does his rhetoric about “work” rather than hands up from the government play in Peoria? I hope not. I think the drumbeat against his support for killing essential safetynet programs is THE key to showing how radically out of touch he is with Americans and how much he, like Romney, engages in crony capitalism. With Paul sinking like the millstone around the GOP neck he is, will the faux left support Newt? We sure know where his 4th wife wannabe is – she will! She’s already said so. And she has the audacity to say OBAMA is not “that into” the middle class? That defines NEWT who thinks a Victorian small stinking rich and huge working poor division somehow benefits this nation. I do worry. We’ve allowed ourselves to be hornswoggled before – I do not doubt it could happen again. » Posted By choicelady On January 22, 2012 @ 12:49 pm Oh no – so sorry to lose you, Gabby, but Godspeed on your full recovery. Thank you for ALL you have done for ALL people! » Posted By choicelady On January 22, 2012 @ 12:41 pm And a screen to keep the rotten tomatoes at bay. How DARE he! He’s the one living off the fat of the land doing as little work as possible! What disconnect does he make that people who are with the NAACP – surely a deep commitment – don’t know how to WORK??? Fighting racism and barriers to full citizenship participation is a 24/7 endeavor. Newt has always taken the easy road. I MIGHT have some sympathy for Boehner’s hard jobs as a youth (who hasn’t done that in middle America?) but Newt coasted along, wrote what apparently was a lackluster dissertation, and cruised to a life of relative ease where he substituted snot for brains and quickly found ways to lived high on the hog while doing so. I’d like to give HIM a broom and see how well he does working 2 jobs full time to keep food in Callista’s mouth… » Posted By choicelady On January 22, 2012 @ 9:41 am Sabreen – this is excellent (and I’d not seen it on the other site, so thank you), but hoo boy – that is an exhausting list of things to tackle! No wonder we’re all tired! » Posted By choicelady On January 22, 2012 @ 9:36 am HOLD ON!!!! I found another photo of Williams – it might have been him after all! Two very different photos, but the full face head shot DOES look like the asshat this afternoon! YIKES! » Posted By choicelady On January 21, 2012 @ 10:33 pm Khirad – Berlusconi and Chavez may be the perfect manifestations of the Peter Principle – exceeding your level of competence? Obviously they have desires to BE lounge singers but made the mistake of not doing so. Pity for their respective nations. » Posted By choicelady On January 21, 2012 @ 10:30 pm kes. Sue, KQ and Sally – it never dawned on me he could possibly be a RIGHTWING jerk. He was representing “Move to Amend” but I never had any previous contact with him, and he was just horrible. I just found Mark Williams’ photo – NOT the same guy. That doesn’t mean he’s not the same TYPE. Or – some FDL, hair-on-fire jerk. He was easily 30 years older than my friend and damned well ought to have known not to pass judgement AND not to harass a young person doing a great thing. And my friend is a GREAT guy, who’s put it on the line for years, living on meager income to do justice. The boob was clearly not living poor – dressed in cargo pants and a sweater, but hardly poverty row. I am reasonably convinced my friend owns one and only one suit which he wears to lobby. He needs to look professional, and I imagine he wears the suit on the plane from DC and then brings shirts to change. So bloody the hell what? Next time – the jerk had better not get in my face. I am well known around Sacramento as a pleasant and kind person, even to people with whom I disagree. But there is one woman who snarlingly got in my face and found that very quietly I tore strips off her pretentious blather. She never came within 20 feet of me again. No one else heard – but she came to rue the day she thought she could diss me. Another guy, a physician and faux Marxist who sends Christmas cards that cost more than my car, not only dismissingly referred to working people as “the great unwashed”, but he spent the very first meeting I had with him slipping his hand under my upper arm next to my breast. After a few meetings listening to THAT blather and hypocrisy, not to mention his unsubtle harassment, he’s pretty much