Time Out for O/T – Vol. 18

I think the energy that Cher and others found in LA and some other cities was not uniform. Oakland was wonderful in parts and horrific in others. The lack of focus in some cities was exactly the opposite in others. Cher was right about the energy – but it was LA specific I think. A dear friend LOVED the Oakland experience until it turned ugly. And I can’t speak for the rest.

I am an old street fighter who has turned policy wonk. Why? Because I remember how fragile our “success” was when one lousy piece of legislation could undermine everything we did. It’s not an either -or dichotomy, and it is where OWS fell down claiming it is.

When Michael Moore clebrated “the people” speaking out and NOT “policy wonks” he really screwed up the point – the “people” were white privilged kids. No they were’t policy wonks. They weren’t “the people” he meant either.

I think I’ve worn out my welcome saying policy is important because if it wasn’t, we’d STILL be marching over the Edmund Pettus Bridge and we’d STILL be hauling our butts out of Vietnam. Rev.Dr. MLK, Jr. knew that the movement HAS to culminate in legal transformation and Constitutional affirmation in legislation or it is a failure. If HE knew that – why can’t we remember it?

Oh so cool, KQ!!! VERY good analogy!

The prevailing meme among idiotically ignorant lefties is that if the President appointed two men familiar with the Fed and Wall Street, that’s selling out. That all but Bernake serve at the president’s pleasure meaning they take policy direction FROM him simply eludes these witless protesters. The changes we have already made but are having tough times implementing due to the GOP, are exactly what they want. The Volker Rule dividing investment funds from deposits IS the Glass-Steagall Act, but because it’s not CALLED G-S, the fools insist nothing has been done. They demand the act be returned with THAT NAME. They honestly fail to understand it was named for two people who are long DEAD, it was repealed under their hero, Clinton and without a squeak of protest by them, and now they cannot accept the conditions unless it is called the same thing as the 1930s act.

That is how dumb they are. They are starting to rival Baggers for the honor of the title: too stupid to live.

Bah!

Just for interest, this morning (9-2) the NY Times section, “Sunday Review” p. 11 has a photo of clinic defense taken in 1992 during the “Spring of Lies” (our name for their Hitlerians “Spring of Life” effort.) siege of Buffalo, NY by Operation Rescue.

I am not in the photo – would have been just off to the left – but I knew or met most of the people in this picture. That was over 20 years ago, we’re still fighting those fights, and we still have use for those signs: Keep Abortion Legal. I am in sympathy the woman holding the small sign: The Lord is Pro Choice. Too bad that view gets so little notice when EVERY mainline Protestant denomination respects women’s right to choose what is best for her moral vision for her life.

Are you SERIOUS?????? Crosses? Oh hell.

I’m not watching it either. My husband and I watched a program on Animal Planet about the critters of the South Pacific – fascinating. They don’t even eat their young like the GOP either. Much more interesting than what Twitter then said Christie is doing ” Memememememememe and more about mememememe” which, frankly is even LESS interesting than “NounVerb9/11 Giuliani”.

I agree with you Murph. If, God forbid, they win and destroy us – and they will – they will blame it on anyone in their face who is not white, Dominionist Christian, and rich.

And the only women who will survive will be St. Ayn, Ann (Romney), and Ann (coulter).

Enough – I am looking at homes in Canada.

It’s just GREAT, bito. Who knew Tweetie would rise up like that?

Four years ago I saw him take on the Right to Life folks and smack them into the ground – he was amazing and wonderful. This is right in that mould – bravo for him.

» Posted By choicelady On August 27, 2012 @ 8:52 pm

Personally I want him to name all his grandmothers. But that’s just me…

» Posted By choicelady On August 25, 2012 @ 11:00 am

Oh wow – yes indeed, Happy Birthday, KQ! And many, many more!

» Posted By choicelady On August 25, 2012 @ 10:58 am

Oh girlfriend – did NOT realize it was all closing in on you so fast! Yikes!

Good luck – moving is second to only death in terms of stress I hear, so don’t look to be moving into “No 1 Position” anytime soon! Easy does it! Whatever doesn’t get done today WILL get done when it gets done. So long as at least one bathroom and the fridge work, life can go on.

Hugs and best wishes and hopes for a wonderful time in the new digs which are GORGEOUS.

Southern Poverty Law Center has been watching him since 2000 – that would indicate he’s not a loner.

IF Pat is trying to distance himself from Page, good luck. White Supremacists are always some kind of Christian – Christian Identity, World Church of the Creator, Eloim City folks, something. The only ones who are not are the Metzgers, and they’ve rather fallen out of favor with the others because of that.

What is pretty obvious is that after Brevik (a Dominionist) the extremist Christians have raised holy hell (so to speak) with the media to prevent that label being ACCURATELY applied to shooters. SPLC noted that Loughner had visited web sites that linked him and his views. Don’t yet know about Holmes. ALL of the murderers of abortion providers and pro choice people are self avowed Dominionists, and in those cases their actions are labeled as ‘justified’.

