Time Out for O/T – Vol. 18

Poor word choice there – “weighing” his options, as his once fab diet seems discarded. He’s getting back to his old size, and it ain’t pretty. He’s supposedly a Bible believing Christian – has he no notion that gluttony is a mortal sin? Who needs THAT in Blair Mansion?

Well, then, he must be pro-union, right? After all, the support saved millions of union jobs. So – how ya gonne explain THAT, Mitt baby?

I hate to say this, but that REALLY creeps me out. Too German Expressionist wasteland-ish for me. I admit it’s a good idea, but it looks like something from a post-nuclear apocalypse dystopian sci fi dream. Ick.

Clearly there is a need for interactive TV. It really should work for ONLY intelligent progressives though. Otherwise…

But I’m all for your being the first person to get it, and Michelle to be the focus of your experiment. Failing that – Sarah.

This just makes me sooooo happy because it means the GOP has corrupted itself into a major problem. If Romney has to take Rand to get Ron’s delegates, that is going to either out Rand as the Dominionist he really is or cause Romney to abandon the entire hardcore block of “values voters”.

Gonna be a long, fun summer!

Ordinary men don’t wear white dress pants. Ever. Unless they’re painters or orderlies, men don’t wear white pants at ALL. Mitt’s right up there with GHW Bush who showed up at a Texas BBQ in blue slacks with little green whales on them. Some people don’t understand a thing about being part of “the people”. Mitt just digs his hole deeper and deeper every damned day.

Because they cling to the idea that free market individualism will make them rich, and government is the problem.

Can’t fix stupid.

OMG – the Neo-Nazi shooting in AZ was where some of my family live. This is getting increasingly creepy as the white supremacists move further into our midst.

Yikes.

» Posted By choicelady On May 3, 2012 @ 7:29 am

But funny, yes?

» Posted By choicelady On May 3, 2012 @ 7:25 am

You live by the sword (or gun)…

If it weren’t so likely to be true, this conjurs up a VERY funny set of cartoon images in my mind!

The Stand Your Ground and Open Carry laws now raise new ethical and philosophical questions: Is it OK to shout “He’s got a gun” in a crowded GOP assembly?

Ahh – it sucks to have a conscience.

» Posted By choicelady On May 3, 2012 @ 7:25 am

AdLib – it’s OK to connect to Linkins on this. What he wrote is proof that even a blind pig can find an acorn once in a while. Shows you’re a principled man giving credit where credit is due. Finding something worthy in HP won’t happen again in our lifetimes, so you’re safe.

» Posted By choicelady On May 3, 2012 @ 7:20 am

Oh for crying out loud. Do these people have ANY scruples at ALL? Is nothing sacred, nothing too important that they won’t rip it off???

This makes me hurl. Despicable!

» Posted By choicelady On May 2, 2012 @ 7:53 pm

To DIE for, kes! Or if you eat enough of them to die FROM. But you’d go wit’ a smile on yur face, for truth!

Mitt is an ass who has no idea what’s good.

I’d forgive him if he was food intolerant – I can NEVER run for office. I can’t eat wheat which is everything wonderful in the ethnic food world. Sigh. But he’s just a jerk. I think he thought it would be something awful. How can you NOT know what a cannoli is?

» Posted By choicelady On May 2, 2012 @ 3:13 pm

But he already did that????

I’m confused.

» Posted By choicelady On May 1, 2012 @ 9:40 pm

My fave line with the religious right who are hugely ungrammatical is, “If you can’t master the basics of your native language, what makes you think you can master the myteries of the Bible?”

Never have gotten an answer.

Yup.The Right values unbooked ignorance and “common sense” over anything else. As Gramsci wrote, common sense is not the equivalent of GOOD sense. Common sense keeps you where you are, for good or for ill. Good sense helps you and those around you take on challenges, change wisely, and move forward with eyes wide open. To do the latter, one DOES need at least a smattering of book larnin’.

Well, now we can repeat her line with one change:

Middle class? Arianna’s just not that in to you.

She’d have been even MORE in support of Newt – pigs at the trough indeed.

» Posted By choicelady On April 30, 2012 @ 12:05 pm

Ahhhh – the race to be a Third World nation! What a GOAL!

» Posted By choicelady On April 29, 2012 @ 7:09 pm

The nuns do. The Old Boys – eh.

» Posted By choicelady On April 26, 2012 @ 7:12 pm

I’d be REALLY happy if the Bishops followed Catholic Social Teachings, too. The Vatican’s trampling on nuns makes every bit of this a lie. No one has ever been threatened with being “defrocked” or excommunicated before for FOLLOWING the teachings – just the nuns.

One Catholic leader whom I like and with whom I work but who can be a horse’s ass, still mutters about the abuses they take to their “institutional morality”. Well, when you find said morality, jump on it, because we are all otherwise laughing up our sleeves at the idea the Catholic Church actually HAS any such thing.

Answering here – I guess I’ve not seen the grocery store one. In fact, upon contemplation, it’s sort of creepy. I agree – that would raise the question “is it me or cupboard love?” LOL!!!

But I think the image of two older and yet very attractive people still in love and still sexy is VERY cool!

» Posted By choicelady On April 25, 2012 @ 8:15 pm

He has all the grace of GHW Bush – “Whine on harvest moon” and “my, my what IS that?” regarding a checkout scanner he’d never seen before since he has his “people” shop for him. Coming to Texas BBQs wearing blue pants with little green whales on ’em.

No capacity to relate to ordinary people? That’s the GOP.