singing soprano… I’ve HAD it with the bullies on OUR side! Enough! » Posted By choicelady On January 21, 2012 @ 10:27 pm OK – SERIOUSLY off topic. I just got back from speaking at the rally to support a Constitutional Amendment to overturn “Citizens United”. One of the other speakers is an old friend who labored long and hard in a small but vital non-profit fighting for racial justice. He came wearing the same gray suit I often see (with an open collared shirt, no tie) – he works now for Public Citizen but still has very little income nonetheless and has student loans to pay off. One of the older speakers, a guy I don’t know, started hammering my friend for wearing a suit, calling him a “corporate” toady and told him to cut the legs off his suit – my friend’s ONLY suit – to make an “ironic statement” that he’s “with the real people”. He went on and on and on needling my friend about “capitulating” to the corporate mentality. Finally, when he shut up, I said, “That’s good – I see you focus on the REALLY BURNING ISSUES.” He gave me a blank look. Mind you, I’ve been in dozens and dozens of progressive rallies and press conferences – I’ve never seen this buffoon anywhere before. So who does the WORK of fighting for progressive causes? Not this jerk. When it was this fauxgressive’s turn to speak, he overshot his time by quite a bit, pounded the podium to the point he drowned out his words, and wandered off the topic to just rail against capitalism. Yup. Just the kind of fauxgressive we all need. The rest of the speakers were terrific and on point. The fauxgressive did not actually seem to care why we were there. I, for one, did not care that HE was there. Grrrrr. » Posted By choicelady On January 21, 2012 @ 2:29 pm It’s not an “all you can eat” buffet either… » Posted By choicelady On January 21, 2012 @ 2:18 pm kes – I saw the same poll, and I don’t remember who did it either! But you’re NOT wrong! Someone is “out there” giving those figures! » Posted By choicelady On January 21, 2012 @ 2:16 pm WRONG! I like this – financialism, not capitalism. Do I drag out here the tired but still useful observation by Engels that this IS how capitalism (he did not distinguish) will collapse? I dislike a lot of the prophetic view of Marx and Engels, but much of their analysis is spot on. You’d think our “leaders” in the capitalist world might have wished NOT to make their prophecy about the self-immolation of capital come true? » Posted By choicelady On January 21, 2012 @ 11:44 am Dear KT – that implies Dennis is not. Used to love him, but he’s over the top. If he likes Paul, Dennis has certifiably lost his marbles. » Posted By choicelady On January 21, 2012 @ 11:40 am Yeah – I know we all here have the same, right? Yeah. Thought so… » Posted By choicelady On January 20, 2012 @ 6:09 pm Do read Stephanie McCurry’s “Confederate Reckoning” about how the Confederacy pillaged the fortunes of NON slave owning white people, exploited the women left behind (and how they fought back), and how abandoned wounded Confederate soldiers got help from escaping slaves – had their lives SAVED by them. Reality ought to trump fantasy, but it rarely does. » Posted By choicelady On January 20, 2012 @ 6:07 pm That’s GREAT, bito! Good find! Excellent distinction between the forms of capitalism. Wow! » Posted By choicelady On January 20, 2012 @ 6:04 pm Says Rick, “Yeah – but I’m ahead of all those others so – VICTORY!!! God’s Chosen!!! The other two are Satan’s Spawn so of course they have an advantage! Yippee for me, Rick Baby! I’m at the head of the Jesus Pack. And PAC.” Self delusion is a wonderful balm. » Posted By choicelady On January 18, 2012 @ 8:56 pm Wonderful! Thank you, Khirad! » Posted By choicelady On January 18, 2012 @ 8:53 pm Since I am possessed of the belief that your avatar is a self portrait, that’s hard to reconcile. VERY hard to reconcile! » Posted By choicelady On January 18, 2012 @ 8:52 pm LOVE chopped salads! Absolutely LOVE them. Never had the Angel Shrimp, but it sounds fab. And I just ate, so to pique my appetite again is a pretty spectacular feat, Sue! Yum! » Posted By choicelady On January 18, 2012 @ 8:50 pm Cough (AdLib) Some of us have HOPE we can do something about that. OK – I’m being cute. We will tell all soon. But in advance, let me tell you that our AdLib is one smart cookie! » Posted