What you’re watching is an amazing PR spin from a man who any other day of the week would call Sihks “devils”. Makes me wonder just how well Pat baby knew this recent assassin – kinda quick to denounce HIM since nothing yet has emerged about his RELIGIOUS supremacy issues. And Pat’s all for offing Muslims, so…

In light of our outrageously limitless tolerance of “free speech”, this would never fly in the US. I find it odd that limits on free speech are seen as models for liberalism. Oh that it were true.

I think the struggle to define free speech within limits is too hard – my idea of a lie is someone else’s idea of revelation. To wit – saying Obama’s birth certificate is fake is Orly’s idea of an expose and my idea of a lie.

Canada and the UK have limits, and it would be interesting to see who, if anyone, has been harmed by those limits. I damned well know who’s been harmed by having NO limits! But it’s a conundrum in our society, that’s for sure.

Oh that’s GREAT, kes!!!

Yes – the REAL Mars excursion will bring us so much great information. A good, happy thing. Just wish Sally Ride had lived to see it – she’d have been delighted!

» Posted By choicelady On August 6, 2012 @ 12:37 pm

Sigh. Michelle and company are probably high fiving one another over such acts. It’s not even a matter of NOT taking responsibility – they are they types to be overtly pleased about this.

» Posted By choicelady On August 6, 2012 @ 12:34 pm

Yikes – I’m addicted! No wonder I’m weird! I have no impulse to do harm, but I do seem to like cows a lot.

» Posted By choicelady On August 6, 2012 @ 12:32 pm

Robertson is speaking of the Sikh community, NOT of Page. Robertson has made very clear over the years that anyone NOT of his Dominionist ilk is a pagan, Satanic, or atheist. He thinks the Sikhs deserve to be killed. Pat would just think it was too bad that the man who did it is probably a “good Christian” who died for his beliefs.

NEVER underestimate Robertson’s capacity to be evil.

BTW – the Celtic knot is not a religious sign but a white power/supremacy sign.

Southern Poverty Law Center reports they have been watching Wade Michael Page since 2000 after he got kicked out of the military. He’s the founder of a neo-Nazi music group and web site. Not mentally ill (though I don’t think Loughner or Holmes are either), not a ‘lone wolf’ but part of the growing menace of supremacists and anti-government extremists. Deeply scary because I think this is the beginning, not the end.

Well, if the uniforms hadn’t been MADE in China…

At what point does sanity enter the picture? What Olympic athlete at ANY time has paid attention to patriotism vs. doing their level best to uphold our honor as a nation? Athletics by definition requires total concentration. Was Gabby supposed to do her floor performance twirling flags? What? The sheer lunacy of this whine from FOX makes me fear for this country’s ability to focus on anything significant at all.

It’s FOX that lacks patriotism by not supporting our athletes.

Wellllll – Bush’s lies were NEVER harmless since they involved torture, Constitutional violations, etc. But it does make a solid case for the GOP “moral values” being entirely based on situational ethics.

If Romney is “retroactively” retiring, declaring residence, etc. can he retroactively become a non=candidate. That would be my fervent wish.

BTW – where did he VOTE, and if he voted where he did not live – he committed VOTER FRAUD based once again out of the GOP.

» Posted By choicelady On August 2, 2012 @ 9:35 am

Yikes. Kes – that is a powerful story about our society’s failure to help kids thrive as competent people. Yes, RW short-sighted people, pay attention to kes’ warning: the next botched hot dog order could BE YOURS!!! Ignorance creates long lines and world hunger from non-delivery of your ordered food. Just think about THAT when you cut Head Start funding and education financing.

Thank you for this insightful tale, kes. It’s seriously alarming to know our youth are that incompetent. As a long-time kid helper at school and civic events when I was young, I could count change and provide service by the time I was 10. It’s pretty bad when these kids cannot do the most basic arithmetic. My mother taught grades 5 and 6 for years, and she retired after 20 years due to being fed up with cranky parents who could not accept that their little darlings actually needed to learn something and not rely on calculators and other devices to get through life. Clearly they won – and yes, they were relatively affluent white people. We now have a whole generation of ignorant folks out there. These are the up and coming ones you’ve encountered. Wow.

Hard to have faith in the nation anymore.

It’s why he has to “retroactively retire” so he can distance himself from his actions.

It’s the logical extension of the Religious Rights’ “Renewable Virginity” issue for its promotion of abstinence-only dating. “True Love Waits” is the program and the theme. But – just in case you screwed it up (so to speak), there now are do-overs where you get – tah dah! – a Second Virginity.

So if you can do that, what’s wrong with a little retroactive retirement that gets you off the hook, out of the heat, away from the consequences of your own actions? So what if you were in control? You can now put distance between your paid work and your fantasy life by asserting you really WEREN’T THERE no matter what you filed with the SEC. YOU didn’t know what was going on. Renewable ignorance.

“You People” will just have to learn to look at these things correctly. Personal responsibility like taxes are for the little people. It’s not for the likes of latter day renewable virgins or cold hearted responsibility-dodging CEOs.

