The dispensaries that are doing what the law permitted are not being closed by the feds or the state – they ARE being shut by cities that are over-reacting. I have first hand knowledge of the scams from the son of a friend who got a license to grow – and sells off the back of a truck to anyone. Pisses me off because it’s precisely what he promised NOT to do. But even he is not the target – it’s the people shipping TONS of the stuff out of state, connecting with the Jamaican gangs in NYC etc. who are and have been the targets. The docs who pretend to treat but charge 200% more. The increase in convictions are for trafficking NOT for dispensing. It does make a difference because this stuff lands in the hands of gangs who rope in kids who then get into the criminal underground. I support the legalization, not decriminalization, of marijuana precisely to take the criminals out. But given pot growers’ $$$ in their eyes I saw yesterday, even that makes me doubt the benefit of legalization. Some people are just scum and will, like rabid gun owners, evade every effort to regulate the market to protect especially kids. I’m pretty fed up NOT with law enforcement here but with the grifters and charlatans for whom pot is riches, not societal benefit. But I know our US Attorney well, and he is scrupulously careful to target only those who evade the dispensary standards in HUGE ways. The USA made it very clear he had NO interest in closing medical shops – and has not – but in stopping the gang related megadeals that have occurred in too many places. His very brief reference to God made it clear he is also a Domnionist Christian. We thought we could change the world for good. People honestly tried to bring equality and decency back as standard behavior. Yes – much of it was good. The paranoid style of politics today has everything to do with the lingering doubts about JFK’s then MLK, Jr. and RFK’s assassinations, the lies told endlessly about Vietnam, Watergate – all the stench of corruption and loss of any kind of real trust we could have in our government. Oddly, I DO trust government – I work with it daily – but it so depends on who is in office. And I’m terrified that the violence will resume, not even necessarily against Obama but, as with Gabby Giffords, objects of obsessive behavior. Again – from the Right. He and his adopted father are tied to me, and the FIRST time this happened, the father got a call saying it was retaliation for working with “people we don’t like.” Well – who? Me, that’s who. Today is the FOURTH time. While his father returned home from the hospital for his own medication, we learned the son was taken from the hospital by a woman who called him by name – and whom no one knows. Yes, he came home. BUT who the hell WAS she??? Where WAS he for an hour? They told the father they could “get” the son any time they wanted to. And clearly that is the case. They mug him in retaliation for his father’s help to me keeping an eye on the people prowling around my house at night. I have cameras, lights, alarms – and my one weird but highly loyal neighbor whose son now pays for the father’s help to me. I’ve told the father to stay away. The son has seizures and cannot take any more of this. I am in agony over it all. And this is America. And these are “Christians”. That’s not lightweight.