» Posted By choicelady On April 25, 2012 @ 7:28 pm

Freaking asshats – the former pres chewed with his mouth open, slouched in his chair, improperly touched German Chancellor Merkel, and basically made an ass out of himself, and they say Obama is “inappropriate”??? I’m surprised W didn’t scratch himself in public. Obama is classy AND down to earth, and it’s what makes him so very cool.

» Posted By choicelady On April 25, 2012 @ 7:26 pm

Oh I’m not knocking it – it’s made a whole lot of Boomer marriages and relationship MUCH nicer, but I’d just never put it in the “upper” category. You are so right, Sally – up, up and away!

And I LOVE the Cialis ads – very sexy older people!!! We Boomers never say die!

» Posted By choicelady On April 25, 2012 @ 7:23 pm

Huh. Never thought about it, but I guess Viagra is an “upper” isn’t it?

In his book, “Perfectly Legal” David Cay Johnston noted that the media individual wage in America – after lopping off the billionaires – was $35 a year LESS in 2003 than it had been in 1973. That is in absolute dollars, NOT an issue of inflation.

The people who worry about “spreading the wealth” did their damndest to scrape if off the backs of those who were employed by them. In capitalism, if you increase profits there is a presumption that some of that should go to those who created that wealth. By refusing to pay decently even as corporate profits soared, by putting all of that increase in their own pockets, the rich showed they no longer believe in capitalism but have reverted to medieval princedoms. Saying that there is a ‘market price’ in labor based on the communities where production is done or services given is ridiculous when there is no set market price for anything else. If your firm is growing, it is because of employees, period. You cannot sell anything that your employees have not made. So if profits are rising, the SHARE of that profit that has customarily been going to labor should at least remain steady with the dollar value increasing for employees. Instead the share has plummeted, the wages have remained at best static.

THAT is the foolishness of faux capitalism since the other side of the coin is that employees are ALSO the backbone of consumption. Without a rise in wages to match the rise in profits, there is debt, lagging consumption, crisis, and collapse. 2008 was almost identical to 1929 in over production and under consumption both brought on by a fierce refusal of capital to pay wages that correlated with the output and profit work created.

The refusal to share the wealth in either wages (which would make tax supported social safetynet programs vastly less necessary) or support programs is the last refuge of Robber Barons. Whatever one thinks of “social welfare” or unions, smart business people have to know that the Gilded Age was THE most unstable time in this nation’s history outside of the Civil War. You cannot oppress people and expect them to lie down and die. So unless we can make the kinds of gradual repairs to a fractured system that creates instability in our whole society, we had best prepare ourselves for REAL political upheaval. Romney and his Tea Bagger ilk have no clue what danger they are to THEMSELVES.

You’re just trying to get his goat, bito. Keep up the good work! This is very funny – and jabs the hypocrite RIGHT where he lives!

» Posted By choicelady On April 24, 2012 @ 8:39 pm

bito – I agree! We need scorecards! An index! A map book! Something that will help us sort out the extremists. It’s giving me a persistent headache trying to keep them and their sniffy superiority issues straight.

Worse, IMHO, is that since the “I Found It” campaign of the Campus Crusade (aka Christian Embassy, The Family, etc.) now anything goes. Used to be that once you were “saved” you were called upon to live a righteous life. OK too many were SELF righteous, but the point is it had some demands made upon you. Not anymore – you can be slutty, wanton, greedy – in fact you can violate ALL the 10 commandments and 7 deadly sins and so what? Once you were “born again” (the new term – “saved” is passe) it did not matter WHAT you did. You had carte blanche. Rape, pillaging, child molestation, theft, corruption, adultery – none of it counts. Even homosexual experiences – eh. From Jimmy Swaggert to Ensign to Ted Haggard – nothing matters. Sure, you have to “repent” – but that’s unlimited so have at it – nobody will stop you.

The real evil is compassion for others who are NOT saved/born again. The evil is not being homosexual or using drugs or having an abortion(s)even AFTER being born again. Nope the evil is saying God loves you no matter what, that none of that is evil at all intrinsically and that you can be, do, think whatever you are moved to be, do, think, etc. That your sexual orientation is how you were born. That you are equal no matter what. That even NON belief is irrelevant to your intrinsic worth as a human being.

THAT is the unforgiveable RW Dominionist-decreed sin: having compassion and advocacy for equality for anyone including every single person who is not born again.

I commit it daily.

Wow. Girlfriend – watch your back! You are treading on major toes here! You and Leah suddenly lept into MRFF land taking on the very big cheeses. Glad you’re not “you” on her blog! Great expose, and one very essential one, too!

» Posted By choicelady On April 22, 2012 @ 8:14 am

Yup. I have no idea if this happens in other religions. It certainly happens in the absence of same when people declare they are “good at heart” while blasting others to smithereens.

The factor that bothers me is not what occurs in any given person but they way some morph their supposed conversion into a way to dominate and control others. Remember Sister Claire Prophet who convinced yuppies to give her all their money and join her building underground bunkers and tunnels to wait out the arrival of giant robots from outerspace? Anyone whose “faith” is a recycled Rocky and Bullwinkle episode (The Six Foot Metal Munching Moon Mice) ought to attract NO one to their cause, but they can and do.

I probably ought to be sad Colson is dead – “every man’s death diminishes me” – but I’m not, and I’m not diminished by his passing from this earth to wherever he has gone. Nowhere, I’m thinking. Surprise! Yeah – Jesus is only the trump card, not the guide to being a contributing member of society. What a lout that man was.