Hey – at least she did not smugly say that poverty level emergency conditions under Katrina are working well for “those people” or that she and Mitt have ALWAYS gotten along with The Blacks.

You have to honor “progress” when you see it in the GOP.

I, for one, am still looking…

» Posted By choicelady On July 19, 2012 @ 1:16 pm

Oh kes – she has been my best friend until now. But I’ve watched her refuse to help herself at all – waiting for Godot. The boys said, after dropping out, they were “too good” to work for $8 per hour at a job. I don’t know what will happen to them. One succumbed to temptation big time and is about to end his time as a “guest of the state” – where he got in two community college courses despite the fact the prison system DOES NOT DO THAT, so he got some privilege. And his mother is INCENSED because for the past three years, all he’s had is instant coffee and she thinks that means he’s been denied basic rights and rehabilitation. I AM NOT MAKING THIS UP!

I can’t even go there when he gets out. A felon who admires Meg Whitman???? Get out of my face. This is NOT going to end well. I am not happy about any of this, and I don’t want to ruin his homecoming. But…where the HELL did they all get this sense of entitlement when they are all people who threw away every opportunity (hard work WAS involved) and rejected the entire system. They are now all professional victims. And you know how far that gets you…

Sigh. I don’t understand. I just don’t. And BTW – they are all white, too.

kes – you might be describing a friend and her two adult sons. She was raised in upper middle class standards by good parents who supported her always. She knows that – and never learned to work for what she had. She always found a guy to take care of her even though both her husbands used drugs and wound up being utterly unreliable. She has never lived alone, ever. She told me once she’d never had to look for a job – they always fell in her lap. I never thought to ask “so what?” and whether this meant she did not know how to look – or shouldn’t have to. She did get a BA in her early 30s, but she never really used it and refused to go on for an advanced degree. She worked off and on but lost her job about 5 years ago and is living on early Social Security and welfare. She hates welfare recipients however…

Her two, now adult, sons dropped out of high school. Neither has worked at anything thinking they’re “too good” for minimum wage jobs, but they have NO training or talents at all. The older one was interested in Meg Whitman, and both of them tend to be conservative despite their unemployment, grifting, and general uselessness. When they work they work off the books, so they pay no taxes but bitch about tax gouging. My friend sells stuff including excellent wall hangings she does – pays no taxes on any of that either.

The sense of victimization they give off is incredible. They have contributed almost nothing to society but bitch about it endlessly. Unfortunately they DO vote. My friend at least like Obama but her sons don’t because…they don’t know why. I suspect race, but they won’t own up to it.

I’ve pretty much had it with the nation of entitlement. The slackers, grifters, slugs – people given opportunities who wasted every single one of them and will continue to do so, and then blame government, Obama in particular, and admire the filthy rich because having bright, shiny objects are their entire life goal. They accept NO responsibility for their own failures and somehow think that corporate America is good, government is bad – even as they’re living off the latter however they can.

I have ceased seeing them because while I’m NOT opposed to people making out however they can in this economic climate, I am DEFINITELY not up for hearing them blame others, criticize others, and descend into bigotry and bias against people who ARE doing the work of adults in adulthood. Survive how you can, yes. Sneer at others for doing the same? Ridiculous.

We are a nation of stupid people, and that may not be an accident. Best way to control them is to keep them stupid. It’s working.

Oh that’s TOOOO wonderful!

Someone tweeted today that since they’ve found the God particle, the collider is now available for weddings and bar mitzvahs. Hope it’s interfaith and open to all!

Ummmm – I rather thought it was Congress acting at the behest of their constituents (people) who “forced this law on us.” So what he’s saying is that the will of the majority must be overturned when the minority get their knickers in a wad?

Seems to resonate. Oh, yeah. Supermajorities required for anything substantive. And we can see how well THAT is working out for California.

» Posted By choicelady On July 2, 2012 @ 11:10 am

food – I’d agree with you, except it has been scientifically proven the GOP have no sense of humor unless it involves degrading college women or sneering at people of color, and then the definition of “humor” is entirely their own.

I would like to poll (scientifically, of course) our readers here – have you ever seen a Republican laugh? I mean REALLY laugh, out loud, and NOT at someone’s expense?

All poll results will be verified and posted sometime soon if I don’t forget.

No, no bito – he said “a chicken in every POX.” He’s eliminating childhood immunizations to save money. That health thingy for kids is really over-rated. Gotta toughen ’em up for the 12-hour work day they face as adults.

» Posted By choicelady On July 1, 2012 @ 9:13 pm

Oh no – he’s staying true to core conservative values! Gouge as much money out of taxpayers as you can, eliminate all concern for human rights, and cover up what you’re doing under the guise of “concern”.

Yup – Christie. He’s the heart of deep and abiding rightwing policy!

There were more killed under Bush’s first three years than this term. I’m not at all sure what it proves, but Obama is hardly being negligent about Border Officer safety.