By choicelady On January 18, 2012 @ 8:48 pm The rather surprising thing is that he’d actually know people who know how to hack. I figure him for a Selectric guy… » Posted By choicelady On January 17, 2012 @ 10:03 pm invient – I never thought I was a cultural imperialist. Apparently I am. This is DISGUSTING. That you are devoted to it, take time to make it, know what it’s good for, and embrace it into your life speaks well for you. I, on the other hand, am going for chocolate ice cream. To hell with health benefits. Sorry – I really did not realize how weak a foundation of food tolerance I have. Rock on, invient. But please don’t share? » Posted By choicelady On January 17, 2012 @ 10:01 pm Be careful – it might just crash your computer! Especially if it’s “Mitt Romney’s Lying, Thieving Misdeeds.” You’d need a DOD-sized system to hold all that info. » Posted By choicelady On January 17, 2012 @ 9:58 pm Ohhhhh – that’s just EXCELLENT! Well done! » Posted By choicelady On January 17, 2012 @ 9:56 pm The absolutely WORST act of GOP hypocrisy occurred here a few years ago when a major party fund raiser and operative was driving drunk and crashed into a car with three young Black women and the little 2-year-old son of the driver. All were killed. His defense was to spend all his time blaming them and trying to destroy their reputations as sluts and unwed mom, rip offs of society NONE of which was true. It massively backfired on him – Sacramento investigators said the women were doing 16 mph and he was doing 76 mph in a 35 mph zone when he swerved into their lane and hit them head on. They were all wearing seatbelts and died anyway, it was that bad. His breathalyzer was off the charts. His disgusting defense of blaming them coupled with his absolute refusal to express remorse (he kept saying HE was the victim) netted him full prison time, no compassion. But people to this day cannot get around the fact he really believed that somehow four Black people – including a toddler – had screwed him over and made HIM suffer for their “faults”. That is how disgusting the GOP mindset has become. » Posted By choicelady On January 15, 2012 @ 4:17 pm Therefore verifying your original premise. QED. » Posted By choicelady On January 15, 2012 @ 4:10 pm This is right up there with the state legislator who expanded gun conceal-carry laws BUT did say you could not carry a gun drunk – then got pulled over on DUI with a loaded gun under his car seat. I never did hear what happened to him – but I hope he’s held to the letter of the law. Same with this bozo – wonder what the DUI rate for stupid white guys with money is vs. poor people? » Posted By choicelady On January 15, 2012 @ 4:07 pm KQ – Christianists – GOOD word! People who are more interested in a show of being Christian than in actually BEING one. I like that a lot. Since I follow football not at all – or only here – I did not know that part of the Tebow charisma was the rule changes to suite his Christianist self. Wow. That, as Michelle B. would have said, is CHOOTZ-pah. Remember – these ultra conservatives are “Christian” in name only. They are Old Testamentarians who use Jesus as a “get out of jail free” card. Actually living the life Jesus taught was possible (and that all faiths AND secular humanism do as well?? Can’t be bothered. That would encroach on their entitlement, on their personal acquisition of material rewards on earth, on their egotism. So the Christianist Old Testamentarian got skunked by the probably Godless Patriots from liberal MA. If that’s not a sign, I don’t know what is. » Posted By choicelady On January 15, 2012 @ 4:03 pm And the Patriots are from that bastion of Northeastern Liberalism – Massachusetts! Man plans. God laughs. HAH – take THAT Tebow! » Posted By choicelady On January 15, 2012 @ 3:57 pm OK – I Googled kale recipes, and everyone had a version of this, so I’m bowing to you as an expert. I’ll try it. I KNEW there was nothing good to come from a rutabaga. Yes I’d eat it if it was all I had. But nothing would EVER make me like it. Especially when it’s the size of a bowling ball and woody and bitter and disgusting. But apparently horses and cattle LOVE it – so it has its place in the food web. Just not MY place. Thanks for the great advice! » Posted By choicelady On January 15, 2012 @ 10:02 amComments Posted By choicelady
